Myrkul talking mad shit for someone who can't move away from a "Wall of fire"
I did the same thing but with three scrolls of cloud of daggers
wall of fire + plague of insects makes a mess of most fights, especially if you can use scrolls/keep enough slots to bust out a chain lightning on top.
yea not really him @Broskisnowski
@@JakandDexstersThe Dead Three, to my knowledge, are basically just exceptionally powerful dudes who became so powerful in their respective talents when gifted with the responsibilities of godhood by Jergal that they may as well be gods to any normal person. Not in the sense that a level 12 wizard could evaporate a random farmer, but in the sense that you would need like 30 level 20 adventurers to hope to scratch them in a fight, of you manage to fight them at all
@@dunkleham Um...not quite. The Dead Three were true gods - Bane and Myrkul were greater powers, the same strata of divinity as Mystra, while Bhaal was a step below as an Intermediate Power. All three were slain during the Time of Troubles, but Bane returned within a decade as a true god again by using his son, Iyachtu Xvim, as an unknowing vessel. Myrkul's spirit survived within the Crown of Horns, enjoying his freedom from the trappings of divinity, while Bhaal's divine essence was split between the Bhaalspawn and Boareskyr Bridge, the site of his death. It was in 5e that Bane suddenly suffered a massive demotion (from among the mightiest of Faerun's gods of evil to a mere quasipower), while Bhaal and Myrkul were resurrected.
The funny thing is that 5e switched around portfolios again - Bhaal was the god of death (not just murder; that was his hobby), while Myrkul was the god of the dead (and also corruption, wasting, decay, old age, dusk, parasites and autumn).
But anyway, Bane in particular suffered a massive loss in power in the transition to 5e.
The funniest part, is Shadowheart's response to that whole intro: "...Oh Shit."
that was my line honestly
to be fair that is a _very_ appropriate response to this
that was also my honest reaction T_T
I actually said 'oh shit' when myrkul starts emerging and then 15 sec later Shadowheart goes with an other 'oh shit', I laughed so hard...
On my save she just stared blankly while the game waited for me to press space and then she said 'Shit' while wearing full dark justiciar armor.
Not only badassness of the whole introduction but voice of JK Simmons, who voices both Thorm and Myrkul. After this I am certain he can easily voice some monster character in the movie. Such a legend of an actor.
I didn't realise he voiced the Avatar as well. Makes sense tho, since it's still technically Ketheric's body, transformed to take Myrkul's form.
@@thestormwizard6447it wasn’t myrkul himself , just an avatar
@@aramean6502 it was Myrkul - how would it be the avatar? The avatar is just a summoned husk.
@@Dultus that was not myrkul bro, they even said in act 3 it was an avatar . If it was really myrkul the whole party would be dead
@@aramean6502 the skeleton was the avatar but not the voice - that was Myrkul.
Fighting an avatar of Myrkul was a blast, the other two don't really compare compared to this badass intro, the fight itself could of been a little harder
Yeah the other two were much less intense. Orin was okay-ish, the actual location was a great vibe and she was a pretty good character overall (better with dark urge) but she was super easy too. Gortash was honestly a lil forgettable, even with the grenade spam.
He was still okay, just couldn't compare to Myrkul or even Cazador - and nobody compares to Raphael ever
you should see the rafhael one lol
Speaks volumes for the quality of the boss battles in this game.
@@helplmchoking grenade spam? I must've finished that fight too quickly to see that lmao

LIVES, OH MORTAL LIVES
I'm gonna be straight with y'all . . .
They could have centered the whole game around Ketheric Thorm and I'd have been happy with it. I kinda desperately want to write out the Absolute plot and re-imagine Acts 1 and 2 into their own adventure to use at my own table.
It's not just that Act III is weaker than the first two acts . . . is that the build up and payoff that is Ketheric Thorm is a really, ***REALLY*** tough act to follow.
That is actually a great idea. Just make ending of the act 2 as your story climax and finale. Leave Ketheric's character, motives and interactions similar. But rewrite everything else leading to act 2 and remove Absolute from the story. You could even make him seem like a good person at first. Hide from your player fact that he is the main antagonist of your story. Just show he is just a grieving father. But then at some point plot twist!!! He was the villain all along. Make Balthazar a "fake" villain.
