Tyler and I go through the process of changing this 2023 GasGas EX300 TPI motor to a carbureted version of itself. This is an extensive process and costs around 2 thousand dollars give or take. The main reason we did this was to make the most unique bike possible. GasGas (while owned by KTM) never had a carbureted 300 two stroke, so this is a unicorn of a bike in every way.
This is the biggest sweepstakes I have ever done. Every part of this GasGas has been upgraded. Tyler from @enduro_builds on IG built this beast. We spared no expense and will do a full video on the bike soon. It's the grand prize and there is over 25K into this bike not including any labor.
The runner up for the March Sweepstakes will get the 2023 Yamaha YZ450FX, which is a beast in its own right. What sort of world do we live in when a brand new 450 is the consolation prize?

You guys are amazing 🤩, good job @Tyler 👏
Great insight to what’s involved in this conversion👍
Something not mentioned is that the carb bikes have more hit overall. It’s pretty common knowledge that’s the tpi is a bit tame compared to the carb. A big deal for a lot of riders. Carb bikes are still more sought after in my opinion. Sweet bike!
So cool. Awesome job Tyler
This is such a cool build! I'm crossing my fingers for this one!
makes me happy i have 2019 TX300 w/ lectron, last year of carb 217lbs. beast mode
What a cool bike and build; you did an excellent job by on this. Someone is going to win this truly sweet bike. I would definitely ride it; that is what it is made for.
Got my fingers crossed for this
Gorgeous bike
150 hrs on a 2019 tpi and 150 hrs on my 22 tpi. Zero issues
Same
The tunability is reason enough to convert to carb. Being able to tune on the fly with a 3$ jet vs having to have a company give you some tune they made.
Smartcarb and Lectron don’t have jetting. That’s why I put a Smartcarb on my 97 YZ 285. Just has a metering rod inside and a lean / rich knob on top to make fine adjustments out on the trail or track 👍
@@stevedouglas1654 I never used the words smartcarb or Lectron. I actually wouldn’t have gone the route he did. I’d have gone with tried and true keihn
I HAD a 22 gasgas ec300. This would have saved that bike for me! I've had alot of bikes over the last 45 years, and I have to say, this was THE WORST running bike I've ever owned! FI has worked perfect on the 4st bikes, but not this one for me. I got maybe 10 good miles of riding out of it total. So, this carb conversion is not so out of the realm in the real world! I loved the way the bike looked, it just wouldn't run right to save its life.
Mark.
Isn't it easier and cheaper to buy a used 250sx, then add a 300 kit, an 300xc transmission and revalve the suspension?
Not really. Doing all that you mentioned would cost more than the carb conversion and you still wouldn't have estart, larger capacity tank and kickstand.
would it be cheaper to convert a tbi to carb
Absolutely wild build!
That being said, with the BRC throttle body available now, it would be a hard sell to go back to carb on these bikes, for more money.
That’s why you just get a beta 300rr for less 🤷♂️
If you wanted unique, why not take a yamaha and convert it to fuel injection and electric start? Converting this to carb is a waste.
Cool builds are never a waste dude personally Id never even consider building a ktm but I can appreciate the huge effort put into this
@@jacobbieler1876 its a 2018 xc300 hardly any effort needed to go buy a used bike and put kyb suspension on it. There also cooler and more unique suspensions out there also. Its a nice bike no doubt, buy he lost me at unique.
Where would you get fuel injection and e start for a YZ ? And I have a YZ285. C’mon man
@@billypulsipher1544 Dude this bike is new not used that's y it makes it unique watch full length video they did
Amen
Oh man this bike is sick😭
When do we get to see you ride the tm300?
I will take it when the time comes, thanks in advance.
Looks good but a bit silly build still.. Loosing some pounds but replace safari tank.. maybe next build convert husqvarna to steam engine? 😂😂
How does it run though? We all know Kyle preaches on fuel injecting changing the two strokes for the better.
If you are talking TPI vs stock Mikuni especially with the gasket failures, sure TPI all day long, but compared to a lectron or smart carb, I really don't see the advantage for an average rider or even amature racer. I hear the new TBI's can outperform the carbs (finally) but if you don't need the extra few HP's why take a hit on fuel capacity, weight and extra failure points? Kind of a moot point now that you don't have a choice if you want a new KTM family bike, but still. Is it worth $2k on top of buying a new bike ehh probably not for me, but if you blew an engine I would try to do this instead.
Hello,
What this all in $2000 to
Do the conversion?
update on Stark Varg . thanks
He did a QA a few weeks ago and it has been pushed back another year.
Needs more time for physics and technology to catch up to their promises.
I don't know if you seen it, but I asked a question on one of your older videos. It was a video of you putting on an O-ring chain. I put an O-ring chain on my bike and the first ride it did stretch quite a bit. Is that normal? Thanks
Did you change the sprockets? the new chain will stretch to the old sprockets.
@@billypulsipher1544 Yes both sprockets are new, actually got a Supersprox
and I mean it was the last ride before the end of the season, I rode it for the day and it stretched quite a bit, I just didn't know if it something to be concerned about when I take it out for the new season.
@@DevinDaye nope, thats normal, should hardly stretch from here on out
@@billypulsipher1544 awesome, good to know! thanks for getting back with me! your videos are very helpful!
Wow am I wrong ? Did your channel jump from 100k subs to 310k subs in a month? Congrats.
Does this carb need any adjustments for changes in elevation?
Is water wet?
Nope, I have that carb on my 19XC and ride from 2500 to 10500 ft without touching it.
