  • Salidummay is a folk song genre from the Northern Philippine highlands. Its music is characterized by the use of a pentatonic scale, duple/quadruple meter, and vernacular lyrics that come from older chants of the locale. One particular song, which Espino arranged here, became popular and representative of the region where the words to the refrain go: “Ay ay salidummay, salidummay diway” The origin and meaning of the word salidummay is unknown, but it is widely used to express feelings of joy, thanksgiving, and other positive themes. Typical instruments used to accompany the chant include bamboo wind instruments, gongs, and other bamboo pitched and unpitched percussion instruments.
Espino directs the performer to play with a "bouncy feel". The arrangement incorporates metric and rhythmic interplay between the two hands. The tonal center shifts between F and G pentatonic. There are several octave shifts and double-note slurs.
