  • As professional athletes coming into any professional sports, you don't get to determine where you will play for the first years of your career. You don't get to pick your coach, teammates, GM or fans like you do in college. Sometimes it works out for you and sometimes it doesn't. Here's an athlete it didn't workout for as of now. Here's 3 reasons why I think their growth was abruptly stunted. Who knows, maybe they'll return to form. I sure hope so. Thank you for watching. When I ran in Shawn Marion, many moons ago.....We discussed Spree.
Since Shawn came to Chicago, I asked, "Hey man...where you going ?". He responded Milwaukee. I was like, "Isn't Spree over there". Then I forgot what happened with the rest of our chat. Observation though - Marion was 1 of thee most classiest individuals I've ever met; who's "known". I wish a little of his personality rubbed off on Starbury and Spree (sigh)

me-Latrell Sprewell is the greatest athlete ever. I was really 5'8 and 6'2. 3'9 inches feet tall first started as a 6 year old from Saginaw, michgan

As a hometown Golden State Warriors fan Sprewell was my Michael Jordan
I honestly thought he was even going to be maybe even better than Jordan his athleticism was matched and he had a Great layup package and amazing mid range game and his three-point shot was better than Jordan
He was so fierce and competitive and a defensive stopper
Even when Mitch Richmond left the Warriors I was upset for breaking up TMC but when I saw how great Sprewell was I knew we were in business and it was the only team I used on live 95 except the Seattle Supersonics. Then he choked PJ I couldn’t believe it and I was upset that the Warriors were out of luck again

Great video and commentary. Sprewell is my favorite 2 behind MJ but you gave some of the best analysis on him, definitely rational and without bias. You asked good questions towards the end in regards to that Allan Houston contract. The NBA locked out over the KG deal....that was nothing lol

    Latrell was a Knicks GOD.
I’m a firm believer that the contract H20 got should’ve been split between him and Spree. Spree did something stupid with the injury ordeal, but the Knicks made an even bigger one shipping him to Minnesota and putting all our chips in Houston’s basket.
As tremendous as Houston was, once he got that contract, he started taking WAY too many shot attempts and his defense was always subpar.
Re-signing Houston and trading Spree was the beginning (The Ewing trade for Glen Rice and 49 scrubs who never played for us is the real beginning, yet I digress) of a LONG, DARK road we are still traveling down, even today. Those moves were exacerbated by the signing Dice (could’ve drafted Amare) and drafting of Sweetney.
Penny Hardaway, Van Horn, Tim Thomas, Mutombo, Steve Francis, Jalen Rose, Malik Rose, Jerome James, Etc. All of these blunderous, bloated, acquisitions started when we lost Spree. The culture changed.
I honestly believe had the Knicks kept Spree, kept Houston, drafted Amare, acquired Marbury, and Mutombo we would’ve been a MUCH better team. A Marbury/Houston/Sprewell/Stoudemire/Mutombo starting 5 could easily win 50 games in the East back then.
Spree got a bad wrap. He, Patrick Ewing, and Larry Johnson are my all time favorite Knicks.
Spree fit the NY culture. It’s Dolan that doesn’t fit the culture. So many awful executives hired by him ruined us the last 20 years.
I think our current team is the worst it’s ever been, but at least they’re young, have upside, and we have cap space. Maybe things will FINALLY change for the better in NY
