THE SILENCERS (1966)

- The Silencers (1966) is a quintessential 1960's spy spoof, directed by Phil Karlson. It is the first (and best) of four colourful Matt Helm features, with debonair 'Rat Pack' member Dean Martin cleverly cast as author Donald Hamilton's womanising smoothie, the Man from ICE (Intelligence Counter Espioage). The attitudes may have dated - this is very much of its time - but the women continue to delight, especially Stella Stevens (Gail) as a divine klutz. Also making an impact are former Miss Israel Daliah Lavi (Tina aka 'Cowboy') and one-time MGM siren Cyd Charisse, whose title song is a highlight.
Helm is coaxed out of semi-retirement by an attractive ex-partner. It seems that the evil Big 'O' organization has a nefarious plan called "Operation: Fallout." If this plan comes to fruition, Big 'O' will explode an atomic bomb over Alamagordo, NM, and start WWIII. Only Matt Helm can stop them.
Trivia
The name "Tung-Tze" means "to rule" in Chinese.
Although one of the greatest female dancers in the history of the movie musical, Cyd Charisse singing in films was almost always dubbed. A young Vikki Carr performed her singing in The Silencers (1966). - Krátké a kreslené filmy
The Silencers is my favorite Matt Helm movie. Saw it at the Amboys Drive In Theatre in New Jersey with my parents in 1966 and I was just a kid of ten years old. Dean Martin was really cool and Daliah Lavi was gorgeous. Beverly Adams was pretty hot too!
What about Stella Stevens? She was hotter than them all!
Never realized it, but Matt Helm was kind of the evolutionary step between James Bond and Austin Powers. Looks like Mike Myers may have gotten a lot of inspiration.
I could watch these movies all day in my underwear
Two Words... "Lovey Cravzit!!!" My favorite Non-Bond spy series! Women as hot as any that starred with Connery; crazy gadgets, ridiculous villains, far-fetched plots...
Man, I love the old days! Bring back the COLD WAR!!! (There, I said it!)
I remember going to a cinema in Lowestoft to watch this film back in 1967.
Man,my hormones got a real rush watching Dahlia Lavi in her underwear, she was just so gorgeous.
Watching it now,I can see much of the James Bond model about it.
Anyway, those were the 'good old days',when post world war 2 austerity started to fade,as a young single man,I had lots of money & even more young females to enjoy,if only the clock could be rewound.
I love the theme music of the trailer of this movie.
Dino , king of Kool !
NOW THIS IS WHEN I LOVED TO WATCH TV, AND MUST SAY THE GIRLS LOOKED SO NICE AND CLEAN BACK THEN.
Thanks for posting this. I was never a big fan of the Matt Helm series mainly because Dean Martin was clearly playing himself and recycling bits from his variety show and nightclub gigs and wasn't even trying to give a believable performance. The productions were done on the cheap and look it (even by mid 1960s standards). Only the supporting cast make these films watchable. Totally agree the ladies were delightful and kept things lively, Stella especially.
This is stunning- and you've got more of the opening music than I remember. Stunning images and editing. Thank you very much.
Great editing really perfect notice the silencer on the pistol at 1:32 -- a silencer won't work on a revolver a silencer only works on an automatic. So many movies and shows made this mistake in the 1960s. With a revolver the Loud Bang! is still heard from the cylinder hole.
giggity giggity, giggity goo!
2:06 It's Harry Mudd!
Mudd I!
Love this movie
Best thing about this film? Stella Stevens. Extremely sexy in her role, and funny. Steals the picture from Dino as soon as she enters (rear end first). That's quite an entrance!
xcellent!!! Victor Buono funniest death scene in history 'Ooooooohhhh!'
Hey pallie, how cool is this...you have captured the essence of Matt Helm caper numero uno in a truly Dino-riffic Dino-way....tikes totally rad man!
GREAT Las Vegas Funky 007 sixties version !
GREAT Elmer sounds !!
And GREAT cool editing on this one !!!
Marvelous! You're editing and presentation gets better and sharper with every vid buddy. Double kudos. Keep them coming. Enjoy them immensely.
Glad you like this one.
Thanking you again Mr. Punisher.
The fact they censored Cyd Charisse's strip tease, there was a LOT more leg at the end, I've seen pictures, is a crime!
Hey Soundtrack, you did a great job! Pretty much the whole movie in 3 minutes. :-)
Many thanks kind sir.
this was cheezy i remember it to.
Outstanding!!!

2:12 tactical maneuver!

Thanks Jack ...glad your enjoying the edits.
@Lockbar Thanks for the thumbs up!
Hey Mike Meyers ripped this movie off with Austin Powers; cool! :-D
a CLASSIC.
Thanks for comment Lonnell.
Someone needs to do a montage of Tung Tse and how he gets so frustrated over Matt Helm, particularly when he gets upset over the way the video feed is not working. Somehow it makes one wonder that BigO, T.H.R.U.S.H., and Spectre must have some successes or they'd not been able to accumulate all the money to build their elaborate headquarters setups.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting ruapraia.
@privatefell Yes, Roger C Carmel and Victor Buono are both in this movie.
Groovy Baaby, yeah !!!! this reminds me Austin Powers
Austin Powers is a parody of these movies
Thanks for the support.
I'm almost certain,,but some of the sets used in Columbia Pictures' "THE SILENCERS"
in 1965-66,may be the same actual sets, that CBS's 1973 TV movie-pilot "GENESIS II"
also used, since both Columbia and Warner Bros. used the same Burbank Studios lot, back in those days! "GENESIS II" was one of three TV pilots that Gene Roddenberry
produced for Warner Bros.Television, and i'm certain that some of these, were actually used from "THE SILENCERS" sets!
nice to watch this movie. plz upload
0:22 - 0:23, 2:01 - 2:04, and 2:18 - 2:24 The trouble with Tina/Cowboy was that when it came to Matt Helm, she could never learn to keep her head out of her drawers, but then again, neither could Matt. Don't get me wrong. I love the film.
At last! A film where I identify with the main character. I am a real life Dean Martin/Matt Helm, a boozy crooner with women hanging all over me.
I hate to see Big O syndicate deal with Roger Smith and his Big O because they will be judged guilty.
Am I totally high or are both Harry Mudd and King Tut in this?
Normally I prefer widescreen, however you miss out on a lot in this film if it's not in 4:3 (some of you may know what I'm talking about;)
@jpowell180 Original aspect ratio 1.85 : 1
I really like the 1st stripper in the blue outfit. After she opens up her dress (wish we could see it!) She grins and looks down upon her glory with such pride and confidence. Ring-a-Ding-Ding, Baby!
Nesta época as mulheres tinham uma sensualidade fantástica. Simplesmente sexy, classudas e lindas.
Your trailer with music is better than the movie!
Check out zerokomma channel.
Big thanks to you George!
...Dean looks a little tipsy...
i love dean and I'm a guy
yes the usa tried to copy james bond but they did it with the legendary icon dean martin
Actually, Cubby Broccoli and Harry Saltzman were American and Canadian respectively, so the James Bond movies weren't exactly 100% British productions.
When I was 13, my dad took me to see a Matt Helm movie, don't remember which one now. This was before the ratings guide that is in force now. Dad told me later he wasn't sure if I should see such a movie, all the sexy women and all. Looking back on it now, TV is more sexy today than this movie.
My Mom wouldn't let me watch James Bond movies but I fooled her into letting me go see this, and I sat there with my eyes wide open the whole time.
it was the freshest of the matt helm films - i like the wrecking crew but dean acts in the silencers and seems a bit bored doing the wrecking crew
