I’m sad to see one of the best series on youtube end. Bjarne cinematography is movie production worthy. Cody’s storytelling in these episodes is very heartfelt. I’ve watched every 50 episode at least 5 times. You two are amazing❤️
Thank you so much man. 🙏
Your sentiments echoed by this Cdn ....total addiction ..Bjarne Cody and the many friends on the journey...(OMG)
well said!
@@CodyTownsend This series is at least half the reason I took a mountaineering semester. Thank you
The other half was equal parts to COVID cabin fever and learn to climb outdoors.
As a newish (last 3-4 years) backcountry skier I feel pretty confident that this series has saved lives. Modelling proper behavior is more powerful than we may give credit and you and Bjarne's consistent will to turn around and NOT ski the line when it's not appropriate (Mt Superior, Split, many others) is strong antidote to summit fever and the near ubiquitous attitude to "just send it". Thanks for the show of strength and humility.
This is the best comment. Turning back is always an option and I love that this channel shows that. I have also turned back on Mt. Superior :)
Strongly agree with your sentiments....Cody trust his intuition as well as being safety minded the entire time he is mountaineering....
@@michaelyoung3337 I know they should have turned back before they even started the project
Very good points.
Cody, Bjarne, it's been a privilege.
Yeah the pics have been stunning, but what captured me was your sense of appreciation for and humility in the mountains.
Thanks for bringing us along for the ride.
My gut is that they’re doing full length movies for the last lines! 🤞
Yeah, or including the last 4 into one epic film serving as an homage to the whole project, which hopefully wins all sorts of film festival awards. That'd be sweet.
That would be amazing!
Hope you are correct - 3 episodes for season 5 seems like perhaps the money ran out??? All of us go back and like and share every video, subscribe if you aren’t, eyeballs equal dollars and this sort of stuff needs a lot of eyeballs!!
@@houstonbuffalo4514 I don't think that's it, I think it's more that the last 4 lines are all so serious and so weather dependent that they didn't want the requirement of making episodes to lead them into a sense that they had to keep trying every year. Hopefully, we'll all watch Cody finally get Comstock and St. Elias someday, and maybe he'll manage to ski Robson and University. But I assume he wants to abandon the burden of making it part of the series and just try to ski them if and when he can. Like he said, though, it's not the end of the project, just the end of regular episodes. I think it'll be all the more amazing when we see him crush one of those four lines when it randomly drops in 3, 4, or 5 years!
@jakecohen5739 yeah seems like a story they've chosen not to tell. I respect that, maybe a project like this is always destined to end this way. Or maybe there will be a mind blowing comeback in a years time. If so, I'll be waiting to watch. Been great having this project over the years to follow.
I think my favorite part of the whole series has been getting to know Bjarne Salen. The lines, the friends, the epicness, everything else about this project is almost beyond description. And yet, getting to know the guy behind the lens for so much of it, the guy who's been there with Cody the whole time, with his extra dry sense of humor, has been the most rewarding to me. It hasn't just been Cody's project to me, it's been Cody and Bjarne's project. Its only fitting the last shot of this episode is a hug between you two! Thanks so much for everything over the past five years, fellas. It's been an amazing show!!
Thank you - Bjarne & Cody... beautiful locations, amazing cinematography & stories..Safe journeys..God bless..
I think eventually this series will come to be regarded as one of the most important chronicles of skiing that exists. As poor as the conditions may have been for some of the descents, it very well might be the best footage we will ever see of those routes.
Can’t wait to watch what you both create next, there’s no better outdoor team on the planet in my estimation.
What an incredible ride it’s been. You pulled me and probably millions of other people deeper into the mountains and deeper into community with this series. Wopila kola. Hecetu yelo.
One of the best things of this entire project was meeting you buddy. Thank you.
It’s been an amazing series and I look forward to seeing when productions for the last 4 find their way onto the interwebs in coming years. Thank you for bringing us along in the journey. I always thank the mountain for passage now because of this series. It’s a beautiful way to respect our world.
