How do you determine the depth into the ground the moment column and trench should be dug and installed? I imagine the column should go a little deeper than the trench. For example, I have a single car garage with a soft story of two small bedrooms above, 15’x30’ with an A-frame roof.

I saw your video on post and beam connectors: czcams.com/video/WpwbXhJuhzY/video.html&feature=emb_logo - where you mention that this is not a proven retrofit technique. Your post used a crawl space as an example. Does also apply to soft-story conditions where there fewer posts? (first story garage with crawl space > 7 feet).
