      my main concern with this being so new and from a smaller manufacturer as well as an esoteric pistol is reliability. most of the reviews at psa mention some issues. i suspect the ruger is more reliable, but that this will improve over time of course.
      big pros for the ruger 57: it looks cooler (in my book), i can get one at academy today (albeit for 729), more proven reliability
      Big pros for this: cheaper, 23 round mag
      One thing is PSA advertises 499 bigly, but the real price imo is 570 because for a tank like this the optics ready version is mandatory IMO. So at that point the price gap to the Ruger closes greatly, as online the Ruger can be had for 640 and less it appears (~640 is the Buds Gun Shop price, which is usually a little higher than other bargain dweller shops online). At that point given everything (mostly the looks preference for me) I lean to the Ruger. Sure wish it held more rounds though, a big 9 can get close to 20....

      I am a CZ fanboy for sure but I support all firearm manufacturers. I have 5 builds from Palmetto and none have ever malfunctioned. They were cheap, they were effective. I personally don't own any of their pistols but for everyone I know that has them (about 6 people) they have been more than pleased with them. I understand if a company isn't for you, but in this day in age, we 2A supporters are all brothers and sisters with the same cause. No matter what you carry or what rifle you have, I'm more than happy to have you by my side 🤙
      As for my 5 AR palmetto builds, they held up just as well as my FN AR. Finish is no where near as good but for a throw around, it is more than enough. Stay safe my brothers and sisters -Molon Labe

    I fell in love with this gun as soon as It premiered at shot show. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. When I got mine in, I just loved everything it had to offer. I was able to buy 300rds at $39.99 a box which was the American Eagle. Now I do understand that all the testing that was done by PSA they used the (FN 5.7x28 FMJ) ammo. So I was a little Leary about using Federals ammo and it performing in this platform, but the Rock ran it and made me feel way more confident that this gun would be reliable in a self defense scenario. Thus far I have ran 200rds of ammo through mine without any issue. So I’m willing to say I am completely confident in trusting this gun to do what I need it to do.

I swapped out the sights for Glock suppressor height night sights, I'm glad they went with the Glock sights because there's nothing aftermarket-wise for the Rock. A lot of people said that the Rock will fit in a Ruger holster but it doesn't. Just an FYI for anyone looking for lights for it, the Olight Baldr Pro will not fit correctly on the gun. I like the 22TCM, although the ballistics are not better than the 5.7x28 Ballistics w/ equivalent barrel lengths. 22Tcm is no slouch, and comes close. However, does not beat the 5.7; even w/ heavier bullet weights TCM is still not outperforming the 5.7 in terms of velocity; and certainly not in lighter weights. Additionally, You speak of reloading, if you are new to reloading stay away from reloading the 5.7, mistakes w/ reloading this caliber can lead to a Bad Day real fast.

      @@evonpaige8873 The .22 TCM is definitely inferior to 5.7x28 when it comes to sectional density. You simply cannot use bullets as long in the .22 TCM, due to what sort of grip it's designed for, the cartridge profile, which makes its aerodynamics inferior.

    Pros: Finally an affordable way to get into the world of 5,7 caliber
    Cons: It should be more modular, accepting also suppressors and stocks etc.
    Biggest nuisance at the moment is the magazines, all 3 pistols has their own, but as far as I know only FN has extended mags, it would be better for the manufacturers themselves if everyone used the same magazines.
    MPA57 uses also fn mags, so I think it would be best if everyone just used that model, as it has obvious advantages over the others.

    I’ve never been a huge fan of 5.7 for defensive use, but one can think that, and find the caliber to be interesting and enjoy others enjoying it.
    If we all liked the same things, life would be boring.

    • @DaveSmith-cp5kj
      @DaveSmith-cp5kj Před 2 lety +3

      The only issue with 5.7 is that it has a lot of flash and noise. Other than that it is a better defensive caliber than 9mm as you get lower recoil, greater capacity and the same terminal ballistics. It just hasn't been viable until Ruger came out with their handgun, but the PSA further expands options. The only other hurdle is the cost of ammo, but in todays market 5.7 is comparable to 9mm prices.

