- Jerry Lewis, the greatest dancer ever. Plus the Count Basie orchestra. When Jerry ran up the stairs at the end he collapsed as soon as he was out of frame and was rushed to hospital. Filming was postponed for a month.

Let's not forget that he was also a very giving humanitarian. ❤❤
Just saw an interview w/Jerry on PBS where he says the music was prerecorded. The set was built over two adjacent soundstages to give him the scope he wanted. He picked the camera angles, framing ("Always show Jerry from head to toe), and determined "no cut-aways, the whole thing has to be one continuous shot." AND THEN HE IMPROVISED THE ENTIRE STAIRWAY DANCE IN ONE TAKE! "I had no idea what Jerry was going to do until the music started!" Sheer genius.
Stairway scene inspiration was from the Nicholas Brothers scene in Stormy Weather. He knew better thwn to try that one. Segregation was the rule ofmthe day so many entertainers went to Black clubs with intent to steal ideas and then copy it. His performance is enjoyable but doesn't hold a candle to the hjghest standards of the originals they copied from.
Thank you for this amazing story. He was genius. Catching a dancer from head to toe is vital to enjoying the dance skills. I hate when there is just shots from waist or shoulders, or just feet. I feel cheated. Dance is a full body sport.
Maybe I am ignorant of what "cut-aways"are.
I think I am seeing plenty of cut-aways.
@@im1who84u Compare his scene to that of the Nicholas Brothers in Stormy Weather and you will see sheer genius.
@@im1who84u I think he added the shots of the girl later. But he had continuous shots from two angles to work with.
Most people have forgotten that along with being a trained actor, singer & comedian, Jerry Lewis was also a trained dancer! Most of his comedic dancing, he developed himself. He was a rare gem.
I always thought he was a dancer, more than anything.
He was never pretentious and , I think, truly enjoyed his "work." He certainly threw his all into whatever he did. I always liked him!
Indeed! One of a kind! ❤
Iirc he was also instrumental in developing simultaneous video recording/playback technology and used it when filming The Bellboy.
Er ist nicht selten sondern nicht zu finden wie Diamant und Gold ...Außerdem wissen viele Menschen über ihn bescheid sonst wäre er nicht einzigartig ❤
In those days, you had to be a triple threat in order to succeed in show business. Sing, dance and act! Jerry did it all plus comedy!
Yet his "schtick" wore thin on Television. He was good for about five minutes, and then it was over. LOL.
Simply genius! This is when actors and actresses had to sing, dance and deliver lines all with A+ quality!
Yes. They had talent. And kept their clothes on. No showing body parts.
I was thinking that the other day. I remember being in school and my teachers emphasizing you HAVE to be a TRIPLE THREAT or you'll be looked over ....now you don't even have to know how to act. Smh.
I can very readily agree with each and every comment of the above. Wouldn’t change any thing. They were indeed , super stars .
One of the most underrated dancers of the era. An all around, multitalented actor. In an age when one HAD to be. Bravo!
It's hard to take your eyes off him; he's that good. Never realized just how good a dancer he was. You gave us many good years so thanx Jerry. ❤😮 ❤
Jerry was a master at anything he done. He had swagger with a bit of comedy mixed in. Totally Brilliant Jerry Lewis moves. R.I.P Comedy Legend.
Me too😊
💯
Good riddance to a pervert.
zero talent you mean !
I always found Jerry Lewis a handsome guy :) and he has swag ^__^ awesome dance moves
Me too
Very handsome 🤩
Really and talent as a film historian and a jazz singer I can say is one of the most elegant wonderful talented people ever to Grace American show business
I agree in a comedic way very expressive and active full of energy.
Yes! He’s my favorite actor/comedian of all time!
how did he not miss a step. what a treat to see this, a GRAND entrance and love the band. Great music scenes and dancing, love the whole thing.
Especially dancing with Miss Anna Maria Alberghetti!
Love and miss this guy. Talented in so many funny crazy ways. RIP, thanks for the laughs Jerry!
We just love him, we love to laugh and his crazy goofiness just
Sets the belly rolls going!!!
I love this dance then and I love it now. Jerry Lewis one of the greatest comedians of all times.🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
@eumiceappling: … and a talented dancer too.
Good Lord!! Cinderfella!! I remember seeing this movie when I was a kid. Absolutely classic scene. I still love Jerry Lewis to this day. What a freaking legend. ❤
Love Jerry Lewis no matter what he's in such a talent one-in-a-billion
He did that scene in ONE take
Yes!!!!!
I agree !!!!!!! 🙏😘
Jerry Lewis and Count Basie's band - a brilliant combination!
Jerry Lewis and Danny Kaye were two of my favorites as a kid! They were so funny. They did it all, too. They sang, they danced, they did the comedy, they acted in a bunch of movies that broke me up when I watched them perform. Lewis also played the drums as well. I don't remember if Kaye played an instrument. I just remember them being funny and endlessly versatile in all the roles they played. I'm glad to have run across this old sequence from Cinderfella.
Ah yes! Danny Kaye indeed! Both were triple threats! Sing, dance, act and comedy.
I have always loved Jerry Lewis & Dean Martin movies since I was a child....They never air anymore on TV....Thanks for sharing cffc...
Jerry had a heart attack when he finished this scene all in one take - unbelievable the stamina he had for his physical comedy. He truly was the best!
He was 34 when he made that movie. Surprising young age for a heart attack; though he did run himself ragged in his career.
He went from best to worst when I learned what he did to his family
His father showed up in his hospital room telling him do you how worried you mother is. Didn't ask about him at all.
@@eddyrobichaud5832 Nobody's perfect!

