    It's discouraging how the space-sim genre is simultaneously so barren and also so over-saturated with nebulous "Upcoming Future Early Access Alpha Proof-of-Concept" games that seemingly go nowhere.
    At least X4's upcoming 7.0 update is looking good from what I've seen from their beta-branch, and Everspace 2 is still receiving love from its development team.

    • @danilooliveira6580
      @danilooliveira6580 Před 27 dny +11

      I guess that is the problem, the genre is baren but with a lot of people that want something very specific from their dream space game, so they try to make their own. but they will always be niche, and there is no running from that.

      @@danilooliveira6580 I really miss the tight linear space games like some of the Wing Commander or Tachyon. As soon as I hear the word procedural, I get very sad.

    • @ThrobbGoblin
      @ThrobbGoblin Před 27 dny +5

      @@danilooliveira6580 I think a lot of these developers deliberately make their games even more niche just because they don't want to be compared to the Star Citizen- or at least what Star Citizen is supposedly going to be in a decade or two.
      Take Underspace for example, it's supposed to be a straightforward all-encompassing space game like Freelancer was back in the day... but someone decided that they should market their game as the "Giant Spooky Monsters In Space" game, which makes it feel 'different for the sake of being different'.

There's a pinned Tweet from them saying Early Access is about to come out... which is 24 months old. I hope I'm wrong as the game looks great, but they have shown themsleves repeatedly to not be credible. I'd be totally shocked at this point if this game ever comes out.

    I like how Elite Dangerous is the only one with uninspired ship explosions. Although, the most impressive explosion for a seemingly fusion reactor type of vehicle was Mech Assault on Xbox original lol. They'd go critical and you'd see rays of light coming out of the seams and cracks and a huge, orbed explosion resulted, which could make other nearby mechs go critical and explode and buildings crumble. Elite be like "crackle, snap...poof!" Not unlike Rice Crispies, or, okay...maybe more like shooting a steam engine train.

    Hum, i think the space game industry is stuck in a loop. Dogfights, trade, amassing wealth. For what reason ?
    And this is the point with all space games. Space is by default boring. Its emptiness.
    Developers need to fill this emptiness, with stories, content and adventure.

    I really prefer these games that incorporate HUD and UI, and where the instruments you see can be interacted with. Counter example: Starfield. Its instrument panels are for show only.

    Prospector at least looks somewhat interesting, but tbh im just disappointed at how unimaginative most these games are, i want more mining and trading sims. More games that are juts simple. Look at hardspace shipbreaker. Its a simple game with a simple premise but its sooooo good. You feeel like a salavge yard worker, pulling ships apart and making money. I want that but solar system scale at least

      As a team member with Impeller Studios, I would say our game "In The Black" is a good mix of the two. Think, Mechwarrior/X-Wing/The Expanse. Realistic physics, mixed with an arcade-like instant action and multiplayer loop.

      @@danilooliveira6580 No worries, we need more single player EVE games. :) I was keeping my fingers crossed for the "Limit Theory" game earlier; that would have been a perfect single player EVE game, but it was unfortunately abandoned due to the developers health problems.