Congrats to you and Bjarne! It was a treat getting to ski 1 of the 50’s with both of you and you will always be my favourite colleague!
Double back flip in the house!
This has been my favorite series of ski-related videos. Period. Full stop.
The touring & skiing notwithstanding, it has been the human factor which has been the best part.
The preparation, the openness regarding the challanges, the willingness to accept that Nature dictates & man humbly concedes, Cody's goofy humor & Bjorne's dry wit playing off each other, the various characters that have accompanied them all came together to result in an incredible series.
But what I most liked was Cody's willingness to make Bjorne an equal.partner on this adventure, even as he was the "face" of the project. His respect for Bjorne is evident.
Gentlemen, I hope you will bring us more epic content in the near future. Meanwhile, I guess we'll have to rewaych The Fifty all over again!
Peace!
Thank you, Cody Townsend and Bjarne Salen.
My most anticipated video so far, looks like it might be the last episode? Pretty sure he flew out to Mt Saint-Elias last season but maybe wasn't worth putting an ep together for it... Going to miss the series, it brings joy, one of the best on YT. My ideal scenario is Cody and Bjarne make their own fifty best lines they want to ski in North America and go get them. As someone that has never been there, I love seeing the scenery, travelling and cool mountains over there. The first two seasons were great as there was an episode every week or so. It would be cool if they went back to doing more lines per season, Cody is great at telling a story so I wouldn't care if the lines are super easy and not spectacular.
First off, thank you for the kind words. So appreciated. While I would love to be producing weekly episodes like we did in year one, I can tell you there is no way I could handle that workload again. It was the single most stressful, difficult and exhausting year of my life. Bjarne and I lived on the road for 5 months straight, were simultaneously publishing, editing and making episodes on top of each other. I almost burned myself out entirely after one year of it...plus now, I have a son added into life. So the focus moving forward will still be adventuring, skiing and making films, but just focused more on quality as opposed to quantity. Thank you.
So every 2 weeks then👍😂😂
@@CodyTownsend - These types of choices are what I've appreciated most about the overall 50 project. The times you and Bjarne agonize over pushing the last 100ft to reach the summit vs turning back to go home safe, and now, choosing to say, "No" because life isn't feeding the CZcams Audrey Jr (Little Shop of Horrors). The heart expressed throughout as you grapple with growing into new responsibilities and priorities really resonates with me as an adventurer, and something that's lost on the the vast majority of content consumers. I'm excited that you're stepping back while you're ahead, and choosing a life that keeps you and your family team stoked on the encompassing totality of life's abundance! Look forward to what's next, and thankfully for how much you've given already.
@@CodyTownsend Thanks for your reply, all the best for your future adventures, and looking forward to more content in the future! Great episode, again!
@@jldickerson3 This 100% ! Couldn't say it better so I'll jump on in with your good words here 🤙
THIS is why CZcams is amazing. We get to see productions that would not ever hit the airwaves.
Thanks for taking us on the ride(s), Cody & Team!
Best CZcams series EVER. CODY & Bjorne, you are right up there with the best and everything you’ve shared. It’s been a privilege to watch you grow. Love backcountry skiing, love and respect mountains …
"Never call last episode - two more, skip the second"
So bummed! One of the most genuine and refreshing ski mountaineering adventure shows on CZcams. The places you took us and the people we met along the way. Brilliant! Thank you Cody & Bjarne.
I've loved every minute of this series. You and Bjarne could film The Fifty Classic Bunny Slopes of North America and I'd watch it. The fun of the series isn't in the finishing of the Classic Lines project, its in the storytelling of the lines that you got to ski and the stunning visuals that you captured. Thank you for all of it.
Thanks Cody & Bjarne for showing us how to dream big and sharing the lessons you've learned along the way 💙
Our pleasure!
Proud of you, Cody. When we interviewed you at SIA after your line of the year, you were already a badass skier. Now you’re a badass human. Keep reminding us how to stay curious, adventurous, and humble.
As a dad I knew when the kid showed up this show was down for the count. Thanks for the rides and the vibes.
