For anyone wondering what Bono is saying at the beginning of this performance of WTSHNN he is quoting parts of the William Wordsworth poem 'Resolution and Independence' in remembrance of the then (Dec 89) recent death of Irish poet Sam Beckett. From Wordsworth Bono recites "his voice to me was like a stream Scarce heard; nor word from word could I divide; And the whole body of the Man did seem Like one whom I had met with in a dream" He then makes a reference to Beckett.
Joshua Tree Tour 1987 - Vorst National, Belgium. That version of WTSHNN is all about passion and the lads knew that. Watch the video or listen but either way you'll see four guys loving their job!
listening to this, reminded me of a live cassette boot I had in 1987 from a man with the name Healey in Oakland, of this Joshua Tree Tour, that I loaned to a girl I had a crush on in college. I never got the cassette back, but she did give me another live boot from San Francisco. Don't remember her. Don't remember the original boot, except that it was awesome. Like this.
Song beginning Bono recites Wordsworth then says "Sam Beckett dreamt of other roads. Sam Beckett dreamt of other lives, of another home, of another home... where the streets have no name.
Love this version, but my favorite is the Super Bowl with all the names of the victims of 9/11. U2 has the power to unify the world. Not only is it their best, it may be the best song ever made.
I totally agree with you... this is THE best live version ever (apart from the lack of Edge's guitar lol). Bono is singing for real. Thanks for posting this. Salute!
His voice to me was like a stream Scarce heard; nor word from world could I divide; And the whole body of the man did seem Like one whom I had met in a dream Sam Beckett dreamt of other roads Sam Beckett dreamt of other lands Of another home, of another home Where the streets have no name! Take me, TAKE ME!
This Streets version sounds to be from around the Love Town tour era circa 1989-90 which was after Rattle and Hum was released and just a year or so before they went on hiatus and recorded Aghtung Baby. U2 seemed to be at just about their top form around this time and were looking for a different direction musically.
I think the best version is the one from Slane Castle, but that is a great version too :) Where The Streets Have No Name is such a great song, It almost makes me cry every time I listen to it :.{
Nothing could be better than the Slane Castle version. Bono's father had died, it's no more a song, it's a testament, a final goodbye with so much love and so much pain like two hands joined together, it's a endless cry.
Trying to pick the best version is like trying to pick your favourite child...can be dangerous territory....lol Slane is definitely one of my favourites but so is their epic performance during the 911 tribute at Super Bowl 36
Ola k Ase para mi es la mejor voz de Bono. Fíjate el giro vocal que hace en el minuto 3,31; nunca lo había hecho antes ni lo ha repetido después. No se puede cantar mejor este himno.

This live version of “Streets” captures the very essence of U2 at the height of their game: pure euphoria!

The organ at the beginning is just so rich sounding-gives me chills every time
It's incredible that you've heard every single version of streets to determine that this is the best ever....
Rome, July, 15th 2017, will be the best version ever... I'll be there with my daughter...
Dave Bacco Rome 15

Sublime...

Sorry, Dublin Croke Park 1987 is the ultimate performance of this song
They look soooooo young in that photo. They were probably on the college circuit when that was taken.
tecums3h I think it was taken in 1979👍🏻👍🏻
@@LukeDHarrison2002December 1980: WTC New York.
Best version is Sun Devil stadium, Temple Arizona '87, and others from zoo tv tour.

U2 Lovetown Tour
1989-12-26: Point Depot - Dublin, Ireland
Does anyone know what exactly he is saying in the intro by any chance?
Check out the transcript above.
Who is this? Great cover
U2
Someone send me the words
I've placed a transcript of the spoken intro from Bono above.
What year
