He just stands there hands in his pockets and absolutely delivers one of the greatest vocals in the history of music.
TristanandIsolt I totally agree with you! It doesn’t get any better than this guy.
,
thanks. I finally get a reply.
TristanandIsolt You’re so welcome, and so spot on! You deserve a positive comment!
TristanandIsolt Nobody else on the planet sings this song or any other better than Artie! ❤️ ❤️
He honestly looks like one of the dorkiest, goofiest, dudes on Earth just standing there belting it out with his hands in his pockets. And yet he delivers it absolutely PERFECTLY. It's pretty impressive to say the least.
The piano player really earned his paycheck that day, absolutely killer
The Infamous Richard Tee, as Paul Simon would refer to him. Sadly, he died of cancer in 1993 at the age of 49.
Yes i agree
@@MrHeadbanger366 why infamous
@@AA-sn9lz infamous can sometimes be used to express admiration
@@doodooboy3063 wouldn't infamous mean somebody unpopular? Like famously loathed??
No dancers, no show, no fancy clothing...just a microphone and a singer, I love it, wished I would have seen them live.
By "No fancy clothing" mention......
I presume you allude to the "Mutton Dressed As Lamb" performers we are are bombarded with today?
So true!
I love this song
I think it would've been fun if they had thrown in two lady dancers and musically gone full metallic, full volume. Just my bit.
And an outstanding gospel style piano.
Folks , you are watching one of the most talented vocalists to ever step on stage . Just my opinion.
A very good opinion too my friend. Tony in Portsmouth England
Tell me what your opinion is of john Farnham's version. czcams.com/video/Z7scTuXSYT4/video.html&ab_channel=GraehamGoble
If Art did nothing else , this vocal alone justifies his existence.
He wasn't a musician ,he wasn't a writer but he was an amazing singer.
Sean Snow of course he was a musician. One of the finest of the last century. The term musician does not belong to those who consider themselves instrumentalists. The fact he was one half of the finest music making duos in the history of modern memory in itself justifies his position as an outstanding musician let along a ‘musician’.
@@MrSeansnow "wasn't a Musician" He is, still, alive, you know. Good Grief. Besides; how do you know he does not play a Musical Instrument, in his Private Life, not that it matters, because, as mentioned, previously, on "Simon & Simon", Art Garfunkel, IS, a Musician. So, there, Hot Shot Sean Snow.
Spot on 🕊️💚
Craig G Thsnk you Craig. You took the words right out of my mouth!! Art is a musician in every sense of the word - not only the greatest singer I have ever heard but a meticulous producer of their records with precision & perfection. He has devoted his life to making his music (and S&G music) the best it can possibly be. Most people don’t realize how much effort Artie has put into the end result of their albums and brought us the beautiful harmonies we love so much. Thank you Artie!! ❤️❤️
One of the most beautiful songs that ever existed. Ever.
Agree. This song is perfection
tonicursio and ClassicRock4007. true indeed coz it was sang by Art Garfunkel!
A song so beautiful that you can listen to it over and over......as long as Art is singing it though!
His voice makes it even better
@@tuts351Yup! Like this tune was just written for his voice!!
He just sits there in his hoodie, hands on the keys, and absolutely delivers one of the greatest solo gospel piano accompaniments in the history of music. Richard Tee, we speak your name.

When a human voice becomes the most beautiful musical instrument.
but seriously can we give that pianist an award or something? he's amazing.
Yes absolutely brilliant
Richard Tee, one of my favorites
Oh yes yes Amen!
The piano player is great, but what an honor just sharing the stage with Garfunkel for this masterpiece.
Yes, sadly passed away July 1993, age 49, from prostate cancer.
Art Garfunkel...
One of the most under-rated (BADASS) singers of all time. Just listen to that voice.

"Underrated"? He's widely considered one of the greats.
I always believed it was Paul Simon who was underated at his time
Amazing! Can I give up more than one thumb?
Nailed it
Exactly a year ago I gave up. I decided to not live anymore at 22. One of the last songs I heard when I was waiting for my "happy ending" was this song. Happily, I had a bridge that day who saved me. A great great friend who stills being a bridge for me these days. Even if it stills tough sometimes, I am happy to be here and be able to continue listening to this masterpiece. I have a lovely family, lovely friends and I am trying to learn to live again and love life. Art, friends and family save me everyday. I am alive. I am here! I love being here!
I Hope you’re feeling better these days, March 2024. Sending hugs.
I hope you're doing well x I also decided to end everything in 1998 but failed and now I treasure every single day x. .