I know there is a limit
I remember watching this as a young girl. I loved it then, love it more now. What a talent Jerry Lewis was!
Jerry. Was. An. Outstanding. Comedian. Actor. Dancer. Always. Enjoyed. His. Movies. 😊😊😊😊
A hero. At least to me. Thanks for the memories and for my sense of humor. R I.P..
That Jerry Lewis...Cinderfella Dance, from Start (Top of the stairs) to Finish (The Waltz)...
IS A CLASSIC! 😊
Jerry Lewis OWNED IT! 👍😊
The dance from the beginning to the end is classic
I love all of Jerry Lewis movies, what a great comedian and actor💕
I have to add handsome and talented,!!Pia
S'il vous plaît, de quel film est ce un extrait ?
@@everq483 Cinderfella
This is one of those deals where it's hard to imagine anyone but Jerry Lewis doing it.
He set the standard for scenes like this and most every other comic comes in a distant second.
Me gusta mucho el cine americano, que incluye música y baile. Son excelentes.
También me gusta la comedia.
I didn’t know. I just never could watch him because of that irritating voice. Now I see what I missed.🌹

The first time I heard his real voice was on the telethons. I was so surprised lol!
Watching Jerry Lewis as a kid was fun!! Loved Cinderfella!
I remember watching his movies growing up. But I did not know he was such a great dancer! I became a professional dancer so I really appreciate how good he was!
He was so light on his feet and had such great moves and timing; definitely a talented dancer.
Truely magnificient! I love the way he "floats" down the stairs. I never get tired of Jerry Lewis, he is a genious.
A classic indeed! What an amazing performance. Always love Jerry Lewis
Jerry Lewis, always will be one of my favorite comedians since my childhood.
For me
THE ONE AND ONLY
He filled my life with hope and laughter, I miss him so.
Me too♥️
Jerry Lewis was absolutely amazing and will always be remembered for his comedy and great movies
The dance routine is so genius. It’s a mixture of dance in it’s excellence sprinkled with dashes of goofiness 🤪. Only Jerry Lewis could pull this off. On another note, I heard that he had a heart ❤️ attack when he got to the top of the stairs. He does look very tired 🥱 on the set, for sure. It still amazes me that he lived so long in spite of that incident. Thanks goodness he pulled through …
Yes I heard the same.
I thank God he was alive during my childhood he made my life a lot better just by being around I will always remember him
Still one my favorite dance scenes…ever.
#ChrisSpears
I feel the same way. There were many times growing up when for varying reasons I needed whichever movie happened to be airing that day & I was uplifted without fail *every* *single* *time*
🏆❣️
Not a heart attack. He was sick with the flu and running a fever. No one knew.
He really cracks me up sometimes, there'll never be another Jerry Lewis.😊💖
Jerry Lewis helped me survive many bad times in my life. Thank you, Jerry!
Me too
Jerry Lewis is GENIUS!
The GREAT Jerry Lewis... My God.. what a talent.. Ive always loved him... This is a timeless masterpiece.
Excelente
Jerry Lewis the greatest comedian in the world. One of my favorites movies was The nutty professor. I loved everything he did.
I knew him only as the comic half of Martin and Lewis. Never realized until recent videos that he was one of the greatest dancers ever. Amazing how he can dance so well and still do it in a comedic vein.
Too bad people can't live forever with the vitality of youth. He is SO ATHLETIC and has perfect timing.
This is EPIC right here! Jerry Lewis is the king of comedy! True comedic genius! A brilliant mind-a brilliant star! I love him forever!
I heard somewhere that after that athletic dance and then running up those stairs 2 at a time, he finished the scene then actually collapsed. No wonder though, if it's true. That whole scene is fantastic, right from his entrance with all his suave swagger, to his last words to the princess and the look on his face when he says "...and I'll never forget you." Perfect scene! Thank you, Jerry; and I will never YOU. ❤
Yes it is true ge said himself that he had a heart attack when he got to the top of the stairs and other cast members witnessed it
this is true.
I remember I watched this 40 years ago. Unforgettable movie and wonderful scene.
Thanks, Jerry. You were a big part of my movie experience growing up. Have a great time with Dean again.
This will forever be one of my favorites scenes ever! THIS is how you make an entrance. I'll miss you, Jerry. Thank you so much for the laughs & infinite innovation and knowledge. I love you. RIP.
So many foot moves/patterns/phrasing people think of as "new" are present in this performance. Jerry Lewis showing how it's done, at his charming, brilliant best. What a delight!
While he had his ugly side, this was truly one talented as hell man! The likes of which we will never see again in our lifetime!
Just Incredible!! A Very Underrated Dance scene!!
Despite his faults I'm proud that I answered phones at his annual telethons! ☺
Jerry was such a great and Classy Dancer as well as a comic genius and so very talented artist overall
He was one of the many greats lost but forever alive in his movies. A natural talent, like he didn't even have to try.
He brought lots of joy and laughter into homes across America in the say. Rip sweet man...
I love all of jerry lewis movies. they are funny and entertaining and never crude

