- During these times of quarantine, MagMod has started a weekly photo challenge to encourage everyone to stay active and busy. This week's challenge was to create a self-portrait using Rembrandt Lighting. In this video, I walk through three different looks all using a Rembrandt light setup. As someone who is putting a lot more effort recently into creating content like this, I have 100% earned an enormous amount of respect for those who are pumping out amazing content each week. Putting these videos together can be exhausting....but nevertheless, I am enjoying the experience and will certainly push more and more to up the quality and production value of each video I create....in the meantime, please bare with me.
So despite the issues that I ran into with audio or the sporadic focus hunting while filming (my wife is not a professional cinematographer so we gotta cut her some slack!), I still hope you will be able to learn something from these videos.
If you have any questions or if you have any suggestions on future videos, please feel free to leave a comment for me down below. And if you are interested in joining the MagMod Community over on Facebook, here is the link to do so: / magnetmod

Have you tried taking self portraits with a Sony? My experience is that it is hard to get focus. You can't use autofocus, so the only way to do it is mark where you stand and focus on your tripod from where you are standing. This doesn't work well with nailing eye focus though. Any tips? Am I missing something? Amazing pictures btw.
I haven't used a Sony, but I have the same issues with my Nikon, even if I use a stand in (flower on a light stand or a styrofoam head would work) to lock in the focus where I'm going to be. So, what I've found the most helpful is to tether my camera to my computer. You get a much bigger screen and you can move the single focus point to your eye via your camera, and nail the focus after 1-3 shots. I have fallen in love with tethering. Most cameras come with a tether cable (only about 1 ft) but you can get a 15 ft one from tether tools for about $35. Hope this helps.
I’m just finding out about this style of lighting, been looking for a name for this style for the longest time. If I don’t have a light, can I just use my iPads screen or a flash light? 😅
Any light source placed in the right position could replicate this style of light if done properly...but I would certainly recommend using a modifier with some diffusion for a nice soft light.
Where did you get the short rod that is on the flashpoint 200?
I believe you are talking about the Baby Pin... www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/33203-REG/Matthews_429599_6_Pin_with_Collar.html
Waaaaaay too much talking. Yes, you straddle-stand so you look shorter, we get it. Move on.
You're awesome!