I’m 27 years old male and from England and I absolutely adore this song. I hope GENERATIONS to come do aswell!!!!!
Oh, they will…
I was at that concert. When he sang this song it was like being in the presence of an angel. The audience was hushed and recognized this was special. Simon and Garfunkel was a sound of its own.
My sentiments exactly. The voice of an angel
You were there??????? I bet that was really something and I am quite jealous. 😊 Can you tell us about the guy who rushed the stage during the johnny ace song? What was his deal?
Hi Lethia
I was at this concert too. I remember when that guy rushed the stage. It was right during the song about John Lennon. I don’t know if anybody know what that was about. But it was weird and you could see that Paul Dimin was a bit weirded out by it but anyway they got him off the stage pretty fast. That’s all I remember not much gel I guess to your question. It was so long ago. But it escalated great concert and I will never forget being there. PEACR
I was at their concert in Wellington, NZ February 1983. a calm summer night. When Art sang this, it was a huge sing-along by the crowd.
I'm jealous.❤
Can you imagine the pressure of singing such a technically difficult song in front of half a million people? And he does it perfectly.
WELL HE IS A PERFECTIONIST AFTER ALL, NOT TAKING ANYTHING AWAY FROM THIS MAGNIFICENT PERFORMANCE. JUST BRILLIANT.

For me, this is the greatest song ever written. I was 16 when I bought Simon and Garfunkel's greatest hits in 1974. After almost 50 years I still haven't found a song that surpasses this one. Just AWESOME!!
Indeed.
This is the greatest song ever written and sung by the greatest male singer of all times.

What words are there to express my wonder and delight as I watch Art sing this fabulous song?
Nothing better on CZcams!
Does anyone else agree that this was Art's best performance ever of this song?
I do.
Yes I've said that for years. Art's voice is utterly pitch perfect and sublime
@@liamfox3401 Paul wrote Bridge Over Troubled Water specifically for Art's voice.
Yes.
The best? Elvis’s performance was the best!
He doesn't oversell the song, he sings it perfectly, as it was written, and lets the song sell itself. It's so compelling.
Yes and he lets it build to the fabulous crescendo at the end. Bravo!
I totally agree with your comment, he really does let the song find its own force.🤗
Good point. He literally steps out of the limelight at the end, once his incredible contribution is finished.
He’s a very conscious performer. Why he made everything he’s ever made. He knows what he’s doing, always.
Everytime I listen to this, I cry. Everytime.
And he wasn't happy with his vocal performance this evening.... christ almighty... a performance that will live with me throughout my life and long after. Timeless.

Simon wrote it, only Garfunkel can sing it. A match made in heaven. Saw them live in Melbourne, still got it.
Damien Kennedy , phenomenal performance , but Elvis and Aretha did it fantastic. Actually Paul Simon said that Elvis version was the greatest performance of one of his songs.
Do they preform a lot still? I'd love to see them live.
@@Sarcastard24 , They do not. I believe around 2010 was their last performance together. They do not get along well. Paul Simon recently did his farewell tour, and since Art damaged his vocal chord back in 2010, he rarely if ever performs live. A phenomenal duo, who became the sound of a generation.
@@robmorrison1043 if I remember correctly it was paul who had a problem with art. I feel like it all started after bridge over troubled water.
@@Sarcastard24 Yes it was Paul who had the problem with Art and what a shame that had to happen but at least they left us with some of the best music ever written and sung by two of the best performers.
An open air venue, no ear monitors, no tech mixers, and maybe one feedback monitor...and just perfection of talent.
No one can ever sing this song the way Garfunkel did, and do it justice. Don’t even try.
No straining, no pushing, the voice just flows out. Stunning.
Yes well said natural and beautifull; today we have singers who cant even hold a note and the songs are meaningless bring back the good old days"