I thought the exact same thing. I would have been completely happy had the game ended with you removing the Shadow Curse and defeating the Absolute at Moonrise Towers. It almost feels like they wanted to make two games and had to merge them into one. Act 1 and 2 feel self contained from act 3, and easily could have ended with a cliffhanger for the next game. Which would focused on the entire city or most of Baldur's Gate, and the surrounding area. That would be my dream.
Do that, then. Nothing stops you from running a DnD camping in this very setting ^^
And that's the fun of RPGs.
I think it should have been Orin first, have us fight the Bhaal cultist within the Shadowlands and have that be a big thing there, then later on we fight the Baneintes with Gortash at the helm ruling over a smaller city and then we do more into the Avatar of Myrkul and have us fight him as the climatic showdown with the army at Baldur's Gate. It would have been quite a bit more intense I think having to run full on vs the Absolute Cultists into fighting Myrkul's chosen and then an avatar.
honestly this should have been the last of the chosen fights, it was so significantly more climatic than orin or gortash, even as a dark urge where you have to 1v1 orin
Yeah gortash was kind of a let down. I mean I’m not sure what I would’ve expected, just something a bit more grand
@@primalspongebob6144 The real boss fight for his questline was the giant robot.
@@ChristophelusPulpsyeah disabling the steel watch was 10x harder than fighting him 😂 But I guess it makes sense since literally every character says he’s untouchable while steel watch is active.
Well difference is that only Ketheric was truly willing to give up his body to become apostate, a military leader and ruler. Plus Myrkul returned Isobel to him which made him even more fanatical to Myrkul worship. Gortash was hardly a 100% devoted follower of Bane I think, he more likely used that worship as means to an end (and Bane on the other hand did the same with 0 involvement). As for Orin, I believe her being second fiddle to Dark Urge made her less Chosen of Bhaal and more like Bhaal had no other candidates at that point, and Dead Three scheeming was in full swing. Orin is somewhat like Harley to Durge's Joker.
I feel like act 2 was disproportionally more badass than act 3
Yes. The climax of Act 3 for me was Raphael. Gortash was an interesting puzzle and Orin was a disappointment.
@@genghiskhan6809 God I hate Orin so much, she might be the worst character in the whole game, even though she's wonderfully voice acted.
@@Synthia17murder spawn turned out to be annoying little shit
Only thing that sucks about is, that you get his armor but remove the gem from the chest which makes it look less nice.
the other thing that pisses me ungodly of you vant take the gautlets and boots with you
I didn't have Astarion in my party when this happened, but I had the same exact reaction.
Apostle of Myrkul: “Blah-blah-blah, I am death, I am terror”
Tav: *proceeds to blow up an avatar of a god with explosive barrels*
“Think fast, Chucklenuts!”
This intro to Myrkul is much cooler than if you just fight Ketherick. Much more somber yet also sinister, rather than cliche villain like if you fought him instead of succeeding on the redemption dialogue.
when i first got to this part, i thought "hes gonna toss himself in the pit and turn into a new boss isnt he?... god damn it"
While this game suffers for having no lair or legendary actions in terms of balancing fights, it sure as hell hit the ball out of the park with this introduction.
It seems to have some special actions. During the Yurgir fight, he broke out of my Hold Monster and let loose bombs everywhere after I hit him twice with Karlach during her turn. As far as I know, hitting an enemy doesn't break them out of Hold Person or Hold Monster.
@ArthurTorrias That would be a reaction most likely, I do know he throws out bombs when he dies.
That still doesn't come close to affecting the action economy in the same way legendary actions do.
I know I've seen a boss with Legendary Resistances.
@@gsmithy2357 Yes, there are several (with a modified version that grants +10 to the save rather than making it an auto-success).
But you can have legendary resistances and no legendary actions. No single creature in BG3 has legendary actions, which are great contributers to action economy for bosses.
I know one of baals worshippers has at least one legendary resistance but this game is still one the low to mid end of the power scale to have them. Plus this guy is like level 8 or 9 ain’t that high considering we have DRAGONS in this game
I actually cried when kerheric threw himself into the pool because in my game I had been sympathizing with him and asking him to reconsider and repent but he said he was too far gone he needs to pay for what he’s done and that he did it all for his daughter. What a great villain story.