Absolute magic. Thanks so much for sharing - it's been a joy following the entire series, and I hope we see more!
Ya’ll started this adventure right as I was teaching my 6 y/o how to ski. Together he and I have watched every one of the episodes. And the intervening 5 years skiing at Taos has made him a fair little ripper, for a kid that lives in Oklahoma anyway. On more than one occasion, especially early on, he say thing to the effect of “I feel like Cody” and then put his hands in the air and hoot. Thanks.
I am a snowboarder, and this skiing project has been one of my favorite things over the last few years. Thanks for sharing 🤙
Great to hear!
been wondering what was up, with both Cody (and M. Wirth)...$-backing prob!? soooooo awesome to have Cody and Crew come thru for a cryptic "final" episode! I've turned dozens of friends onto this Channel and I'm sure, we'll all stay tuned as long as Cody and Bjarne keeps their ski's tuned, too!
I have watched every single episode. You guys are legends.
Thank you Frederic
Man, to be honest I had more hope for "still making episodes, but abandoning the fifty," than "still skiing the lines, but done making episodes." But I'm happy they're doing what's good for them, so congratulations!
Just stay tuned, there will be more to come.
Did this line last saturday. An absolute beast!
Cody and Bjarne, this has been my favorite “tv show” since its inception. Mountains, friends, tough times and good ones, personal growth, it had it all. This is what “reality tv” should be. Thanks for taking us along on the ride.
Your first touring experience 20 years ago is so similar to my first touring experience a few years prior to yours.
The fun, passion, inexperience, and bravado of youth,... and the stupidity, ignorance, and sheer luck.
Being amongst it hooked me, and I've been learning ever since. Dropped out of touring because of a few hard losses; I wasn't involved, but lost several good friends in several incidences. Days when I was "Mr. Safety" and decided it wasn't my day to go out for a walk, and both the relief and the guilt were crushing.
Eventually got back into touring, after a while.
To paraphrase conversations I've had with MikeD, skiing is not worth dying for.
And I'm still here doing it, and a mix of touring and resort is something I'm going to do, to continue to do, for as long as I possibly can.
Thank you Cody and Bjarne. It's been a trip.
Right on Cody and Bjarne!
Thank you Cody and Bjarne. This series has been by far the best to watch on CZcams for the last couple of years. You boys took many of us through the pandemic years and kept things about mountains, how to safely plan and execute back country missions without the moral grandstanding the way other big named mountain outfits I won’t name spend half a video on. You introduced us to your tech stack, your kit, your planning approach, your backcountryX files with your routes, and the video quality has been amazing. You both deserve big awards for this. Really very well done! Thank you, it had meant a lot
Thanks for sharing your adventures! Hope see more in the future from you guys! Great stuff for friends of cross country skiing & adventures. 😎👏👍
Thank you Cody and Bjarne for all the Beautiful videos !!!
Move to Mammoth in 92, did Bloody twice in 94 and 98.
At 65 years old still getting out on my splitboard.
Good Luck on the other 4, Safe Travels !!!
Thank you Cody and Bjarne and friends. We will all miss these amazing videos. I’ve watched them all. They continue to inspire and motivate me. I wish you all the best.
The sheer authenticity, intelligence, connection and wonderful vistas of this series is what made "The Fifty" so special for me. Cody and Bjarne, thanks SO much for taking us on a truly unique journey - and I use "journey" in EVERY sense of that word.
The lessons we've learnt, the excitement we've shared with your achievements along the way and even a few of the tears I'm sure a few of us have shed at a couple of moments reflecting on friends lost....it's been incredible!
I look forward to seeing what's next, but in the meantime, enjoy that family time, enjoy those runs WITHOUT a camera tracking your every move and above all, continue to enjoy life and stay safe! 🙏
It has been such a pleasure to be taken along on this journey. To see first hand what it takes to pull these descents off, the planning, the humility, the guts, the respect for the mountains. And the story telling, such great story telling. It has made me a better back country skier and all of us better humans. Thank you, can't wait to see what comes next!