Art Garfunkel has the voice of an angel. This performance always moves me. No frills or complicated runs. Just pure straight up vocal mastery
I hate the frills and runs too of today's artists. Let's go back to no auto tune and composition mastery which we now lack in today's music.
@@TheCatnipCinema Unforunately that will never happen.
The simple fact is; Talent and originality don't make as much money as autotune and repetative lazyness.
Also, don't call modern singers "artists", they couldn't be further from...
@@experi-mentalproductions5358 I disagree. There is an art to modern music. It's just the art of making money rather than the art of making genuinely good music.
@@experi-mentalproductions5358 Och, don‘t be one of those small-minded „everything used to be better“-people. 🙂 Geez, 2000 years ago, probably even 30,000 years ago, the older generations would say stuff like: „everything used to be better…“
There are a lot of great singers today. Pink, OneRepublic (Ryan Tedder is amazing!), Lady Gaga (she‘d use autotune if it fits the song, just like you’d use the pedals of a piano), or Angus&Julia Jones, Pentatonix,… whatever, those are just my favourites today.
And in between the 60s and now, you got MeatLoaf, Guns‘n‘Roses, Aerosmith, Metallica, Nirvana, Alanis Morissette, ABBA, and a fuckload of other amazing singers and artists!

Thumbs Up If You Think Art Garfunkel Nailed This Song!
Grew up listening to their songs😊😊😊😊❤️❤️
My husband and I danced to this when I was 19 and we were dating.
I wish I could give 100 thumbs up 👍 his voice in my mind is just Pure I don't know of any other words to describe how my mind processes his voice. No joke I might have been a weird kid but I swear I felt something inexplicable as a 6 year old child in kindergarten when I heard his voice on this song in 1969 my parents had the album and I hope that you don't think I making this up Ms. Joan I'm not. I remember it like it was yesterday I would come home from school they were 1/2 days for Kindergarten in NY and in one swift motion as I walked through the front door drop my lunch box say hi to mom walk past the stereo in the living room snatch the Simon and Garfunkel LP and the CSNY LP continue straight down to the basement where I had an old hand me down Wooden RCA VICTROLA from the 40's that would shock the living heck out of me every time I placed the needle to the record but it was worth it ! So to make a long story short I would play those 2 albums over and over until I heard my father coming in from work when I had to take the records back to the stereo before dad saw had been taken the only had 4 Records so it Was obvious when they weren't there. I remember my teacher Mrs. Rosen sent me home with a letter to my parents saying That she was concerned that I was never going to amount to anything except a clown in the circus not in a funny way because I got my ass beat first then my parent went to school to speak to her about my unworthiness to the future society. still not joking all is true. It seems that she was quite upset that I wasn't able to give the correct answers to simple word spelling during the flash card segment of the day and when it was music time the entire class was made to stand choir style along to for instance Disney music like lavender blue dilly dilly only i would sing
Word for word Bridge over troubled water and Cecilia also Suite Judy Blue Eyes ! Regardless of what songs the rest of the class sang and it was disruptive ! True story BTW the teacher was tall skinny big nose and a thick German Accent! Of course when we got home I got the lecture but was spared a second beating and when my parents went in their bedroom and closed the door the whole neighborhood could hear them Laughing their ass' off

As of now, 20M people have watched an angel sing. How does one piano and one singer sound like a symphony?
A simple answer is skill and talent, but, there is also the point of not making yourself more important than the song. There is a version by 'Friends for Grenfell'; Grenfell Tower was a tower block in London that burned down. As a response to this a local choir and some professional singers recorded a version of Bridge over Troubled Waters. The local choir nailed it, but the professional singers ruined it as they were trying to out do each other (at one point it seemed to be a competition of who could put the most vibrato in their voice). These 'professional' singers put their egos before the song and ruined it; they should be made to watch this video until they learn their lesson!

