    I usually recommend the 250-500CC Honda and Kawasaki ADV or enduro or whatever style street legal dirt bike to beginners and everyone in general honestly just because they're the most versatile and fun AND light as hell, usually easy to work on and parts are easy to find. Biggest obstacle is most of them are fairly tall but other than that nobody ever regrets buying one, they usually only ever regret selling them or just upgrade to a bigger ADV bike

    I wish Honda made a trail only version of this similar to the Kawasaki KLX 300R. If they took this platform and got rid of the street legal stuff and improved the suspension, it would be lighter and have the longer maintenance intervals with better suspension. Honda is holding onto the 250 trail bike, when it could easily upgrade it or at least offer an option like Kawasaki gave to the market. There are so many people that want a reliable trail bike. Not everyone races at a track in California, yet we don't want to bottom out over a root. KTM and Husky make a better woods bike that can lug and be snappy, but their maintenance schedule is that of a race bike and they are tall. Hell, even if Yamaha made a $6k reliable trail bike with good suspension that would be great. If they sold the WR250R for $7k, they could have traded the dual sport street legal stuff for better suspension and sold it for $6.5k. The WR250R weighed like 290lbs; I wonder if it were just a trail bike with better suspension if they could get it down to 250 lbs?

    I’ve not owned a motorcycle in years, but I’m considering one. I grew up with the Honda motosports from the ‘70’s. The SL’s and XR’s. At my age, I can’t afford to take a tumble, so my off road riding would just be putting around my land in the country. What I really need is the best dual sport that will run for an hour and fifteen minutes at 65mph, so that I can get to my place in the country. Would that 70 mile commute get old on this 300, or is it doable?

    27 HP. Same as 1962 305 Superhawk graduated to after the 1965 S-90.
    27 HP was Superbike territory then..especially because it put out reliably at max power over time... by then nuts, bolts and pieces invariably started falling off HDs and Brit bikes during those not to friendly races.

      I live in WA state and have ridden my CRF300L Rally on long trips and it works fine. It will do 80 to 85 mph on the flat but it can purr along at 65 mph all day just fine. It is a tall light bike so side winds are going to push you around a bit. I was able to hold it at 65 loaded with camping gear even going up some moderate hills. If you are looking for a supper comfortable bike to ride long distances this is not the bike but if you are a old guy of 72 years like me it works just fine because I take a lot of brakes so it works for me.

    I know for most of the rest of the world this might seem crazy, but living in rural Texas (not THAT far from Yammie) my first question of any motorcycle made for street use is: Can it easily cruise at 90-95mph (145-153kph) for hours and hours on end? If the answer is no, then it isnt usable on the highways here, and automatic pass.

    • @joelthemole3020
      @joelthemole3020 Před 2 lety

      @@Birdz_Hustle I mean, that isn't true everywhere, I just got back from Costa Rica and I never saw anything higher than 80KPH there, although a guide said some places it gets to 90KPH (about 56MPH). But here in rural Texas, if I can't cruise at 90MPH, and preferably have enough acceleration potential to left over to escape forward if needed, then even in the slow lane I am going to have lines of cars passing me. The slower I go, the more cars need to pass me, eventually one of those cars wont be paying attention and run me over, I call this freeway roulette.

      There’s some truth here for sure. I ride a 650L, but it’s tall and heavy, so was considering a 300L. This is one thing that keeps me hesitant. It’ll be lighter sure, but won’t have the legs like my 650 does when I need it.
