We are in the studio with John and this time it's a simple, easy set up. We are using one light and a single modifier in the beauty dish. In this video you will get to learn how to use various diffusers on the front of the dish and how that changes the effect of the portrait. Again we are using a male model to photograph, quashing all things beauty and soft about the named beauty dish. The other thing to note is the distance factor. The distance between the light and the model/background etc. The size and distance of light to camera and positioning it so that you are guaranteed catchlights in the eyes. All settings and results are up on the screen for you to see and a run down of everything used is also put up on screen.

Superb mate! Concise, on point and effective. Thanks for sharing 😎😎😎
Bloody fantastic video, nightly educational! Well done!
Aww thanks, I'm getting better at them 👌
This is good, love that you show Raw images and good to see 1 light modified in different ways and the different looks you get. Going to try these Thanks
I think a lot of the time less is more. I'm always looking at cheaper alternatives and if I can get it with one light all the better. 🙏🏻
Ian, you're doing great again! You excel at explaining simply and you clearly show the differences. This is very inspiring. Thank you
Hi Bert, hopefully I'm getting better. I enjoy it so if people find it useful I'm more than happy. Thanks for taking time to comment.
Ian, It's like driving a car. The more you drive, the better it goes. The more you shoot, the better you get. Just take a look at your 1st CZcams video and compare it to this one. Man, you've really made progress
@Bert Stappenbeld thank you mate much appreciated 🙏🏻
Absolutely love these videos, super educational. Also, for me, I love simple set-ups so this is super inspirational, thank you 🙂
Thanks, I only do simple hahaha. I think sometimes people over complicate it just to make out that they are some sort of lighting guru 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Mr. Munro,
I hope you're doing well. I really enjoy your educational videos. You have a great way of teaching. Thank you.
Kind Regards,

Hey Bern, 👋 thanks for dropping by. I hope you're doing well. I appreciate your kind comment and I continue to learn through mistakes and try and be better, it's part of the journey right? Im over the moon that you find some of my stuff interesting. 🙏🏻
thanks ian...another inspiration video for me.
Aww thanks, hopefully I'm getting better at making them.
Good one Ian. You are a good teacher - Funny thing is. I bought a dish yesterday - with a grid and sock - But now I don't have to test it. You just did 😂 Thanks 🙏
Cheers Phil, I love a beauty dish especially with grids etc.
Very interesting! I don’t have a beauty dish but I do have the Westcott Octabox with the beauty dish insert. I will have to give this a try.
Actually Steve that would be fine. Cheers 🍻
Enjoying your lighting set-up video's Ian. I am in the middle of setting up my 4mt x 6mt home studio and was interested in the type of grey background you opted for? Cheers Neil...
Hi Neil, the Backdrops I use are ideal. They make the pictures to be honest and they are from handpaintedbackdrops.co.uk/
This one is a charcoal sort of colour.
Megga .....
Cheers 🍻 👏
