    One of the best tutorials I’ve watched. I’m lucky and have worked very hard to have most of the gear mentioned in your video. The one light approach is what I prefer, but natural light, e.g. a window, is another preference. Thanks for producing this video.

    Great tutorial. Just wondering what advantage a 90mm macro has over say an 85mm 1.8 if shot at 2.8. The need for a 'macro' is what I'm curious about. Thx

    • @shifteleven
      @shifteleven Pƙed 4 lety

      Probably none here. Use what you have. Maybe he doesn't have an 85 - hence the 90.
      Edit: I watched more. Using the macro allows him to get in tight with the second shot. The 85 might be able to do it...but it depends on the particular 85 and it's minimum focus distance. With a macro, you don't need to worry about a min focus distance for portraits.

    • @jjaylad
      @jjaylad Pƙed 4 lety +1

      @@shifteleven Thanks. I use a full frame 85 1.8 on a crop sensor, so easy to get close ups ...from a slight distance.

    • @JaredRibic
      @JaredRibic Pƙed 4 lety

      I'm also wondering if he's shooting a medium format body or a full-frame 35mm equivalent.
      That will make a difference on what angle of view the 90mm lens will show.
      The only thing that I didn't understand is why the hand was cut off on the first model, probably planning to crop further in post.

    No need for old school lighting ratio more light a "little less" so eye ball guestimation will work. Please just add a light meter meter the main meter fill and see exactly how much fill it yield what shape come of it when you move your V Flat in and out. Ratio 3:1 no guessing. Clone out the dividing seams line on his black V Flat

Get yourself a good piece of glass for whatever camera your using. 50mm is a great start for portraits. Dive deep into increasing your editing skills. Study LR and photoshop like a madman.
