"Happy Money" and "The Identity Trap" look very interesting -- I look forward to your reviews. The Star Tarot is so wintry and crisp. Thank you for sharing.

That’s a wonderful way to describe the Star tarot - wintery and crisp!

Thank you for sharing these items. Specifically “the identity trap”. I totally agree with you on that topic and it sounds like an interesting read! I’ll also have to checkout the moonology podcast! I didn’t know about that and love those Oracle decks. ❤ My husband and I have been watching oak island for years and we really hoped they’d find the treasure. 🤩

I didn’t know about the Moonology podcast either, but I happened across it and I’m glad I found it. And yes I’m hoping that they find the treasure too on oak island!

I have about four books by my bed. My problem is that I don't think I typically finish books I start. I remember reading that Happy Money book. I don't remember not liking it, but I'm also wondering if I finished it. I remember thinking the author seemed nice. That Identity book sounds pretty interesting. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts about it🙂
Orange chocolate is good🙂 When you mentioned Judas Priest I thought of the new Dolly Parton album with Rob Halford on it. You should listen to it and give your thoughts. I haven't listened to it myself. Just short excerpts. Thank you for the vid Lou.🌳

Yes I heard about Dolly Partons new album. I want to check it out.

Love this video! For the first time I feel like I'm not alone when it comes to having tons of anxiety around handling money. Also I just recently saw a video from a celebrity I've always liked pointing out that he's been very outspoken politically as a liberal for years but because he is considered 98% in agreement with the far left, instead of 100%, he's been cancelled. He had a great point. Also I very much am disturbed by the huge numbers excusing terrorism these days. It's scary. Personally, I've been trying to get less take out to try to save money, so I've been *slightly* more motivated to cook more elaborately to fill that need for something tasty. Have a great month, Lou!

Thank you! I’m so glad I’m not alone in noticing the problems going on with the far left. I’m also glad that I’m not alone with trying to work on my relationship with money. Thanks for watching and sharing.

I have 'Mastering Magick' on the TBR, but then again, also have his 'Psychic Witch' on the TBR, so may take me a bit to get there. On esoterica, reading 'Tarot for the Hard Work' at the moment. I was reading something else, which I had to drop because the hard work book just called me to read it now, so picked it up. Will review it on the blog, but so far, very good.
I hear you. I read several books at a time myself. The minimum I have to have going is at least one fiction, one nonfiction, and a graphic novel or comics.
Not to stir the political pot, but yea, I've been saying for years the RWNJs are dangerous, and more importantly, are very good at playing the long game, a bit at a time, township by township. Their gambits are paying off now, and the Left (what passes for Left in the US) are still asleep at the wheel and/or just worried if anyone dares ask a question. But as I also often say, I am not a pundit nor do I play one on TV. Tom Holland, historian, was recently interview in Spanish (Spain) media on his new book 'Pax' (it was just translated into Spanish), and he says a lot of how the Roman Empire thrived is because people wanted peace and stability, and if that meant losing a few rights, they were OK with that. He then draws a parallel to modern China. Was not able to find the specific link, but there are some interviews with him here on CZcams.
That is a nice planner book. I always like a good journal book with that back pocket to put stuff in. Did not know about Boland's podcast; I may have to look for it.
I do not stream much either (GenX here too), unless it is free stuff (like Tubi). LOL on the brown 80s, again, I hear ya. All that wood paneling.
Thanks for sharing. Some great stuff here. Paz y amor.

Thanks for sharing. I agree that the Right is better at playing the long game and the left is asleep at the wheel.

I’m a lifelong liberal and I agree with you about the alarming far left narrative that certain groups are more deserving of special treatment than others. I’ve even seen a witch CZcamsr saying that if you don’t agree with them on the topic they were ranting and crying about, you’re not a real witch! Antisemitism is on the rise and now it’s coming from both sides in the extreme groups, even to the point of excusing terrorism! My husband is Jewish, so this is an important issue for me. I know you don’t want to get into politics on your channel, but I wanted you to know that there are others who share your concerns and appreciate your honest candor.