I grew up watching his movies at the theaters. He was a comic genius. He is missed by so many fans.
Jerry is a talented man & outstanding dancer as well! love him!!!
And a good singer as well.
Jerry just passed away. A really gifted man. Complex, and a very intelligent fella.
It takes a genius to act a fools part, he was simply brilliant and great fun to watch x
Nobody but Jerry Lewis could have did it this way! You go Jerry!💖
Probably the best party entrance (and dance) sequence ever filmed, definitely the hippest. Jerry and Count Basie at their finest. THANKS for posting this whole scene.
+MarkinDC That is totally a boss entrance by Jerry Lewis, no doubt!
A brilliant 1-man production number indeed! ☺
You consider THIS the best dance scene ever filmed? UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! Not knocking anyone or anything but DAMN... You need to get out more.
Listen man, if you don't like Jerry Lewis, then get off his page
donaldstephens11 I will say what I please, where I please, when I please so go fuck yourself Donald Stephens you ass-fuck!
I Love his vulnerable confession, makes the character in the movie big and we all do understand. It makes him a mensch... I didn't know this scene. RIP brave man.
In a lot of Lewis movies there is a moment when the awkward loser earns respect for having character or integrity. He never quits on himself.
I worked for MDA and used to go out to the telethon. The main office was
in NYC and I worked in the video department so i saw him quite often,
But I'll never forget the time that I was doing my Nutty Professor
impersonation and then Jerry started doing it and it was a magical
moment. How I wish it was taped!!
Great movie Cindafella . Great actor ! My great hero . He always makes me very happy when I am a little deppresive .
Many of us young pre-teen boys wore those red sports coat blazers back then. It was our Jerry Lewis formal wear which we wore with pride. ☺.

Great comment.
I'll never forget Jerry Lewis in "Visit to a Small Planet" (1960).
My all time favorite.
Thank goodness we can still go back and watch great movies. Jerry was awesome!
I saw this as a child. It always stayed with me.
Another great Jerry Lewis performance. He had his own style of movement. Once again I’m glad he was captured on film...
Jerry is truly a survivor ( crippling back pain, cancer, drug addiction )....he really enjoyed performing, but what a cost...this scene is a classic, no one else could've done it as well.....and the man just turned 90....love you Jerry always ~~
As a master of visual comedy it is no wonder why his comedy is universal and admired in France. ☺
+June Lynn And now we'll never forget him, never! Rest in peace, master genious Jerry Lewis! ¡Hasta siempre! ¡Se van los muy grandes, los ÚNICOS!

Jerry Lewis had more talent in his little toe than most so called comedians today. What a brilliant clip. Also him and Tony Bennett together were a sheer joy. Oh to have these two on our screens again today.
One of my favorite movies of all times.

Lewis was an all-rounder, he could sing, dance, do comedy, of course as well as dramatic acting, He could instantly transform from gawky and awkward to suave and classy seamlessly.
I have ALL of his movies and I never get tired of watching him.
Jerry is one cool cat. They don't makem no more.

Jerry Lewis one of my favorite comedians. I love all his movies. God bless him.
I think it's funny how I see him dancing and shuffling at the same time. He was the first "shuffler." LOL
I never tire of watching and listening to the magical Mr. Jerry Lewis. His talent has never been equaled nor duplicated. He was such a genius in every way. Would loved to have met him - maybe I will in Heaven.
When I was a teenager there was The Jerry Lewis's dance in my school. Nothing like Jerry Lewis choreography like the legend himself. Masterpiece
Truly an amazing performance! Such a unique, death-defying talent!
