How to open/disassemble a Conair/Babyliss iStubble beard trimmer

  • A quick video showing how to open a Conair/Babyliss iStubble beard trimmer e.g. to replace the batteries.
    The video shows the removal of essential screws, location of clips that hold the case together, and a little spring which you'll need to re-locate to re-assemble the Babyliss iStubble beard trimmer rather replacing the batteries.
    Apologies for the picture quality, I thought I'd do a quick video using my webcam for this, but this does mean the quality is a bit poor. Hopefully it helps someone get more life from their iStubble.
    Babyliss is owned by Conair, so you may see this as the Conair iStubble or Babyliss iStubble. Either way, it's a facial trimmer by Conair / Babyliss!

    Nice work. Thanks for making this video. I'm currently going through all my knackered rechargeable battery equipment. So far I've done the Braun Toothbrush, JCB Screwdriver, Worx 18v cordless drill (the hardest one to do), my electric Waterpik, and now the i-stubble. I think companies who make these products should be forced by Government to make it far easier for consumers to replace the NiMh batteries, otherwise a perfectly good product ends up as landfill.

      +Nippa DJ I'm doing the same. Toothbrushes, shavers, old mobile telephones. There's no reason other than planned obsolescence why with their form factor these items couldn't have been designed to take one easily replaceable lithium cylindrical eg an 18650.

    • @nippadj
      @nippadj Před 8 lety

      Frank E Davidson I agree. Unfortunately the i-stubble got the better of me, as even with the new batteries it was still not working properly. Same fault occurred. So I guess i just had a faulty circuit or a poorly manufactured one. Where the buttons would stick on, totally draining power every time. So I've binned that,and won't be buying it again..

      Ohh, yes I wouldn't recommend that... not sure I'd be keen on using it afterwards for others reasons too 😷 ... that said, it's always amazed me how resilient tech can be to water. Best to leave it to dry for a week or more before trying anything, as any moisture could short circuit and destroy components. Best of luck with the resuscitation!

  • @smithy7503

    Great video. I have the same model (7890) as well as the newer version (7898). The older version is by far a better trimmer in terms of trimming performance while the newer 7898 is quite useless for trimming my beard. However the newer 7898 has a charging cradle/stand (older version has no cradle/stand), higher capacity batteries, and a cool LCD display. I have worked out that the motor and actuator in the older version is the key to better trimming performance (more stroke allowing the blades to open up more and allowing my stubble to get in between the blades and make a cleaner cut each time). In the newer version they have cheapened the design by using a motor with a shorter stroke. As a result the newer version is almost useless as a trimmer. So my plan is to try and transplant the older motor into the newer version. Only problem is that they have changed the body design slightly to the point that your disassembly instructions do not apply. Question is have you ever tried to take apart the 7898 version. I have started but I am not confident enough to go any further. Any hints on the 7898 disassembly would be appreciated.

      I just put a little pressure on the battery and pulled while desoldering. There is some glue on either side you can chip away (do before desoldering) and a bit underneath. New batteries in place now and the shaver works like brand new.

    • @overlandadventurerdesigns6839
      @overlandadventurerdesigns6839 Před 3 lety

      The comb is held on by a screw at one end. This end looks just like the other except that the other end is a post that runs the length of the comb. You need to use two screwdrivers, one at each end, to remove the screw. Then you can push the post out the other end. It's a clumsy operation but simple.

      Hi, I was hoping someone might respond who could help, as I've not got a T29 myself. Doing a quick search, I didn't find one online. That said, you should be able to apply the same logic.. look for hidden screws, usually under stickers or rubber pads, and then carefully open the gap where the plastic joins are. If your T29 is completely broken you have nothing to lose. Just be careful, as it's easy to damage plastic, so watch for resistance to see where additional screws or clips are. Sorry I can't be of more assistance on this one.

    • @Artexic
      @Artexic  Před 7 lety

      Hi Paul, Worth a try definitely, though I can't be sure obviously.. It's a bit of a hassle to get that spring back in-place, but for something as simple as a failure to change lengths, making sure everything is seated correctly could well resolve it.
      Worth updating here if it fixes, so others know, in-case this is a common fault.

      Afraid I've not found any appliance they're not soldered into Woodeh06. Unless it has a cover designed for easy user access, they tend to solder them in-place. It's not a massive pain to remove so long as you have right kit! Appreciate it's probably not worth it financially... best to think of it environmentally and for the sense of achievement in fixing something!

    I made the mistake of attempting to clean the inside of the trimmer section of a Babyliss model similar to this (that's reasonable isn't it?). I thought it would be simple... I was wrong and now I have a beard. It really pisses me off when they sell these type of things and something as simple as a clean where elements are not designed to easily snap in and out. They do give you a tiny little brush though that might extend its longevity by about a few months.
    Also the battery life is complete shit on mine. The charge just withers after a couple of days even if it's not been used.
    P.s it was a gift, I intend to buy something a bit more... betterish.
