The issue isn't the gauge size but the quality of the track to handle at higher speed. Anyway, in to-day's environment, the KTM freight train hardly average 20 km per hour with the cement train averaging even below 15 kmph on over all basis. Better communication system may help to improve the basic speed!

the need is not there because its not available, but imagine that if it is. You can stay with your family in the rural areas and work in klang. Lower cost of living plus it will encourage people to move out of KL, bringing more economic activities in Kelantan. But based on the video I guess it not possible because of the rail it self, probably too much curves. @@ifques30i think for now the original speed proposed is enough (160kmh for passenger & 80kmh for freight). We must remember that this project mainly for reducing shipping time for about 30 hours between china and europe in order to compete against SG as long as both of our ports in Kuantan & Klang has the capacity to do so. I understand that High speed rail is also important but considering the signalling tools and maintenance cost etc, it will be too risky for the gov to pull off.

Ngl, when they said it's not to be more than 200kmph, I felt a slight relief. It is shame due to some short sightedness of our politicians. Remember that moron which said "rakyat Malaysia lebih suka internet lambat" and also another moron that cancel the HSR KL-Singapore and paid millions in compensation.
If it can travel at 350km/h I would probably take this rail to east coast for meeting and leisure (the moment we reach there can use Grab to reach final destination) but if they train is so slow, I wouldn't want to waste my time on such train, I rather drive there myself.
Victor Gao is right and smart to propose the potential to upgrade. Think deeper if it can carries 10million passengers and x amount of freight goods and NOW we need to spend 2-3 hours more on these line such decision FORCED rakyat and waste 20-30 millions on a unproductive train. Is such mentality positive to attract investors to invest in Malaysia? The list of pro and con goes on and on for higher speed.
China is testing their new train that can travel around 1000km/h and one can travel from Shanghai - Hangzhou in 9 minutes (almost 180-200km journey, like traveling from Rawang to Melaka in 9 minutes)
