The knights of the Cuckoo were also keen on persecuting Albinaurics, as noted by the Albinauric Pot, made with their own silver blood as a cruel joke.
"The Knights of the Cuckoos do declare. Behold, thy defiled blood."
Companies of mercenary "knights" running amok was an all too common scourge in Europe in the 1300-1500's. Italy for example was especially plagued by them as were parts of France. Why they ran amok was usually over pay, some lord would hire them and not pay up once the job was done or ransacking the countryside might have even been part of the payment.
Edit: The Cuckoo knights really remind of these historical mercenary companies and the behaviour of the academy falls inline with some of these mercenaries employers.
They’re basically jocks that wants to be a giga chad carian knight but have the intelligence of a peanut so they decide if they can’t be a Carian knight then no one gets to be one. So they decide to make a unholy alliance with the nerds to get rid of the Carian knights.😺
I'm 14 and this is deep
Although that is true. They are smarter than legit any other regional knight in the game. I guess except the Ancient dragon knights and the Haligntree knights.
Deepest lore.
Nah, after Radagon left Rennala and she lost her mind the Academy basically realised that she was unfit to be their head, which led to conflict between the Academy and Rennala's family. They just didn't want their school to fall into ruin because of a mentally ill headmistress.
The reason the academy gave them free rein to do whatever they wanted is simple, the academy gives no care for anything outside the academy's walls. Thats part of why the areas around the academy are in such terrible shape.
Every time he said "the knights", I kept waiting for him to finish with, "who say Ni."😂😅
A GLINTSTONE SHRUBBERY!
lol thank you for reminding me to watch Monty Python and The Holy Grail for the 10000th time
Goddanmit, I saw this when I started watching now its all I can hear
good for you, old man.
Bro even the 10yos love monty python man stop the hate
They’re basically my build. Strength with just enough intelligence to cast scholars shield and glintstone pebble.
They have the coolest armor of all the knights in my humble opinion.
Really? I thought everyone agreed that knights of godrick have best set
Apparently the word “cuckoldry” comes from the cuckoo bird. Given what happens to Rennala, I find it fitting that cuckoos are recurring symbol In Liurnia.
Cuck o's the best cereal
Yup everything is connected. Radagon/Marika LITERALLY Cucked Rennala, by the actual definition.🤣
I have a hunch that the idea of a parasitic cuckoo is what happened with Radagon, Renala and Marika. Radagon marries Renala, she gives birth to three children, two of which are very anti-golden order (Rykard and Ranni), Radagon leaves Renala for Marika, who might have cut him from herself to serve some kind of purpose. Radagon is a little bit of a cuckoo himself.
I took the marraige to be more just a political one (although Renala really did deeply love Radagon). The golden order was already waging wars on multiple fronts and making an alliance with the nation of the continents most powerful scorcerers would be a lot better then making them into enamies.
Radagon maybe a Cuckoo. But Rennala is the Cuck
@@rwberger6 On the surface, yes. But Elden Ring/From Software is always deeper than surface level. Every move that Radagon/Marika makes counteracts one another other.
The child is from Radagon and Marika aka same person, that's why the parasite parallel, Rennala was just a host for Ranni hence why Ranni is Empyrean
Honestly, just how powerful were the Carian knights in their prime? Just 20 of them were able to halt the advance of the Golden host, and considering the ancient armaments we find in Altus, those fellas were a force to be reckoned.
Where is it that it's stated there's only 20?
@@UnholyWrath3277 I can't remember, but I'm sure of it. It's eitheir in the description of armour or their sword, or greatblade phalanx.
@@arktisch36 interesting I will re read some things
@@UnholyWrath3277 I found it, it's in Carian Knight's Sword description.
Technically it’s stated that there were LESS than 20
I like to believe it was 16 Carian Knights, this is because there are a total of 16 Crucible Knights in all of Elden Ring, and you can find and kill all of them, and considering how easy it is to parry the Crucible Knights, especially with Carian Retaliation, as well as stating that the Carian Knights were capable of matching the knights of the Golden Order, it would make for a nice story element that the Carian Knights were rivals to the Crucible Knights
Lamest knights? Man these lads are fly af
great vid
I have to simply agree with this statement.
Drip is good
But simply LOOKING good isn’t enough to excuse their horrible actions
@@logeyperogi1805 tbf, everyone has committed them, Ranni included. It's really a matter of what faction you prefer.
I think Caria didn't believe that the sorcery was through the moon, they still believed in the stars but only that the moon was equal to them. (Lazuli Conspectus/Glintstone Crown). This can be derived from what the twin Eternal Cities, Nokron & Nokstella, believed that the Darkmoon of Nokstella guided the countless stars within the very cosmos.
This also supports the theory that the moon in Elden Ring is another outer god. When the darkmoon of nokstella disappeared, Rennala encountered a moon when she was still an astrologer.