He had a natural ability. x
@@BigBruno624 Something Paul later regretted. This song broke up Simon & Garfunkle...Paul did indeed say Art was the best for the song, then begrudged it the entire time. Ended up hating Art as this song marked their end, one tour with the song and they ended. Art was into making movies, Paul was more into liberal protesting. The beauty in this song hides the hate it was borne of, both in the underlying reason of the song (anti war, anti establishment) but also of Art. The first lines were written about Art neglecting Paul as Art was off making movies and Paul felt alone and rejected. The tears he speaks of were his, because of Art.
damn
we don't get magical moments like this. we just don't. maybe once in life if we are fortunate.
Listening in November 2023 doesn't get better than this. Absolute perfection.
And here stood a guy with his hands in his pockets. No electronics without fireworks without laser lights. Without grandiose decor, just stands and sings and shakes everyone who hears him with divine talent. Where is the music of the past ?????
It’s in the past... kinda obvious isn’t it
Dubilyoo....said it
This style of singing is making a comeback. Dimash Kudaibergen and So Hyang come to mind. The asian singers seem to have focused on what you are looking for.
Doode, all is gone buddy...now it's the time of cell phones, smart phones, shit phones
Shalom! You're right. The rest of the so-called music of today is schmaltz and waltz. The music of today follows a formula of faked emotion and pretense. The fireworks and laser lights are meant to impress;but it only deflects from the bad music.
How many people just got goose bumps listening to this masterpiece ?
I did and always have and always will (while I am still here, at least).
I know he went and taught Mathematics in the Northeast. I need to get in touch with him...need a tutor for Stats in college!!! However, I would rather listen to him sing.
I went from listening to a bunch of Aretha Franklin tunes to this one. I definitely got goosebumps.
Fantastic! Not a big Art fan until i saw this
I not only get goosebumps but I can shed tears listening to this epic song.
Surely Art was never better than that. Sheer magic.
Probably one of the Best Live Performances ever ……and I stand to be corrected
🙏🙏

I keep coming back to this. The greatest song that Paul Simon ever wrote. Whoever sang it, it would have been great, but you get Art Garfunkel producing his greatest ever vocal performance, and it elevates this song to a whole different level of greatness.
@@arabianknights7391 Paul Simon could sing wtf
@@arabianknights7391 paul is a good singer wtf
@@arabianknights7391 `Paul had the voice of a toad ‘ fella maybe you need to get your hearing sorted. I know ( another Paul ) McCartney did well with the frog chorus but what you’re saying is ludicrous lol.
@@dexterkaufmann9479 Not like Art in his prime something Paul did not like
Paul Simon is one of the brilliant song writer to ever write music.Sounds of Silence @bridge over troubled waters will remain forever master peace’s.No one does it better.
I have been listening to Simon and Garfunkel since I was a child, Art has such a beautiful and unique voice, which is further elevated when he sings with Paul. Paul is one of the most incredible song writers to ever live!
Paul Simon knows good singing when he hears it. He wrote this song and he was wise to give it to Art to sing. Nobody sings it better!
One of the most brilliant songs ever written. And yes, Art Garfunkel's voice was the perfect vehicle.
AMEN !!! LISTEN TO AARON NEVILLE SING IT !!! OH MY GOD !!!
I like how he pumps his fist at the end to show his emotion and celebrate a great performance.
In the early '90s, my father bought me a cassette tape of Simon & Garfunkel on his way home from work. There was a loud audio in the master bedroom, and my father and I turned off the lights in the room and listened to music together. At the time, I was in elementary school, but I was touched by it and thought I listened to very beautiful music. My father didn't say much, but it made me a very emotional and music lover. I would like to thank him for his wonderful music and say that he is now in heaven but I always love him.
This was my older sister's favorite songs. She raised me as her daughter. She passed away 1 year ago today. (March 25). I'm listening to it as a way to honor her memory. I Iove and miss you. Hug hug. Love, Honeybunch
Thanks for sharing. A beautiful way to honor her memory.

Simply one of the best songs ever written.
Depression is horrible. It’s a constant battle you can never seem to win. You have to find a way to stay here for those that love you.
I truly understand what you mean. I feel the same way every single day. It`s a daily battle, an every-moment battle... you're fine, two minutes later you are in hell... The good news is that there are some moments of solace and peace

