  • Alexis Mac Allister was one of Leo Messi’s greatest sidekicks during Argentina's march to World Cup victory. But before the Brighton player stepped up for his captain, it was Messi himself who was there for him. This is the story of Messi defending Mac Allister from being BULLIED.

Messi showed incredible leadership during the World Cup; this should lay to rest any doubts about this aspect of his marvellous game.

As an Argentinian supporter in Canada, even though we won it does not leave a good taste to hear Mac-Allister being put in an uncomfortable environment by his teammates. Most of the players who are guilty are from the Scaloni era so this level of racism will tarnish the legacy of this 3 year run.

@@Total_football_and_relationism They never intended to bully him, being Irish descendant has nothing to due with his nickname(Mac Allister starts running and his face turns red, that's all). Besides it was all in a friendly way, Mac Allister just didn't know how to tell them he didn't like the nickname. Almost everyone in the Scaloneta has nicknames (Emi Martinez- Dibu; Di Maria- Fideo, Montiel - Cachete or Cache, Lautaro - Lauta,etc...)

Messi understands more than anyone how important overall team spirit is and how much players can improve when they feel comfortable and play FOR the squad and not just with it, just like a certain Ronaldinho did for him when he was a teenager! Macallister was a beast in the WC and I guarantee this is the catalyst for that performance. Real GOATS make everyone around them better

Macallister teammates never had an issue with his hair color or his irish roots, not at all. They called him 'colo' in a purely friendly spirit. The vibes within this group of players were always very nice and friendly, and it's part of the reason why they won everything in the last year.

In argentinian society you get a nickname, everyone gets one, and some are hereditary, Maca's Father was the Colo before him so it was pretty much a given they would call him that.
My family has always been called the russians even tho we have german last names since we came to argentina from the volga region.
Even some names default to a nickname, thats why sometimes you might see the pope referred to as "pancho" since thats the default nickname for someone called Francisco.

neither do we! we love the Irish and I'm sure the players were just lightheartedly calling him ginger as its a very common thing to do in Argentina. Its very conmon to hear people who's nickname is based on physical appearance and ethnicity and it's mostly a playful friendly thing.

Argentines (specially the men) are a very playful teasing bunch. Its not uncommon for us to give people nicknames based on appearance, but its never intended to offend. I'm sure the players were just calling him "colo" for being the only redhead on the team, nothing to do with his Irish roots. Still, if he didn't like the nickname its great that Leo intervened and that goes to show what a great captain he is.

You people are crazy. In what way you can called him a leader? Is that because he won both the Copa and World Cup by leading as a captain ? That he has scored 7 goals in the WC , has played so nicely and magically ,stepped up to take every penalty , had scored many important goals as a captain and that he has won the golden ball?
If he is a leader or a captain every teammates should be afraid of him but he is so loved by them . This is not the quality of a leader.
These qualities are not good enough to call him as a good leader.
Now how can you called him a great leader? He never insulted his playmates.
Its final and lets end this topic. He simply lack leadership personality , all right?
He is not a leader but a miracle.
