I have to agree with Pat here, if you’re paying an 18 year old 150k and he’s not taking it seriously, throwing half a mill at him and making him your franchise player is only gonna make him more comfortable doing what he’s doing. He’s essentially getting rewarded with an extra 350k for not trying last season and not caring about the team. If the contract is a guarantee contract where he’s 100% getting half a mill a year it’s a disastrous move for NY

I feel like there are many instances where Ben and Pat have some disagreement over a nuanced topic and it just ends without us learning why “that’s not how it works”. I can’t speak for the whole community but I would personally love to see some of these topics explored in greater depth, whether that may be through the flank or Ben’s channel or whatever. I just wanna understand the nuances because I’m sure I’m not the only CoD fan who’s interested in the business/finance/decision-making process in the league/franchise teams.
Same here agree! We see two differ e too it’s of views via player and operation/business side I guess you can say. Would like to know more about the finance in the league being a finance major.
The main reason is Ben just refuses to explain. He’s said he “doesn’t want to get in trouble with his previous employer,” but idk how he can get in trouble if he no longer works there. If he’s worried about burning bridges, then he needs to just shut his mouth and not speak up. It’s the starting to speak up and then shutting back down with “all I’ll say is” to save face that leaves people more confused and annoyed.
@@thealpaca2015 yeah it’s not my favourite thing for sure. It could be that the network and relationships built through said previous employer is what keeps him in the loop on so many of these incidents that occur outside of the public eye. Hence the behaviour you just mentioned.

Aches has great takes this episode and has been much better during the off season. Guy is literally speaking straight facts.
To Aches' point, the top 3-4 teams are likely staying together: Optic, Faze, Thieves, and Seattle. Take out those 16 players. There isn't a set of 4 players in the entire world that you would favor over Faze next year, and probably not over Optic either. The point is... There is a premium on the top tier talent in call of duty, and with no real way to entice players to leave, the orgs not at the top really just have to rely on mid tier pros or top challenger players to suddenly peak at a certain cod (like Standy in CW) and maybe win an event. But we see the teams that win in the league. Even Thieves this year is made up of several-year veterans. I just don't see how you build a team if you're a GM that can truly consistently compete with the established superstar rosters.
The blueprint is what Seattle did last year. Get a vet AR/leader (Accuracy) and fill the rest of the roster with insanely talented, unproven players with high upside (Sib and Pred) and hope for the best. Empire did a similar thing in Modern Warfare.

@@fuzzy2197 exaclty I though the same. they got mack who carried nysl and got them a chip in mw and shows signs cw. sib who was next up and took a chance on pred who was dominant in lesser regions but shows sign of brilliance. not to mention mack and sib previously teamed. its possible but its very hard with so much talent already.

I hope there are some stipulations in Hydra's contract as well. Players in the NHL will sometimes have performance-based bonus'. The league isn't the most profitable as it's still growing but they gotta be thinking of ways in which to maximize your gain. If NYSL get stuck with this contract over years and win nothing...
Competitive cod is at a plateau it used to be more popular
The issue with putting that in a contract is that is if he gets offered a contract without it somewhere else suddenly NYSL isn't as attractive to him

So, as a master Crim decipher, he was basically saying the teams that have a guy that isn’t worth what they’re currently getting, they’ll restructure their contract & make it worth way less money in order to free up space to bring in… CRIM.

This fix for no salary cap would be to have stipulations for max contracts like the NBA. Like you can only have 1 or 2 MAX contracts, and certain things like wins/making all star guarantee more money. You also can’t model the league after a sports league if the teams sign whoever they want, there is no draft or limitations. Also, having multi year deals, or plans for players in general is insane when a completely new game comes out EVERY year.

Pat was spot on with the Salary Cap comparison. Superstars will always be attracted to bigger markets that offer the most opportunity and will not leave even if a competitor doubled their salary. No team can enter the CDL as Pat stated and can compete with Optic and FaZe. Those are the biggest named brands in all of CoD, EVERYONE dreams of playing for them. People will take pay cuts to get on those teams because they will also get sponsorships, endorsement and most important of all, they allow the most exposure and ability to accumulate a following. Why leave a structure that works and threaten your future as well by joining a team just entering the CDL. Ben thinks you can build a structure like the Rays but didn’t even bother to say that ALL the Rays players will not win the World Series and in fact will just get bought out by the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, Astros. Because those markets are a bigger pull and have more money. So yes you can build a structure to compete in the midfield but the point is, you will never create a roster that can compete for a world championship with no salary cap in place unless you hit 4/4 and hit the next Dashy, Cellium, Simp and Abezy in a single roster gamble.
CDL should implement a cap floor if there isn’t one. It would force teams to pay players. It could lead to overpaying of lesser talent players but it could make teams that don’t spend a lot to go after talented players.
All that's gonna do is end the CDL quicker. COD isn't making any of these orgs money.

I agree with Ben, With Hydra about to recieve the equivlant of a supermax contract in the NBA, the organizations expectations for him are only going to increase because now they are investing in more than just his COD abilities. They need him to not only be their best player, but to also be their team leader (in terms of keeping team morale and chemistry high). You don't pay someone in the NBA 30 million plus dollars a year to be just another player on the roster, certain expectations come with that money. Additionally, of course there is risk signing Hydra to a contract of this magnitude considering all of the information illuminated during the last episode of the flank, but the reason why NYSL think its worth it, is because just like we all know... there aint no SMG's out there as good as Hydra, he's young (With so much room to grow and learn) and is already in the upper echelon of the top 48 COD players in the world.

Hydra is not a leader. No offense but he can barely speak English. It’s hard for him to find the correct words to get his points across. Even myself I learned English as a kid at 8 years old and sometimes I find myself thinking of the correct words because I forget sometimes.
I feel like he used the wrong word in “Responsibility” i feel like its more “Pressure” on him now that NYSL has allegedly done everything he wanted such as dropping paulex and crimsix plus giving him a 3year 500k contract? Now he has alot of pressure on his shoulders to deliver the org a chip because eventually NYSL will want and need a flip on their $1.5million investment if it is going to be a guaranteed contract