Where’d you get that lore from

Are you at all familiar with the graphic novel "A Game of You" from the Sandman comic book series? The main antagonist of that arc is known as The Cuckoo, a being that is fed by Changeling Fantasies within children who feel like they don't belong, and/or that they're meant for something greater. The sort of wishful thinking you might have had when you were 9 or 10 years old, half-promising yourself that when you turn 11, you'll get your Letter From Hogwarts, and you'll get whisked off to Your People, and away from The Mundane. I can't help but wonder that the people within the Cuckoo Knights are of a similar mind -- people with no talent for sorcery, yet wanting to be included by association, and thus "escape" the mundanity of their origins.
It could also be a case of a "double" betrayel when you think about it.
The Lucarian Academy and the Knights of Cuckoo remains me a lot of the European Nobles and Mercenary companie in the 1300-1500. Many Nobles would hire Mercenaries to wage their wars, and When the time for the payment came many didnt pay them, and ussually the Mercenaries would respond by ransacking their lands.
Either cause the Nobles thought their personal soldiers and Food Reserves would mantain them alive and didn't care for their peasents, or cause of a Noble's suicidal overconfidence, or in a very twisted way sometimes ransacking peasentes was the "PAYMENT" for the Mercenaries.
I think the Knights of Cuckoo were the Mercenaries the Academy used to overthrow the Carian Royal Family and conquer Lucaria, and their "payment" would have been to be elevated into Sorcerers. But the Academy, like European Nobles, simplyu refused to pay them, and now Lucaria is beiung ransacked by Cuckoo Knights, while the Academy holed themselves in their academy, either cause the Knights forced them into their castle or they think their food reserves will sustain them another century or two...
Interesting, I'm unfamiliar with the novel itself but I'll certainly look it up

Could we get a video talking about the banished knights and the veteran commanders if possible?
There is a few videos about both veteran commanders, I can link it if you want
@@kurrir1147 that would be great
Finally a reason to stop invading and watch something
Honestly I made sure my guy was decked out with literally every spell and then every incantation that is in the game I made sure I got them I took a break for a bit still taking that break but soon I'll go back I guess to get the last what two endings I think I have left? The dung eater and the basic ending those are the only two I have left then all I have to do is go for the other trophies for platinum
Do you guys think that the knights of the Cuckoosmight be a reference to the bird that drops items whenever we leave something at its nest in dark souls??
That bird is like a cuckoo and like shinny stuff like glinstone pebbles .
Them be crows
Damn good video
"Yo babe, go and make me a sandwich and milkshake real quick, Arlun Grim just posted a new lore vid"
Faux is pronounced Foe
You said cuckoo right, like “coo coo”
It was funny, my friend was going through the first time and he called them “cuck ooo” knights. We had a good laugh
I thought they were CUCK ooo as well :))
Coo coo isn't the correct way to say it though. Even Iji in game pronounces it CUCK-oo when talking about them
@@easyandy1337 you can look up the pronunciation if you would like. I’m not sure about Iji, if he says it like that then the voice actor mispronounced it. This is a real word, it isn’t a fantasy name that was made up for the game
@@easyandy1337 also I just listened to it again. He says it like “coo coo”. The actor is Welsh so he has an accent but he definitely says “coo coo”
I once saw a cuckoo knight use the flame of frenzy on me what’s up with that?
Those ones in the frenzy village were corrupted by the flame of frenzy involuntarily. Their minds were probably fried.
@@sirfijoe450 no this one was next to the church near the bridge
@@nonna0157odd, perhaps a glitch, or perhaps since you were somewhat close to the Frenzy Village he just spawned there
The Cuckoo Knights LOOK cool
That’s about all I give them, they LOOK cool
But in the end, they’re just a bunch of wannabe mercs, pay them the right price and they’ll be anyone’s war dog
And their jealousy of the Carian Knights is obvious, they don’t have magic swords, so they cover their basic swords in Glintstone, as if to say “Look! We have magic swords now too!”
Their half ass Glintblade Phalanx says it all, they wanted to be Carian Knights but despite their best efforts, they simply couldn’t do it, so they decided that if they couldn’t be Carian Knights and wield the mightiest sorceries, no one would
It would certainly explain why Moongrum stands guard outside of Raya Lucaria’s library, he’s either the last surviving Carian Knight, forced to stand guard, or he protects Rennala, as I have no doubt that the Cuckoo Knights still want her gone completely
Almost right! It's pronounced "cook-ooh", usually, rather than "coo coo".
Could be worse they could have called themself the dodo knights 😂
Most underrated Soulsborne Sekiro Ring (wtf do you call it???) Lore Channel on CZcams!
Soulsbornekiroringcore
Just call it soulsborne, you can explain it as "games born from Dark Souls", since all of them wouldn't have been possible without dark souls and demons souls. The "e" at the end is just for that ye olde english flavour.
Soulsborne Sekiro Ring sounds about right
