I try to plan out in a flexible way especially but my athletes I homeschool I have a way of planning out so they have more of a understanding of planning!!! I’m teaching both of them to plan!!! I think they definitely will need a super sr yr!!! They have 6 to 7 months of comps!!! I’m trying to plan
A middle ground for the athletes as they are 15 so old enough for learning to plan and plan their training!!! I love a flexible schedule and I kno my kids do as well!!! We just do devotionals as they do it but I require them daily!!! If we finish language arts early we finish it but my kids hate language arts!!! Nothing wrong with a grade taking longer than a year!!! My 13 year old daughter could start 9th grade as she’s asking to and I’ve not looked into it but she’s doing high school credits!!! As we are in Hawaii now high school is 9th grade!!! I’m still getting used to this!!! Idk what we will do for social studies as what i planed I want to do but I get that my kids don’t want to do it as it’s not nice to read about!!! Art we call doing art!!! We love the books of centuries that we have!!! My older daughter made a different one for her social studies research project!!! Our homeschool advisor asked us to havens basic math credit for high school then 2 or 3 high school math credits!!! We are deciding on astronomy and idk if we will do it this year but I doubt it!!! I love playing school schedules by the fly and see what works!!! We are doing extra science and language credits for the kids who want to do extra credits!!!

It sounds like you have a great balance of planning and flexibility. That's a lot of competitions!!! What social studies were you planning on doing this year? Do you homeschool year round, or do you have a start date for this new year coming up (or maybe you start in Jan)?

@@CalmintheChaosHomeschool we school yr round and we have a lot of breaks between the 9 comps in a year!!! I did this work when my twins where babies so it’s the 1st time we’ve done it with school age kids!!! We have plenty of opportunities for field trips as well!!!

Hopefully you have some dual enrollment options for your 8th grader as she gets older. I graduated homeschool at 16, but DE wasn’t really an option.
My Practically Imperfect Life has some videos on scheduling GH courses.

We do have dual enrollment here, so that is a consideration once she is a bit older. I love watching My Practically Imperfect Life about any high school content, and especially Guest Hollow content ☺️

I was curious how you have column A & C "locked" so it doesn't move when you scroll the rest. I need that to happen on my excel spread sheet and can't figure it out.😊

Oh! So there is a dark “line” on the top and side of the page. I just grab it with my mouse and pull the line down to where I want it to be and then grab the line from the left to where I want that to be. Then that part always stays on my screen while I scroll.

Can I ask a bit of a random question/request? Level F, is there a fair bit of kissing, romance, hormones and all that in the read alouds and readers in F? I read a post recently on fb, and the op was saying she felt there was quite a lot of kissing and all that, and she didn’t like that quite a bit of the books had this in and that that this was introducing a topic that wasn’t even on her kids radar. I have probably poorly expressed her post. I could see where she was coming from. My boys will be 10 1/2 and 13 1/3 when starting F, so one son at the upper age and my youngest on the younger side. Could you share your views on which books and your thoughts please. Also, how mature is level F. Thanks so much,

I don’t feel like there is a “fair bit” of that, but there is some. The one that I felt had some was Seven Daughters for Seven Sons. There were a few parts that I edited as I was reading aloud. We enjoyed that book, but if you are uncomfortable with some of that, you could just skip that book. Another book that we didn’t end up reading that probably had some of that was Habibi and I’m not sure about Shadow Spinner. I looked at the covers of the rest of the books to refresh my memory and I couldn’t remember any other books that stood out. I couldn’t be 100% on all the readers as some of my kids read aloud to me some times and some don’t at all, but I don’t feel like there was anything like that in any of those. We also haven’t read the books covered for Africa or Australia etc, but those don’t look like books to be concerned about. My kids were 10-15 going through this level (my boys 10-12) and I was slightly uncomfortable with the Seven Daughters book (but I think it’s a read aloud so you can edit on the fly). Overall, my kids LOVED this level and I’m so glad we did it. I think it’s smart to take your individual family into account when considering if and when to do this level. My kids are generally sort of at that age where a bit of mild romance is welcome (except maybe my youngest who it just flys over his very literal head 😂). I would definitely join the Level F Facebook group if you wanted to get more people’s opinions on the specific books in the level.

I would like to add… we haven’t done level G ourselves yet, but I haven’t heard the same concerns. It might be that you skip F for now, so G and maybe H, and come back to F later? Or, if that would put your youngest at too hard a level, take a break from Sonlight and try out Guest Hollows Junior Geography level for a fun different type of literature based geography experience.

@@CalmintheChaosHomeschool that’s really good to hear, and helpful, thank you for your reply.
I’ll pre read those two books and go from there. It does look a great level. Some posts on F, the responses are quite divided with some saying it was their least favourite core and others their best. I like that it incorporates note-booking too, and the books look really interesting from what I can see.
