there are 3 very important games in history:
    1. Pole Position, because it was the first to give a proper F1 feel even if it was the 80s
    2. F1 Grand Prix 2 from micropose from 1995, which was a simulator, had all the cars and circuits very detailed
    3. Bizarre Creations F1 97 was the first proper F1 game on console, which had a simulation feel to it...
the best of them all without any doubt is Grand Prix 2, it was just a masterpiece for its time, it was written in assembly language for higher efficiency, if you don't know what assembly is... is basically a very low level language that takes a heck of long time to write on it, compared to other more modern languages, with the advantage of being the faster and lighter for the hardware, meaning even on primitive hardware from late 2000, the Grand Prix will run smoothly unlike the footage its show in here... where framerate is bad, i can ensure you... because i re-installed it on DOSbox recently that it runs very very well on any computer.