Thank you so much. I’m glad I’m not alone in seeing these issues. The rise of antisemitism and the excusing of terrorism I find to be particularly frightening. And I know exactly what video you are talking about with the ranting and crying. It seemed performative and extremely judgmental. It is very concerning and I’m glad I’m not alone. Thanks for sharing.

    Enjoyable update, as usual!
I don't know that I would exactly agree with what it sounds like the thesis of the Identity Trap is, but of course I haven't read it. Most of what you say you have observed isn't really what I have observed, though there are often extreme segments in any group. What I wish for is for some feminists (including queer feminists and/or feminists of colour) who I am familiar with to do reviews of it, so I don't have to read it (I'm busy and lazy). Henry Louis Gates, Jr. provided a blurb on the Amazon website entry, which is at least something, though I think I am possibly more left than he is in some ways, and he was positive, but not entirely "Rah-rah!" about the book.
There has always been a contingent within class-focused leftists who have hated on identity politics for decades by now, so a general leftist debate about some of these issues isn't entirely new to me. But the book sounds potentially like a critique of identity politics from a more "liberal" than "leftist" position?? (I should clarify, I'm speaking here from a Canadian context, which informs how I differentiate between "liberal" and "leftist", though it does not entirely determine it). Or am I misunderstanding how the author frames and names his own perspective?
RE: Terrorism. Let's not forget that framing a given action as "terrorist" isn't always a neutral objective action. Remember how 9/11 caused US and Canadian authorities to over-extend and weaponize the term in ways that have increased surveillance against black and indigenous groups in Canada and the US.
However, I don't disagree that what I think you are referring to can fall under the label of terrorism. I condemn the violence of that event/action, but we must admit that it didn't come out of nothing and nowhere. It's part of a long, deadly, and difficult conflict. I also condemn the institutional violence of border walls, settlements, and state policies in that area of the world, and the fact that to some it is apparently "justifiable" to have over 20,000 civilian casualties while hunting for perpetrators of a terrorist act...

    • @LouValcourt
      @LouValcourt  Před 7 měsíci +2

These are interesting points that you make. I’m Canadian too so I understand what you are talking about that left and liberal can mean different things. You are right that there are always extremist elements and I think it’s really important to be able to have these discussions. That’s how we move forward. I don’t mind if others disagree, it’s the trying to shame and silence others when they do that I have an issue with. I agree with you that these issues are really complicated and many of these conflicts are very old and didn’t start yesterday. To be clear I mourn the loss of innocent lives in any conflict. Thousands of innocent people have been killed and are suffering and it’s horrible. There are no winners, it’s the innocents on either side that pay the price of the power hungry.

      @@LouValcourt Yes, so much so!
I went away and thought about why I was so compelled to comment about the criticism of identity politics, because I don't want to be knee-jerk in my responses, and also because I think you are a well-intended and reasonable left-leaning person.
I think it is because of several reasons, 2 of which I will mention here:
      1) I have encountered many critiques of identity politics that have no nuance, no grounding in the complexities of everyday life, and that throw the baby out with the bathwater.
      2) While I am a white, cis, English-speaking, overly-educated citizen of southern ON, Canada, and benefit from the privileges usually afforded here to people with those characteristics, I am otherwise multiply-marginalized. And it is difficult to go through the fear (and reality) of not being understood, of being pushed-aside, invisible, disadvantaged and left behind in some significant ways because of mainstream mindsets and the way society is set up. Whereas, some of the long-standing social justice movements that get labelled as part of identity politics have literally saved my sanity and my life.
So I guess I can't help but find such a discussion of identity politics to be rather fraught!
I can hope that the book is not only written in good faith, but brings up some important points of discussion in a productive way. The title gives me many qualms, but no doubt publishers love a controversial title...
Anyway, thank you for your kind and thoughtful response. Cheers!

@@nmelodic6391 thank you. I agree that these issues are super complicated and sometimes people throw the baby out with the bath water. There has definetly been some good things that have happened and more awareness of various issues, which is good. I also think most of the criticism of identity politics has come from the right and I do not share that point of view as it tends to try to dismiss it entirely. The irony is the right engages in their own identity politics, just in a different way. Thanks you for sharing some really important points and for a wonderful discussion. I’m not sure what I’m going to think of the book, but I’ll do a full review when it’s done. Sending love.
