This is a short video on how to remove a stuck rear drum on my 2013 Honda Foreman 500. For the full length video check out below: • How to change rear bra...
I've been starring at this cussed thing contemplating pushing it off in the lake. I rebuilt the engine, bored .75 over, new timing chain push rods and head ported and polished. Will run like a raped ape, takes an uncomfortable amount of time to stop it. Previous owner sank it and left it. These brakes are driving me nuts. So glad to see this video. I'll be doing this tomorrow.
YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE RING OUT OF THE DRUM AND CLEAN OUT GROOVE , THAT IS WHY YA HAD A HARD TIME GETTING DRUM ON AND OFF , THE RING WAS RUST JACKED AND YER CLEARANCE WAS AFFECTED ,IT WILL GO ON AND OFF EASY IF THAT IS DONE , SORRY FOR CAPS DIDN'T NOTICE TILL NOW AND NOT RE TYPING LOL
@@thecitiots well it didnt work for me for in my situation it was seized up on the axle shaft so i pulled the whole thing out like you did with the axle shaft put it on a vice and beat the living life out of it till the shaft started moving out.
Tried this on a 2007 foreman 500 Wrecked the shaft - everything was seized inside and the design didn’t allow the brake shoes to come out with the drum and shaft - ended up hammering down at a 45 degree angle on the outside of the drum - dented the drum and it took a while but the drum came off - the outside of the drum was dented but doesn’t appear to be damaged
I would check out the full length video in the description. But If yours is rusted hit it with a wire brush then wiggle it off with a needle nose. Lubrication is always a good idea 👍
These can be a curse. A friend left me a 2006 Foreman 500 for an axle and hubs (zero splines left) and the axle splines had kind of twisted and hammered into the drum. Only option I had was to break the drum off in pieces
@@thecitiots No inside the drum was excellent, and inside the axle tube was like new. They decided to switch to 4wd because there were no splines left in the rear hubs. It's hard to describe but the axle splines had gotten damaged a few mm at the point where they exit the drum. Sort of as if the axle had twisted at that point. Tried pressing, hammering, heating but only discovered the twisted splines after breaking the drum off
@@TheBlaert I've seen splines destroyed from water in the axel tube. That's awful new parts were recked, were you able to get the machine back on the trail?
@@thecitiots Yeah it's sorted now. New axle and 2 hubs. Full set of bearings. This machine in its lifetime has been sunk in a bog, barrel rolled down a big hill, caught fire and left on the side of a mountain in the winter for a month (on it's side). The guy who owns it is pretty rough 😂
BS....you can't pound out the pin that easy....the two other pins still have the cotter keys and lock plate on inside keep that whole side tight...unless you did not put those parts back in the first time, which would explain your problems.........I had to exert enough force prying the drum, and chiseling the shoes to literally break the shoes in half before it released because the lock plate and cotter pins were still intact .......
Here's the link to a diagram of my rear brakes, can you help me understand which parts you are talking about just the number is fine. That way we can figure out if I messed something up or not. www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/atv/2013/trx500fm-2ac-foreman-4x4/rear-brake-panel
Should be the same as my 300, remove the screws. If it's hard to spin by hand pop out the dust cap and spin the adjustment wheel a few times and it will loosen up enough to pull it off. Penetration oil helps too. Last resort is heat.

AWSOME info video
It was fun, hope you got your drum off those are a pain sometimes.
I got myself a 3 legged puller and it pops right off even when rusted !
Good idea
Had to do the same on an older Suzuki Ozark. That made life easy.
About to put this to the test hang on!
Sweet let us know how it goes!

Yeah those drums can be a pain to get off sometimes, makes it easier to work on off the machine.
Gonna have to work them splines
You get it fixed?

I wish pictures could be posted in the comments would be great to see the difference. Glad you got it apart.
How did you get shoe hold off the 2 front shoe pins ?

How to remove stuff drum on a front brake from a honda foreman 06 Four by four

I can't even get the bolt to come to get to the drum
Which one? The one with the splines on it?