Ehh congrats Cody! I’ve been watching this for years and rewatch it every single year! Hoping to see the St Elias line done but I’d rather see you live a great life than risk it for that. What a series this is
Love the Peak skis, I love mine and great to see more and more of them out there
Hoping that you and Bjarne find another project soon. CZcams won't be the same without you!
Bravo! Thanks for taking us along- every one
I'll keep watching everything you do Cody. You're such an inspiration to us all. I'm old, 63, and you help me get out and live my life. Thank you for all you do. I hope you do get the last 4 lines, but even if you don't, whatever you do, safe travels!
Thanks Michael. That's really amazing to hear. Thank you.
@@CodyTownsendmichael - just for the record: i'm 63, but i'm not old in any way.
As amazing as the lines were, for me the most inspiring thing about this series has been the teamwork and mutual respect between Cody and Bjarne.
Awesome series loved living vicariously through others and seeing some amazing lines and skiing from my desk in the UK.
So sad this is over, can't wait for what is coming next.
I love you both. ❤
Loved this series. Thank you so much for creating it.
Great final episode, emphasizes what it's really all about. My favorite bit from the various episodes? Bad sandwiches followed by the dual skins on straight line challenge! 😁
Cheers 🍻
A fine way to end one journey and begin another, whatever it may be.
Damn I can't believe it's been 5 years. I started watching this when I started Skiing and working in a ski shop. I've lived every episode.
You represent the Soul of skiing…
They say that you should never meet your heroes but I like to think of Cody and Bjarne as homies I haven't met yet. Since leaving the mountains a few years ago, this channel has kept me feeling involved and I will always cherish that. Thanks guys ❤
I like that. Thanks
Cody, you're a legend. Thanks for years of epic storytelling! I hope you do finish all 50 lines. Cheers, brother, and buenas noches!
Thanks guys, loved every episode, job well done. Looking forward to your next adventures, be SAFE.
I may have shed a tiny tear with this series ending. Its been amazing to come along on your adventures, and inspiring for my own adventures.
You and me both. I got a little choked up watching the end for the first time. Thank you Jon.
Sad this is the last one, but what a ride. Thanks Cody / Bjarne. Its been one hell of a ride (watching). kia kaha.
Thanks Cody. I'm just barely into my backcountry journey, but it's inspiring to see you grow, and to experience adventure in a whole new way, and learn new things (like caring for blisters).
OMG so many Tahoe legends, my heart is so happy!
Cody is the man.Thoroughly enjoyed this series.I lived in Mammoth Lakes for 10 years. With friends skied Bloody Mt. twice.Back in the early '80's.On metal edge Telemark skiis,3-pin bindings, and leather boots. There's nothing like being in the mountains, and backcountry skiing.
Sad it is ending but happy to be able to experience a small part of it through the amazing videos with unmatched storytelling and cinematography. Wish you both the best and am excited for what the next chapter brings you guys.
I so look forward to more of your adventures, be it 'The 50' or something else. Thanks for all the great stoke!
A long strange trip. Thanks for bringing us along.
Josh and drew are two of the nicest people i have gotten to meet in the ski industry.. Great guys with a great attitude on life!
Thanks Cody and Bjarne for the privilege of bringing us along for the ride, truly enjoyed it over the years. Peace out
Sick to see Josh out with you! I have been loving his channel, he's been putting out some fucking awesome content recently!!!
I lived in Mammoth from 93-97, Sherwins and Bloody were the first backcountry trips I ever did, great memories!
Thank you for this series, its been a much watch when a new episode is released, given me so much joy!
Thanks for sharing the joy 🎉
Hope to see you sooner then later :) Thank you for giving us a front row seat to your adventure. Cheers!
Loved every episode thanks buddy.
Well congrats to almost completing this 50 project & having started on another one: Fatherhood. Your son & you will be spending a lot of precious moment together in the next decade to come. Just remember he will grow up so fast in a blink of an eye & you will be missing it more than the mountain fomo in the meantime. Enjoy your next life journey & we look forward seeing to you, Elise, & your son doing some family ski mountaineering together in about 15 years or so!!!