@@bobelliott9790 It's all relative to how well the carb is tuned, like if the tune is biased already (running safely leaner at low elevation), the type of engine (air vs water cooled), and so many variables come into play when we look at anecdotes. The most important FACT is that neither Lectron or Smartcarb have published test data on their elevation change compensation claims. Another fact is both of them claim totally different methods of compensating for density altitude, yet they don't compare each other or have comparisons with tradition flat slide carbs.
Bob I believe you sir in your experience, please continue to give me a chance to explain. I have several years experience in engine calibration professionally, however I'm learning about carb stuff and I'm not better than you or anyone else who can make their bike go up a mountain without changing anything more than the air screw.
Density-Altitude accounts for all factors, where the engine "only cares about" Density-Altitude and is not affected by elevation change alone.
Here is a lemon vs lime argument because they're somewhat related, paramotors (powered paragliding) has been around for decades where the vast majority are 2-stroke engines, where the vast majority use a Walbro diaphragm carburetor, which is a staple in the high output commercial chainsaw market.
There exists anecdotal video evidence of many pilots taking 2 strokes well beyond 10,000 ft mean sea level, after taking off from near sea level. Does the Walbro compensate for elevation changes too?
It's possible, Mr. Elliot, that even though you've gone up in elevation, that weekends Density-Altitude may have skewed it to act as if it were at a lower elevation, the engine sees a lower elevation than you're GPS says.
What this means is, you would have to account for this when determining the conditions the carburetor is experiencing. Because the community doesn't mention density-altitude doesn't mean it doesn't exist or isn't relevant, it is most relevant. It goes much deeper also with intake temperature alone and how it impacts combustion and ignition timing.
I believe a properly tuned and consistent carb (like a Lectron) would perform well with elevation changes as Bobs experience seems to support.
In my opinion regarding gasgas, I'd much rather just spend less money on an older gasgas when they were the true brand and not just a red ktm. They were much better built in Spain and are simple being carb'd. Older models have absolutely bombproof motors and come factory with keihin carbs. My 2007 gasgas ec 250 supermoto is a beast and easily keeps up with newer ktm's ect... This is just my opinion and I'm not hating as I've owned newer bikes - I just prefer the simplicity and rigidity of older technology.
Have to admit that if I won the GasGas I think that it looks too nice to ride and would probably end up putting it in a museum.
If I win it, I'd want it to be in your museum too, so much so that'll I'll sell it to you for a good price.
Why not just use a lectron I have a 05 gg300 ex my son has a 21 ex 300 and we can’t get away from e/o speed for speed tank for tank and we did our test at Hatfield and McCoy trails full day rides
Why put the crummy small cap from tBi bikes on the radiator?
Changed to the new gen radiators. Prevents the notorious power valve puncture
@@tysonbrous5984 I was hoping it meant the older metal cap would fit the newer tank.
Hi there great channel your shop does not ship to the UK would love to win that bike
Owning as many TPIs as you both have had, how have you owned/ridden one long enough to say they are reliable in the long term?
420 hours on my 2022 GasGas ec250 with zero TPI issues.
I've owned 5 TPIs. 2 of them I took over 200hrs and all of them over 100hrs. My 2020 that I put over 200hrs on, I sold to my friend and it now has over 400hrs. I know others that have put hundreds of hours on them with little to no issues.
My new 22 te150i was extremely troublesome. Dealers couldn't get it running properly.
@@Dat_Sun My friends 22 XCW 150i has been the same way. It always runs but the amount of spooge coming out the silencer is amazing. Has never run clean like other TPI bikes I've seen.
@@christobey4198Mine was similar, it was shooting spooge out from the rubber exhaust coupler at 5 hours. Replaced it and the springs, made no difference. This made a mess of the engine every ride.
He might be the baby-daddy of this bike.
you don't have to change the whole electric system: there are other "hacky" cheaper ways to do it but you need a pretty good electrician to do it.
Instead of swapping the whole electrical system couldnt ya just run a regulator rectifier
Just think if an enduro 250/300 was offered by the Austria brand with a carb. Stock. For $9500. Course all the pundits will say but they can’t. Won’t pass “emission” laws for the European market. 😂
Man it hurt knowing that i can't win there bikes. Thats one of the many reasons why I hate living in South Africa.
You should have went with boyesen radvalve better performance than stock or vforce3 .
That petcock is annoyingly vulnerable. That needs to be more discreet/hidden.
Honestly most carb bikes have the petcock right there
Just get a carb bike lol too much effort for the conversion
TPI = more expensive...Turn TPI to carb = 2 grand... just buy a carb bike.
Es ist mir ein Rätsel warum man so viel Geld aus dem Fenster schmeisst um eine KTM/ Gas Gas auf den Stand eine Beta oder Sherco zu bringen.
need to get with Kaplan motorcycles on youtube -you do great work-he a gas gas dealer
This was not bike "work" or a "build". It's how to destroy a decent bike.
TM
Just buy a newer tbi bike.
Lol the Yamaha suckers just can’t handle how the euro bikes are sky rocketing above and beyond with two stroke technology and ride ability
Total bummer and waste of time so much better oil and fuel injected
Huge waste of money to prove, your another guy who cant TPI.
Which is odd because ive seen them bone stock with Hundreds of hours.
I don't get why KTM has an issue with their efi. Just copy an Arctic Cat, or Polaris battery less efi, or Ski-Doo direct injection. The Cat efi has been around for over 20 years. Hell, we've got factory 2 stroke turbos on Polaris, and Ski-Doo now!
I have a tpi ktm and I dont have problems with it 😂
Should I start commenting with a tally of how many times he says sweepstakes per video? Jesus H.
KTM bad, Beta awesome