Same here. I also despise how Nightsong stomped him after, and his daughter showed no remorse or at least sadness after his Death..... He was the only reason his daughter could be reunited with Nightsong, after all.
So much so that I am looking forward to kill Nightsong in the next playtrough.
@@Joao-jx1lo Nightsong suffered like a century of torture because of Ketheric, so I'd say her anger at the man was understandable,
@@フコノウス I am not saying her anger is not justified. I am saying that Isobel's apathy towards her savagery is completely non-understandable. Isobel was Ketheric's daughter, loved him as a Child, and she knows he is doing this for Her. He is the only reason she is reunited with Nightsong. So I guess she could at least reprimed Nightsong, or maybe be sad about the way things turned.
But she Just accepts, and then she starts to make some sexual inuendos with Nightsong, like she didn't stomped her Fathers Head 2 minutes ago.... Its kinda revolting. Thorm was the least deranged of the 3 Champions.
@@Joao-jx1lo I was specifically referring to your comment about wanting to murder Nightsong because she was abused by a death-fearing maniac. (Mind you, Ketheric also had his own reasons, not saying he is two dimensional. His story is also bleak and makes his actions understandable, even if they were twisted.) I didn't say anything about Isobel.
As for Isobel, the relationship between her and Ketheric was likely more strained than you realize. He was the one who prevented Isobel and Aylin to be together in the first place, which somehow ended in Isobel's death, which in turn made her father turn to Shar, starting the whole shadow curse ordeal. Which to Isobel, a Selunite cleric, will have been a betrayal of her whole upbringing.
And then, to bring his daughter back, who probably died due to his own actions, Ketheric swore himself to Myrkul, literally one of the most evil entities in all of the Forgotten Realms.
Seeing her father go down this path probably wasn't easy for Isobel. So yeah, she could have been a bit more offended at Aylin's description of Ketheric's death, but as she said herself, may he rest in peace, now that he's dead. She's just relieved that it is over.
@@フコノウス My Will to kill Nightsong has nothing to do with Ketheric, I Just particularly despise her.
My point is: this is the only thing I thought was a dowside in the game. There's absolutely NO EVIDENCE Isobel died because of Ketheric. Yes, he wanted her away from Aaylin, but nowhere in the game, in the notes, in the books It is written that Ketheric Killed her by mistake or accident. This is completely false.
Isobel of course would be strained from her Father, but it's ridiculous tu suppose she would not Care for someone stomping his brain to mush, and that 2 minutes later would Kiss that person like If nothing happened. Again, NOTHING proves her Father was the cause of her Death, but on the other hand IT WAS HER FATHER WHO REVIVED HER. And, c'mon, she dont get a little emotion out of his Death?
This could've been done so much better. Imagine Isobel get strained, some days worth of Long Rest thinking about her dead Father, then returns, after making peace with herself.
Bro I thought I was gonna get one-shot when this cinematic happened. Great boss intro.
I had rushed through the mindflayer colony just to finally finish this act, it was like 2 in the morning, Gale had maybe three spell slots left, Shadowheart was nearly dead, and then this guy turns into an avatar of death. I damn near cried. Beat him, but man, that was a struggle.
If only the other chosen had a 2nd phase this cool
Gortash is as useless as my dead dog as without his stupid steel watch
This should be the new "why am I hearing boss music" meme
That intro was a spectacle. Goosebumps inducing epicness. Praise Daddy Myrkul.
This intro is even more powerful when you're on Ketheric's bad side. Either way, still so cool.
Man the music cover all the magnificent voice acting
At first I did not realize this was an avatar and thought it was actually Myrkul and thought this was a fight I was supposed to escape.
you said it... jesus it makes my skin crawl everytime
Probably one of my most favourite openings to a boss fight.
I wish I could see this for the first time again. This BLEW my mind. This felt like when you run home and get big brother for the bullies
Too many people shitting on Act 3 here. The battles were actually better in Act 3, just didnt have a cool intro. As cool as this entrance was, the dude just stands there and gets annihilated.
god such a cool fucking intro. also obsessed with astarion's soft little "OH. oh dear" god he's so silly
I prefer Shadowheart "Oh shit", it's just so funny.
Anyone else expecting a BONESTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORM moment in this fight? no? Okay :D
Core Memory unlocked
Get back in naxx you budget papyrus
It was a cool intro and then Nightsong went and demolished them in one turn.