Oh yes depression definitely is an uphill battle one minute it seems like we're on our way and know what to do the next minute the complete opposite. That being said I would love to share some wonderful comforting heartfelt information first of all I've lost many family members to death and I've learned that there's going to be a resurrection if you go to your Bible and read Daniel 12-2 those asleep in the dust of the earth will wake up. John 17:3 this means everlasting life they're coming to know you the only true God and the one whom you sent Jesus Christ. According to that we must come to know God and his son to gain everlasting life and the way to do that is read your Bible we have wonderful aids to help you understand your Bible. Ecclesiastes 1:4 the Earth remains forever. So no need to worry about it ever being destroyed Psalms 3:29 the righteous will possess the Earth and they will live forever on it. That one tells us what kind of people will live on the earth and for how long ,there's so many things to learn the Earth will become a paradise we will have eternity to learn and explore this world and who knows what else Jehovah God has in store for us for information go to jw.org.
Hi Sara! Yes, everyday is a struggle. I deal with a TBI, lost my right eye, involuntary movements..... @@sarabarnes4284 SO VERY HUMILIATING at times. The most simple of things are a struggle to accomplish each day. Some people can be so cruel..... I didn't ask for this injury. Don't need to be laughed at when I lose my thought process, forget that I am asking about...... have to start over............ STAY STRONG AND KNOW YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
Stan, I've roamed the Earth as an adult for the past 30 years I'd like to at least hope that I've picked up a bit of discernment and or wisdom along the way. I have dedicated the last 15 years to give back if you will being a veteran has given me opportunity to see these young men and women coming from a combat zone straight into o0 ppthe civilian world with very little time in which to readjust or adjust. The experience of seeing the Confusion, Depression , insecurities and of course trauma on a level that you would have to be there and experience it yourself to fully understand how derailing it is. Yes I can personally relate more in the area of Depression than trauma. The point Im trying to make is it moved me so much at the age of 50 went back to college on campus no internet! and learned how to help people with mental health problems and I can tell you even if one who is suffering from Depression or trauma or abuse was not caused by combat civilian or vet it is real and the way you described issue in comment was nothing short of Brilliant and Balls on accurate having spent the last 2 years getting my masters in human services and had always had PHD. Professors I am impressed by your authentic outlook on Depression. If your not working in the industry you should.
Listening in 2022; still gives me chills. One of my favorite songs. The humble bow just adds up to my admiration.
I keep listening and listening time flies , but this real music never will … and stay between us ever
So iconic voice of an angel still sends shivers up my spine, my all time fav song ever

The 70s music will put you on another planet that no one will understand unless you have a love of the 70s music. You don't need drugs or alcohol to appreciate the best music ever. God....take me back to the 70s and leave me there....I'll be just fine.
This song sounds like a wonderful message from God. Absolutely beautiful! No one could sing this song but Garfunkel.
As I said before, Garfunkel is recognized as one of the 100 best singers in the World Of a hundred he is listed as 87 if memory serves. In South Africa where I live, the TV would, towards the end of each year, ask which song is the best ever. BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER comes up every year.
God, his voice is as pure as fresh snow.
The "FRESHEST🌱🌱🌱" ever!
Art Garfunkel has the voice of an angel
He ils an Angel !
This is one of the best live vocals of any song ive ever listened to
One of the best songs ever. Arts performance is just amazing.

Those of us who experienced the sixties and seventies are truly the fortunate ones....
Amen
I’d include the 80’s too, was alive in the 80’s, but grew up in the 90’s... other than throwing in the 80’s (a personal preference, Ozzy Osbourne and other metal bands, Pink Floyd’s The Wall and so on) I totally agree!
Lmao the 80’s
I envy you guys. Haha the best for me was experiencing some years of the Last Greatest decade the 90s
anyone that has ears to listen to this is a fortunate one...
Best live solo performance of all time.
It could be. Michael Crawford singing O Holy Night rivals this.
Unchained melody is. Art comes in second. I have k. Rogers lady third. If anybody is keeping score out there. All 3 guys alone on stage armed with what God gave them. All 3 walked off with legendary performances. At least this social distancing crap has opened my eyes to some incredible art I wouldn't have the time to discover before.
Simon is a brilliant song writer, but without Garfunkel's voice there would not have been a Simon and Garfunkel. His exceptional voice is not only the landmark of Simon and Garfunkel, but in regard to songs written by other composers, such as All I know, Bright Eyes etc, merely underscores the fact that he .made Simon and Garfunkel.
Still one of the most beautiful songs ever made and mostly because of Mr. Garfunkel's beautiful voice
I totally agree! Actually I think it is the most beautiful!!!
Fantastic
His voice is like a soft blanket in the sea of clouds.

One of the greatest singer of all time with one of the greatest songs of all time.
One of the greatest songs of all time because it was sang by Art Garfunkel!
Sonny you get that combination and the only possible outcome is greatness.
Simon & Garfunkel are without a doubt one of the greatest singing and song writing duo's of all time, I feel so unlucky that my young self will never get to hear them in person. :(
I don't know if this is the greatest song ever composed, but it must be in with a shout.
