I’ve recently turned back to my Catholic roots after leaving the beloved Church for about 10yrs. Pray for me Father I still haven’t mustered the courage to go to mass. I went to my local Catholic Church the other day the doors were closed but I did the sign of the cross in Latin, and I praised God all mighty , I felt upset with myself, but I know that God Our Father has a plan for us all. I remember they kept the doors open back then since they have a Catholic school right next door and many stay at home moms,including my own, would go and pray and attend weekday mass. I plan on confession, marriage with my partner since we had a child out of wedlock and unfortunately this takes my passage rite from receiving the blessed sacrament of The Eucharist. I’m a sinner Father please pray for me. Please pray that I’m delivered form this evil which I have invited into my life by pushing Jesus Christ away and not inviting him into my life.

I’m a devote Catholic and I used to do overnight adoration from 1-3 am, once a week until the demand from my kids meant I had to move up my adoration hour up to an earlier time. My replacement, at 3 am, was our 30 yo parish priest…who would be tired but on time, in his clergy uniform, with his Bible and notebook…ready to go.
Someone mentioned that it is "all tax free"... Yeah, if you know the tax code, not only Catholic priests, but clergy in general are normally considered employees for income tax and self-employed for social security, and thus usually have a proportionally higher income tax bite than most people, despite usually earning less than 30k per year for Catholic priests. The value of the housing they receive is also charged as a income-taxable benefit against the clergy member. Indeed, the church itself does not pay property taxes nor income taxes as a 501C3, but that's a free speech/freedom of religion thing flowing from the Constitution. The economic benefits (not to mention the societal/social benefits) are easily multiple times what is 'lost' in not charging taxes to such organizations. If CPS spends more than $12k per student... imagine the 1k students from St. Pat's hitting the system... that alone is a $12m savings (and these kids can actually read!)
Sunday is a busy day for them. They have to say Mass often more than once and then evening Benediction and rosary. Sunday afternoon is usually for baptisms and between all this is they have to fit in the recitation of the Divine Office.
Fr., take this from a brother in Christ. You need to hit the gym and improve your diet. Your lack of physical fitness is limiting the ways and intensity with which you are able to serve Christ. Trust me, I know from experience. He should be the Lord of everything, including our physical fitness for His glory. Do it brother.

I’ve been working at home doing some renovations and when my friends ask I tell them it’s just me and Jesus doing some carpentry, but He hasn’t helped me measure anything yet as far as I can tell. Thanks for your service Father.
Its something new for me to see priests having the stole straight down when they wear a cingulum, I’m part of the evangelical Lutheran church of Sweden and if priests here are wearing a cingulum they are to have the stole crossed, in our tradition only bishops have their stole hanging straight. (I don’t know if I’m spelling cingulum right but you know the rope around the waist.
You write your homily the same day you preach it? I'm a convert so and have only been to one church regularly, so I dunno if this is the norm, but my priest only does a homily on Saturday night and Sunday, which is just the same homily recycled for all 3 masses. One of the reason week day masses are so much shorter is that not only is there no music, but there's no homily after the Gospel reading. so i kinda figured it was the norm to only do a different homily once a week, in which case i assumed the priest would work on that throughout the week. doing it all the same day sounds stressful even without other priestly duties
At our parish we preach everyday at every Mass and I spend the whole week preparing my Sunday homily, but it ends up getting written down sometime on Saturday. My daily Mass homilies are significantly shorter and I only spend my morning prayer time preparing for them but I use the whole week to prep for my Sunday homilies.

Genuine question, do priests get a day off? I’ve been seeing a lot of videos lately with priests showing some of their day to day responsibilities but have yet to see them mention times of rest.
Although I’m an atheist and think all catholic are very ignorant in their spiritual choices, putting it kindly, I do have respect for those who find this vocation through their God.

Priests are always on call also to go to the hospital and administer the last rights to the sick/dying.
