Love the fact that you don't just fix the problem and leave! You are very thorough and never do a job half way. Great person for all to learn from! Can't wait to watch more, thank you!
Good stuff bro. 24yrs in hvac and probably 5yrs low temp off and on so it’s always new when I get a service call or install (only 3 ) but very informative stuff these always kick my butt
I have a ? I had someone work on my walk in freezer they moved some wires around on the in side on the fans on the right side of it now every 13 days to the hour it turns the whole unit off an u flip the breaker off for 1 hour then turn the breaker back on an it will run just fine for 13 more days to the min what could this be thanks
Thank you for your time and energy. Between this video and your "WALK IN WIRING" you've turned what would otherwise be a foreign language into beautiful music. Thanks A Million
Good move taking the X-wire off the terminal block inside the defrost timer, even though the signal from the the 3-wire temperature sensor down in the evaporator was no longer coming back to the timer because on the 3-wire temperature sensor the contact switch points of "Common to the X-wire" were no longer closed, as they had been upon your arrival. That clearly was the issue since the evaporator was iced up which means that 3-wire temperature switch had to be defective from "common to the X-wire" switch contact points. When you went to the defrost timer after leaving the walk-in freezer and demonstrated the X-wire kicking the timer out of defrost mode, it was clear that the defrost termination sensor embedded in the evaporator was defective. The kicker was when the ohm check showed that the X-wire should have NOT been bringing the timer out of defrost due to the fact that the defrost termination sensor switch contacts had opened on the defrost termination contact points. Great job. Those intermittent defects can be tough to isolate.
Great video Dave, nice you take the time to explain things like defrost time clocks to the new guys starting out in the field. They appreciate it I am sure.
keep up the good work. Im learning a lot from your channel. I've only been in the trade 6 months. Just graduated tech school last Thursday. the company I got hired on at does restaurant repair and your videos boost my confidence when I'm out there working (I'm on call this week) thanks again and keep posting the great vids
You the man dude! I have learned so much in the past 7-9 months binging on your videos. Id kill for a chance to shadow you for a summer! If i didnt have 3 kids and a wife, id be there helping you for peanuts just to soak up the knowledge and chill vibes XD
Dave, This video was excellent! This video will be incorporated into my refrigeration service class here at Elgin Community College, Elgin, IL. A big shout out to you from the class! You and the other guys are making a huge difference in the turning out the next generation of techs that can troubleshoot systems as opposed to "hacks" who just change parts. Your videos are required watching for my refrigeration classes! You make a difference! Sleep well. Thanks, Woody
In 2017 when you post this video, im still going to HVAC school 😂😂😂. Now im 5 years into the trade, have learn alot from all of ur video. This one get me out of 4 days working on this walkin freezer
@@NorCal-refrigeration you make the next generation technician job alot easier with these educational video. I bet back in your time, u have to try to figure out yourself because there was no youtube lol
@@NorCal-refrigeration quick question sir, I i got 208V measure from X to N at all time on the defrost timer, even I disconnect the X wire and cap it off, Is that mean my defrost solenoid energize at all time = defective defrost timer??? Great explanation, and straight to the point, thanks for using the right terminology (DTFD), and hey, the explanation on the electrical diagram was a plus, I usually write the total amps pulled by the defrost and drain pan heater for future references, thanks for the great video!

Quote ""all this right here, this nice schematic, is this spaghetti right here"" very true, it's always a rat-nest/spaghetti wire. date on timer 18th July 2001 probably worn gears and bearings anyway, so even if the contacts looked ok, time to replace. you said the defrost ones were pitted and changing it anyway :)
Good video brother and good catch on the 3 wires klixon, also everytime I have an iced up coil and the defrost timer is found at the beginning of defrost the way you found it, I just replace it as well, several times I actually opened the time clock, just to find how the gears are worn and ready to fail. Greetings!
They are a southern staple!!! Boiled peanuts are awesome....some say they require a "required taste" but so does sushi!!! Maybe I can figure out a way to ship you some....when I was in twenty Nine Palms CA my dad would ship them to me!!!
It allllll makes great Since when you went between the time clock the schematic and the wiring on the evaporator selection…….What percentage of refrigeration units you come across actually have a schematic that matches the existing wiring to a great extent🤔???? Thank you for another banger of a vid!!!
Real good video for trouble solving..just want to know what is a rule of thumb... on how to check sh and sc ? Does 10, 20 and 30 still apply.out there? super heat psi at suction reading and out of evap temp? why do some people take reading at the evap inlet and outlet and adjust txv to get sh.... is this something new.. do I missing out there. or might have to re learn. Thanks
Pretty much any time these clocks start to hang up or lag, its time to change it out. You can make a mark with a Sharpie on the inner dial just to make sure its advancing. They like to hang up right at that defrost pin like this one did. Still like them better than the digital clocks, especially if they are mounted outdoors.
I have a contactor controlling the fans on the indoor. Won't pull in to bring on fans although coil is getting energised. It's not stuck and seems to be free moving and when I push it in manually it brings on the fans? Any ideas?
after watching this video yesterday guess what I had today. a broken wire that connects the time clock to the 4 terminal. it rubbed and burnt open from the fan housing.
I’ve got a walk in evaporator that has an old Ranco defrost termination and fan delay switch. Has adjustable cut in and cut out temp and the sensing bulb that runs through the coil. Can I replace that with the the three wire klixon type like the unit had in this video? In theory they do the same thing, but take temperature readings from different parts of the evaporator.
Just found this video Dave.....great training vid. one of your best in my opinion. Keep this stuff up. Very much appreciated sir.

it is wired wrong yellow x from timer is not connected to x on evaporator terminal board.
