- From the very beginning, Rivers Cuomo and Weezer knew they were destined for greatness. But the road to get there wasn't always smooth. This is the story of how Weezer became one of the biggest bands in music.
I want to give a special shoutout to @MarcButEvil He's made some really great content (much more entertaining than this one) around Weezer if you want to dig deeper into the band. He even gets the names right.

Yes! That was a good overview of Columbia House. I'm loving your channel. The Velvet Underground episode was so good. ❤
Thank you so much!
it made me sad when rivers would shun "pinkerton" ....that is my favorite record......i'm glad they came back around to embrassing it
For a kid growing up at that time Columbia House was a gold mine. It was a clueless company with an awful business model that you could exploit repeatedly. I remember getting so many cassettes & CDs from them by applying multiple times. We moved around nyc so I could use a new address each time.
They'd send you 12 cassettes, & later CDs, for a penny with an agreement to buy 4 more from them at an inflated price, but no one ever did. 😂.
Left mid 80’s Arlington for San Diego? 🤣 that revolution summer era of the dc scene was huge in shaping the decades to follow.
I said that a little tongue in cheek since EVERYONE wants me to do a Fugazi video. A little inside joke
Also, ever thought about doing a video on the music of Jason Molina (Songs: Ohia, Magnolia Electric Co.)?
at 26:03 that is maya rudolph playing in the rentals :)
I don't know if you have ever heard of Vic Thrill, out of NYC. I would love to learn more about them if you ever thin it a fun video.
I went into this video thinking: "eh- I don't really care much for Weezer but I like this CZcams channel and I might as well learn a thing or two." Now I've already blasted and danced to the Blue Album so... I was wrong. Still not a total Weezer fan, or even a fan, but yeah- their music isn't bad. I feel like knowing the lore of a band often makes their music sound more impressive and phenomenal.
I love that! Thanks for checking out the video anyway!
Queens of the Stone Age 🙏
Completely skipped the Green album.
Tom O' Keefe sucks