This scene for me bugged out for some reason, and they were all teleported to a far away land with five mindflayers standing behind us.
Same happened to me - Use Vulkan instead of DX11, fixes almost all of the graphical and game loading related issues.
@@AzurebrandVidsi tried, but the game crashes after a few minutes ;_;
Same. It was actually a perfect transition from the mostly finished part of the game to the completely unfinished final act.
You have officially crossed the border of Fuckaroundville and are now entering Find Out City
I had Karlach in my party during this scene and she just goes "Oh f*ck" and I was like LOL YUP
Only thought I had “that’s unfair!”
Ketheric should've been the last of the three you fight, he felt more like the final boss to me than the other two and he was so much more interesting
I just commented something similar 😅 they gave us the best one at the beginning, the others were just disappointment
@W_Junior
I also would've expected the God of Death to be stronger than the other two
I see Myrkul follows the same idea from Auril.
Getting his ass kicked by lvl 9 adventurers.
Doesn't change this is a epic entrance for a epic looking boss.
Jaheira really said "Hello, Death. I like your hat."
Aylin cinematic was dope too
bro i got chills when i saw this 1st time
I cant stop watching or listening to this. I love myrkuls intro.
oh cool thanks, my game bugged on this scene and was rendering a desert xd
This game is amazing, and Act 2 is a masterpiece 👌
This version of Death just tied for my favorite alongside the 2017 Castlevania anime's version.
the funniest part is that he's not even death anymore, his job got taken by kelemvor.
Ew, they turned death into an edgy 14 year old that thinks swears are cool, I would have preferred him to talk like that only as Varney, and when the facade drops he reveals his true form
@@noone12748 He didn’t even swear that excessively, and you’re out of your mind if you think literal death wouldn’t swear.
@@flamenami Sorry but no, it took me out of it, especially since his voice actor is the talented Malcom McDowell, someone who could do a proper intimidating old death performance similar to the other games, a missed opportunity to have a cool contrast between a foul mouthed hoodlum that was Death all along and just playing a character
Astarion: "Oh dear 💅🏻"
I heard a rumor that Myrkul used to be an adventurer, but reached max level and became a Deity
Hail Myrkul!
The sound effect for his “Touch of Death” move made my jaw drop. The sound building up in pitch only to momentarily disappear and suddenly get smacked with that bass filled echo sounds like the kind of maneuver only a god can pull off.
Also it cut Karlachs health in half. I just stacked some black powder barrels and wall of fired his ass
This fight is so easy to cheese because of his immobility lol. Pop up a wall of fire around his back, a cloud of daggers or some other stuff like hunger of hadar, and attack him from range while somebody is swinging at him up close.
On my very first run, when I finally beat Ketheric and this started to play, my butt cheeks just snapped together from realization that this is the second phase, and I was already pretty beat up.😂
get the chills everytime i see this, and i have seen it plenty plenty
Almsot everyone was at 10-25HP when katheric died. My reaction was literally Shadowhearts.
Oh. Oh dear.
lol f#*ing I love his voice actor 😂
I fucking loved that boss intro, there's just something bone chilling, no pun intended about how somber and disinterested he sounds while monologuing compared to your usual flashy, full of ego and crap bad guys. Myrkul just shows up to clean up like it's nothing, he get's his ass handed to him but hey, he goes down with style.
Astarion, Lae'Zel & Minthara... ahhh good old evil gameplay!
the one problem i have with this intro, it COMPLETELY steals the other chosen’s thunder, like how could gortash ever compare to THIS
My backpack with 10 smoke powder barrels and a rune powder barrel + a couple orthon bombs: Haha funny words silly skelly boi!
Gortash and Orin felt so underwhelming in comparison. I really wished the had polished up Act 3 a bit more.
The introduction is just like in a souls game
Not Astarion going "Oh dear." LIKE NO SHIT BOYO-😭😂
Such a cool scene dripping with atmosphere and tension.
Myrkul : "I am the smile of the worm-cleansed skull. I am the regrets of those who remain, and the restlessness of those who are gone. I am the haunt of mausoleums, the god of graves and age, of dust and dusk. I am Myrkul, Lord of Bones, and you have slain my Chosen. But it is no matter, for I am Death. And I am not the end-I am a beginning."
