something I keep thinking about that I haven't heard anyone else mention yet: Is THE MOON (the full moon, the dark moon, etc) somehow, possibly, the spirit world? The Spirit Ashes (whose summoning bell is bequeathed to the Tarnished by Ranni), to my eyes, have a color palette that is very reminiscent of how the moon and stars are depicted in-game. Before the Erdtree, astrologers studied the Stars, and from them gleaned a faint amount of power, said to be the souls or spirits of those stars. Then Rennala came along and turned the focus onto the Full Moon, which was said to be...??? It doesn't seem like much is elaborated on what the power of the Moon actually ~is~. To my mind, the Moon is the Spirit World, and is the "natural" order of the World/Lands Between that the Erdtree usurped. Like the Moon and the tides in the real world, the Spirit World Moon is cyclical in nature, waxing and waning, EXCEPT...we never really see crescent moons in Elden Ring much do we? Or half-moons? It is always the Full and the Dark (and the Black)...what I propose is this: the denizens of the Lands Between studied the skies and realized death and cataclysms and human progress, or "fate", was somehow tied to the Stars and the Moon in their world, and so created or invited or cultivated the Erdtree in order to control their fates, but were eventually pulled into yet another cyclical spiritual trap, and Ranni is trying to restore the Natural Balance of the world, so to speak?
An eclipse would block out the Erdtree / Greater Will's light, and thus power maybe? I think the guidance of grace and power of light as demonstrated in Miquella, Radagon, Marika, and the Elden Beast in their associated incantations is informative of their power over reality.
The Golden Order was all about seizing and controlling power. And what could be more of a symbol of power than being able to control Death? The Erdtree was almost certainly the Great Tree of old, the golden bark around it symbolizes how the Order had taken it over. Death is neither good nor evil, it's just part of the natural cycle. But by removing Death from the lands, the Order broke the cycle, and all lands tied to the cycle suffered.
You deserve a lot of credit for this theory, especially since the new trailer.

I can’t help but think that the Lands Between are between life and death, a kind of purgatory. The Lands Between don’t feel real, they feel like a dreamland. Souls aren’t meant to live and be reborn in the same vessel over and over again. I think the Erdtree has invaded a kind of purgatory realm a realm between life and death and has interrupted the natural order for its own power. One thing is for certain, seizing control over death and rebirth is unnatural. Or perhaps the Lands Between feel like purgatory because of the Erdtree’s perversion of the natural order.
This might make sense since the ErdTree feeds and thrives on strife and suffering.
I can see some possible berserk parallels when it comes to the idea of a spirit world.

I kind of feel (and this is just my personal opinion) that the Rune of death was sealed away by Marika to extend her and her children’s reign of power. With the gloom eyed queen gone and death sealed away it stopped the cycles not only of death and rebirth but also the cycles ages (I.e the age of stars). There’s a lot of opposites and cycles in all the soulsborne games and I don’t think this is any different. I don’t think the Erdtree is good. The golden order only accepted those it wanted to, leaving the misbegotten, albanurics, crucible touched beings, omens, etc to be treated like crap and used as slaves or worse.
Generally in these kind of stories, Gods contest over a concept called mana, which gives them power. People hold mana in their movement as spirits. The Erdtree was a way of circumventing movement of spirits/mana for power of the Greater Will.
The deadbed is a "technique" from outside the lands between. When Fia got the call of grace she was in another land where the deadbed companions are from, and she was cast away from it do to her calling of grace.
I believe that this spirit world is a creation of the Outer God that sent the Twinbird.
Normally, without the influence of any God, and with the Rune of Death in its place, people would just die definitively.

That's an interesting topic, could the greater will be misunderstood and not all evil as we think ? Maybe it has a motive so beyond our reasons that justify everything horrible act it's order committed throughout the ages or maybe we just need to twist our perspective a bit

Hear me out: we do actually see something that resembles a "spirit world" in the game. I'm talking about the Mountaintops of the Giants, wich is filled with animal spirits and tree spirits for no apparent reason. My theory is that the spirit world is located in the mountaintops but is on a different plane of reality, so obviously we can't interact with it but only see glimpses of it. Also, the Helphen Steeple talks about a light similar to grace that guides spirits to the spirit world, and in the Forbidden Lands we do find rays of light that look just like grace, but in red, the same color of the gem in the Helphen Steeple. The Forbidden Lands are the gateway that links the "living world" to the spirit world.
Ordina is very similar and maybe that’s why the snowfield is considered consecrated