    • @bannedbycommieyoutube5time920
      @bannedbycommieyoutube5time920 Před 2 lety +1

      @@DaveSmith-cp5kj we can agree to disagree on ballistics. Mathematically we agree, but there will forever be the debate of heavy & slow vs. fast and light (and everything in between, what is the exact proper balance).
      There also isn’t a 5.7 firearm I’m aware of that is the proper size to conceal carry for the vast majority of people, so for the vast majority, it’s a non-starter.
      For home defense, a long gun is a much better choice than any handgun in the vast majority of situations. Even if it had fantastic ballistics for a handgun, a long gun has exponentially better ballistics.
      Again, at the end of the day, to each his own, I never suggested it was a “bad” caliber.
      Edit: I have been routinely seeing 1,000 rounds of brass cased 9mm for $0.30 a round for the last 6-8 weeks. If you hand load and have a source of free brass/reuse your brass 3-4
      Times, it’s even cheaper than that. I haven’t seen 5.7 for anywhere near that price for practice.

    • @brianmitchell8964
      @brianmitchell8964 Před 2 lety

      @@DaveSmith-cp5kj the only advantage 5.7 has over 9mm is the lower recoil and that's only for recoil sensitive shooters. 9 has proven better ballistics with significantly heavier and larger bullets. You get more capacity in a 5.7 but that's a mute point since most self defense scenarios could be settled with a 6 shot revolver. The initial purpose for 5.7 is as a sub gun round to defeat body armor which it excells at but how often is that relevant for average citizens? And there are specialty 9mm rounds designed and just as capable of this. I'm sure it's fun but the price of ammo is a huge advantage for 9mm. Being able to train with your defensive firearm is a major factor of self defense. I can handload 500 practice rounds of 9 for less than the price of 1 box of 5.7. If you feel it's right for you that's just fine you are of course entitled to your opinon I personally don't see any advantage to 5.7.

    • @DaveSmith-cp5kj
      @DaveSmith-cp5kj Před 2 lety

      @@brianmitchell8964 The terminal ballistics of the 9 and 5.7 are actually nearly identical.
      I also train with the 9, but I carry a 22TCM barrel conversion (although I would carry a 5.7 if I still had my five seven). The 22 caliber is way easier to shoot so I know that if I can shoot the 9 well, I can shoot the 22 even better. The 22TCM can penetrate IIIa at close range because it is a little more powerful than 5.7, but the reason I carry the 22TCM is because it is softer recoiling. This means even if I'm not on my A game, I can be confident my rounds go where I intend for them to go.
      If I had a 5.7 it would be a huge advantage over 9mm due to the magazine capacity alone, which these days is more applicable with how many people are drugged up, and someone on a bad trip is probably going to be more likely the person who attacks you than a sober robber.

    • @brianmitchell8964
      @brianmitchell8964 Před 2 lety

      @@DaveSmith-cp5kj the 5.7 has over 100ftlbs of energy less than 9mm when fired from similar length barrels, penetrates an average of 10.6 inches in bare gel (less than 9) and has a wound cavity 1/3 the size of typical 9mm defensive ammo. It's not a bad round but it's not the wonder pill some claim it is. I see it as a niche round. An armed gaurd(which I am BTW) that may face multiple armored assailants may have more need of the increased capacity and armor blindness. Or it would be a great end of days zombie gun if you could stockpile ammo..But for much of the population ..myself included..n mag restrictions nullify the capacity factor.
      It really comes down to personal choice and what somone is comfortable in their ability to defend themselves with. A hit with the 5.7 is better than a miss with a .357.

    **Military Arms channel did a comparison of the four loads that he could get of the 5.7 out of FN Five Seven versus the level 2 body armor vest. The military and police only load that he got was the only one that actually penetrated the vest out of the pistol length barrel. But then he tried it out of a short barreled P90 and it penetrated.
    **But then he tried the PMR 30 from Kel-Tec which is just a 22 mag and that actually penetrated the vest but stopped on the manufacturers label on the inside of the vest.
    So if Kel-Tec wants to remake the PMR 30 more like the old Grendel P31 with the 11 inch barrel I'd buy one.
