- This is how it all started at 7AM EST on July 13, 1985. If you tuned in to WNEW Channel 5 in the New York City area this is what you saw, tech glitches and all. Hosted by Marilyn McCoo and George Segal.
This is awesome. I remember the commercials for Live Aid on WNEW, like the first one here.
I wonder how well Pepsi The Movie did.
It fizzled early and went flat.

Philadelphia & London are the venues for the Live Aid concert in 1985. 2 cities, 2 countries, 2 stadiums, 1 big concert for African relief. I seen it firsthand. We are the world, baby!
This particular broadcast was seen in 70 countries around the world(outside Europe, of course).

Aww! I want to see the rest of this! I didn't know there was another broadcast of Live Aid. This had to be more of a syndicated version of the event. I thought this was only an MTV/BBC telecast. Kinda disappointed no station here in Houston carried it (that I know of) we had just lost the cable at our house that month because my dad quit paying for it. We had been driving in from out of town so I was listening to it on the radio then got home in time to catch the ABC telecast.
djrage70 you're right this was the syndicated airing that was live . After 6PM ABC began airing the rest of the concert live. For those of us without cable in the US this was THE only way to watch it (aside from going to someone's house who had cable.)
The syndicated part aired on KRIV in Houston.
Channel 5 on Manhattan cable.

Ha! Channel 5... that would explain why wayy back when before of course I was old enough to discover groups like the Fifth Dimension (Marilyn Mccoo) as a preschooler, I simply figured these two were anchors for Fox
And remember, the syndicated broadcast utilized the international TV feed(not the BBC or MTV broadcast). Orbis Communications screwed TV viewers in the USA without cable.