TAV : "That's an impressive curriculum... but you forgot to be the master of the Runepowder barrel !"
Myrkul : "... Oh shit !"
I was expecting all of the Chosen to have a similarly epic and daunting phase two transition into some form of avatar.
Act three did not deliver on that front.
I should amend this by saying that Orin's monstrous form is quite a challenging fight. The build up to it is nowhere near as good though, in my opinion.
Bruh this fight with tactician plus and better bosses mods make this feel like the real final boss istg
yep.. i say the same than Astarion.. oh dear....
Basically nobody talks about the fact that, for some reason, voice lines of Myrkul are so quiet it's basically incomprehensible without subtitles, really weird..
All that talk in the intro, and the only thing i remember is withers monologue.
Never thought I'd see a Baldur's Gate 3, let alone a good sequel. Then the mfs at Larion do THIS
I am so glad the hacks at beam dog did not get to make this game after the abomination that was siege of dragonspear for baldur's gate enhanced edition, even if they did make a good baldur's gate 3 that would still be a bad thing because we would have not gotten this we just would not know it.
I wish they'd started this boss with minions like they did with Ketheric- action economy obliterates Myrkul if you've prepped at all for the fight. Going in with a full party, 2 summoned elementals, AND Nightsong meant that my fight was over before he could even do anything. (Insult to injury was Lae'zel disarming him on her turn, I didn't think it'd work I just wanted the higher damage).
I remember the first time i got here, I was streaming it to some of my friends and when I almost talked him down and skipped phase 1 they all started freaking out because none of them knew you could do that granted I didn't either, "bro you skipped half the fight" shit was crazy
BG 3 is really movie quality. The reason why I took 150h to play is simply because the rich and awesome voice acting.
This is the best boss intro ever.
It’s such a curve ball because you aren’t expecting to find a God in the mid game. 😱
the moust walkover fight ever... when he emerged i was like "oh fuck - i just wasted all my remaining spell slots on gale for "making general die faster, gtfo i wanna be over with this" + didnt healed my party (since i just wanted to finish the fight and then go to camp). Then suddenly this guy comes, no spells on gale, my party kinda beaten, and an aura with says "no healing".... i was 100% sure i will need to load the fight and heal myself before killing general, but somehow i just smahes this guy to dead
Oh wow, he looks terrifying, and like he could almost KO a 2 HP from full Karlak in 1 hit.
It would sure be a shame if an enterprising Dragonborn Stunning Striked him every single turn so he couldn't do a damn thing until the turn before he dies (I ran out of Ki points)
The buildup to moonrise towers is amazing.
I feel like the fantasy of fighting the gods or at least their ''avatar'' should be more of a thing
Smited his ass to smithereens using the Blood of Lathandar with my Paladin… and a couple of hold monster scrolls I found..
I loved Astarions response 😂
Funny I saved that runepowder barrel from the grim forge. Lit that thing in it's face after making it vulnerable to all damage. The lord of bones met Oppenheimer that day
Choir starts chanting: “oh no”
“I am the smile of the worn cleansed skull”: “OH NO”
and here i am again.. epic scene
*ROLL INITIATIVE*
yoooo.... that's Fane face! or at least you could customise for his skull to be like that
no idea why but after this cutscene came up after one really short butt whoopin i cackled like a bloody hyena 😂 he still had health so i was like bro your a chicken crying to your god you can still stand another round or two of magic arrows 😂 meh used the magic arrows on his god it was quick work if i could i would have danced 💃 on the battle ground
This went the hardest.
this was EXACTLY what happened to me... convinced him to back off and he jumped in the pit. when i tell you my stomach DROPPED when myrkul showed up. i thought i fucked up big time
this intro is a lot scarier on honor mode
First big 'oh shit' moment
Crapped my pants here fr
And then he died in 1 turn on Tactician... :)
0:31 ,,nooooo, my loot..."
Myrkul is badass
Roll for initiative.
this is fking epic man...
For some reason, I found kethrics avatar form more powerful then the rest
This video would have been perfect if the music wasnt louder than the voice of Myrkul.
Super cool intro, ngl I was having my ass beat by ketheric, so this guy showing up had me shitting bricks, but he went down like a bitch in 1 turn.
o...o dear
And then I used fog on him and he was helpless..