Camped in that spot many times. Great place to start.
It's sad to see this come to an end. What an amazing journey it's been to follow--we've also learned a ton, been inspired, had fear instilled in us, and joy outpoured. We'll miss you guys!!
thanks for all the great stories
As a snowboarder this has been one of my favourite channels to watch on CZcams. Very sad to see the 'finish' and I have enjoyed every video from the first to whatever comes next on the channel, thanks for allowing us along with you both on these adventures.
Been loving watching these over the years.
Congrats on what you've done so far, for the growth of the channel, and thanks for the great entertainment! I came in somewhere in the first 5, and watching you and Bjarne's journey on the 50 has been really enjoyable. I'll probably never do any of the 50, but your videos inspire me to get out and go on adventures. I very much hope we get to see the rest of the 50, whenever that happens. And I'd also love to see other non-50 adventures, gear talk, etc., you guys have a great video style.
I enjoyed every second of this adventure! Cody and Bjarne are such a good backcountry team, hope they continue to film together over the coming years. Thanks to them for showing the world how to safely get after it!
I have enjoyed every moment you have shared with us
Thank you so much for all of the years worth of inspiration and stoke Cody and Bjarne!
I had always wanted to get into backcountry skiing but was very intimated and none of my friends were into it.
This series gave me the confidence to just go for it and sign up for an Avy 1 by myself. I now have a buddy I recruited and we've done ~10 tours together. This show 100% gave me the push to do it, and now I have something I can pursue for a lifetime. Gracias 🙏
@cody I hope life is treating you kindly. I hope you are okay with what’s happening. You have some lovely people around you.
Thank you for bringing some smiles and escapism to me in England. I’m sure you will continue to do so, somehow, if that is your wish.
Ride on cowboy. ❤
Thank you. This has been a joy and inspiration. I will never be at your level but the reasons and comradeship of your adventures ring so true. I hope and wish to have some of my own adventures soon.
Such a great series. One of the few I follow on YT.
A sad day. We always knew it was coming. But I’ll miss this. A lot. An incredible journey and adventure to be taken on that I, and many others, will otherwise never get the chance to undertake. Thanks @CodyTownsend and team for the ride over the past 4-5 years. Legends! 🙏🏼
Thank you Thank you so great so cool yet at the same time the best of humanity.
Thanks for sharing the experience, great watching you guys!
Whoa, easy on the Day Wreckers, fella! Those Alpine Trekkers got you into the backcountry in the first place. You should be calling them Life Makers! Joking aside (April Fool), great series. So refreshing to see what's really behind skiing big lines, not just the glamorous part. Happy parenting to you and Elyse. The greatest adventure of them all!
Love you guys. Thank you so much for doing what you do.
This series has been so inspiring. Thanks, Cody!
Thank you so much , Cody and Bjarne!!
This has been a great series - thanks and good luck with future adventures
Thank you for everything!
The Fifty is one of the most epic journey ever. This entire series has been an inspiration and has redefined to me what an adventure should be. Will keep tuning in and rewatching those epic lines and fun times!
What a great way to celebrate all this 50 project highlights.
Ive been along for the ride since day 1 and have loved every second of it. Thank you so much for sharing the knowledge , skills, learning and resources required to safely enjoy time in the back county. Also for including us through the suffering, joy, friends and family, natures beauty as well as being your authentic , funny grounded selves. 🤙
it's been a blast watching.thank you !
@CodyTownsend Just wanted to say thank you for such a wonderful series. I believe that you've captured a lot of the spirit of "old-school" adventuring. Do hope to see more adventures in the future. Stay safe, enjoy the family and friends, and continue having fun sliding around on snow.
Such a great adventure - thanks for bringing us along with you
very sad to see this series end, but glad to have experienced it. Looking forward to whatever ends up happening in the future.
And thank you
Thank you both for providing and lots of great entertainment and inspiration as always excited to see a new episode drop thanks
