i think the same! i feel like dorothea and the guy must have been close since they were kids, but dorothea to pursue her career left town without telling him or something on christmas eve or christmas morning, and she left without telling not because the guy was unsupportive of her following her dream but because the deal she had struck, wutever record or something, it was not what she really liked, like it might be a cringey pop record deal where she didnt write her own songs, while her main thing was writing songs or something like that. so when the offer for the deal came the guy sensed that this was not the path truly meant for her and she deserved much more so she should not sign up for the deal, and disapproved of it. while she wanted to cus idk maybe she felt it was her only chance(low self confidence and stuff), and she was considering not signing up for the record and they were getting romantic feelings involved, but then *something* happened between the girl and the guy and she got heartbroken and scared and she left on christmas morning without telling him to go pursue her career, but then he gos to her house to apologise on christmas morn and finds out shes at the airport and he goes after her to bring her back before she potentially ruins her career and signs up for something that isnt her true passion or whatever but shes already pretty much checking in so all he can do is stand there helpless and watch her leave... and theeennnn its the future nd some big scandal has happened in her career since shes a celebrity and all, so she has come back to her town as a slight break from the media and all to lie low in her hometown and then all the stuff u said happens.

I think Champagne problems is the first song, when she left her boyfriend to pursue her dreams and he wanted to marry her. Dorothea is maybe his point of view when he saw her on Television, and this is the third song when she came back home for holidays after couple years.

Champagne Problems is the first part of the story, she left him to pursue the dreams she thought were grander than what she left behind, and she believes he'll find someone whom he will be happy with since she's gone. Then Tis The Damn Season is her coming home to visit family, and seeing all that she left behind, specifically him, whom she realizes, she still has a flame somewhere deep down for, and she's asking him to be willing to let things just be as they used to be, but just for the weekend as she plans on returning to her new life, which she knows is full of fake friends and a nonstop chase for the next big thing, and she admits, it's her own heart she's breaking by her unwillingness to stay where she knows she could be truly safe, comfortable, understood, loved, etc.

I think the girl who sings illicit affairs is the one sing this one. There is a line from the poem "road not taken" in each one and yes the perfume thing. I am thinking its August because in illicit affairs she was acting as a mistress to a guy who was cheating on his gf. So this must be in August's perspective. "It always leads to my hometown and you" also says about who much she misses this guy and how much she regrets it.

The thing I absolutely and very easily adore the most about these two albums "Folklore" and "Evermore" is how both of them did a fantabulous job at giving us a stage to flourish our hidden nerd self. I mean have you guys seen the comment sections and everything? Everyone's dissecting the lyrics, drawing up diverse interpretations, talking ardently about the very raw emotions both the albums have to offer, crushing over the exquisite, pristine prose, diction and appreciating the literary aspect of it overall. It's just so refreshing and wholesome. So glad that something like "Folklore" and "Evermore" exist. As you'd often time find yourself saying to your best buddy- "I don't know what I'd do without you guys. Thanks for simply just existing".

I get this so much! I write out my stories on paper, with black pen for male perspective and blue for female. I reuse backs of sheets of cheap A4 that I discard as not right but my journal is made of wooden art covers, images of flowers and bees burned into them that a very close friend made me for Christmas a couple of years ago. Nothing but a fountain pen with archivists ink touches those pages until year end, when I doodle with gel pens to add something that just makes it more bright and colourful than reams of black cursive. My pencil case is a 420 piece artist’s one with each pen in a designated place. If husband touches it looking for a pen I always know. Always.

I think Champagne problems is the first song, when she left her boyfriend to pursue her dreams and he wanted to marry her. Dorothea is maybe his point of view when he saw her on Television, and this is the third song when she came back home for holidays after couple years.

Champagne Problems is the first part of the story, she left him to pursue the dreams she thought were grander than what she left behind, and she believes he'll find someone whom he will be happy with since she's gone. Dorothea is him saying he'll always know who she really is and wondering if she ever thinks about all the things she left behind, specifically about him. Then Tis The Damn Season is her coming home to visit family, and seeing all that she left behind, specifically him, whom she realizes, she still has a flame somewhere deep down for, and she's asking him to be willing to let things just be as they used to be, but just for the weekend as she plans on returning to her new life, which she knows is full of fake friends and a nonstop chase for the next big thing, and she admits, it's her own heart she's breaking by her unwillingness to stay where she knows she could be truly safe, comfortable, understood, loved, etc.
This one seems like it’s Dorothea’s vision, while “Dorothea” is the guy’s vision, telling her to pursue her dreams, but how much he misses her

I think the girl who sings illicit affairs is the one sing this one. There is a line from the poem "road not taken" in each one and yes the perfume thing. I am thinking its August because in illicit affairs she was acting as a mistress to a guy who was cheating on his gf. So this must be in August's perspective. The thing I absolutely and very easily adore the most about these two albums "Folklore" and "Evermore" is how both of them did a fantabulous job at giving us a stage to flourish our hidden nerd self. I mean have you guys seen the comment sections and everything? Everyone's dissecting the lyrics, drawing up diverse interpretations, talking ardently about the very raw emotions both the albums have to offer, crushing over the exquisite, pristine prose, diction and appreciating the literary aspect of it overall. It's just so refreshing and wholesome. So glad that something like "Folklore" and "Evermore" exist. As you'd often time find yourself saying to your best buddy- "I don't know what I'd do without you guys. Thanks for simply just existing".

I get this so much! I write out my stories on paper, with black pen for male perspective and blue for female. I reuse backs of sheets of cheap A4 that I discard as not right but my journal is made of wooden art covers, images of flowers and bees burned into them that a very close friend made me for Christmas a couple of years ago. Nothing but a fountain pen with archivists ink touches those pages until year end, when I doodle with gel pens to add something that just makes it more bright and colourful than reams of black cursive. My pencil case is a 420 piece artist’s one with each pen in a designated place. If husband touches it looking for a pen I always know. Always.

I think that she thinks of him when she comes back to a world that she left for a reason - she's an artist and a performer, and something about the hometown was chafing her. Yea, when you go home you wish you had someone, but in this song it's clear that she couldn't settle down...

The boy made her choose between him or her career, she chose her career because she thinks its for their future. She misses him so much and wants him back but her work wont allow it. When she decided that he wants him back its too late for it. He moved on.
