I can't watch this woman pretending to not have been part of all the vile right wing ideologies she stirred and encouraged for the majority of her professional life.
Interesting how he received his first belt of empathy and compassion for the subjects of his hatred when he was beating on a coloured guy and looked into his eyes. A similar thing happened to me but in a different context. I was feeding a cow a handful of grass and it looked me in the eye, that was 30 years ago and I haven't eaten meat since. Eye to eye contact can triggers a deep sense of compassion and empathy that can knock you off the path you are on. How many people feel a deep sense of distrust even hatred for groups we don't understand and actually know very little about, it is a primitive reflex, and we fill in the blanks with negative emotion that festers to hatred.

@john vento Mate anything south of Rome has a significant amount of Arab ancestry i went to Napoli and Calabria and i felt like i was in Damascus with how Arab people looked. Even the north has small amounts of Arab ancestry as most northern Italian city states (specifically Venice) accepted converts to catholicism into society after a conversion period. Yes the Muslims were expelled in the 13th century but youd be delusional to believe that there werent a lot of mixed Arab and Latins who were raised catholic on the Italian mainland. To deny a relatively significant amount of Arab ancestry being Italian is like a Spaniard denying Jewish ancestry there were more who became catholic than were expelled.
As for Sicily theyre still extremely mixed with Arab and sub-saharan admixture. Ive seen a huge range of Sicilians from those with white skin and nappy hair to those who look Saudi or Pakistani. What Ive never seen in my life is a Sicilian who looks "fully white". If they exist, they are a significant minority in Sicily.

Paul, it's called his/her perspective. Racism does not = white people. But in white majority countries like America minorities are often found in situations where racially and culturally they may be a bit different and with that the fear and anxiety of acceptance can affect an individual/family.

The reason Americans are now split into radical camps is we no longer commit to our own ideas. Americans forget we were founded on ideas, not just the preservation of one race or another - and that is something that's kind of unique. Undoubtedly the Founders wanted their posterity to enjoy what they had built but they accepted ideas that were radical, that ALL men were created equal. Throughout our early history you see Americans writing about our legal and statecraft theories as "dogmas and doctrines," probably most notably - if you've ever read his correspondence - American figures like William Tecumseh Sherman. We were built on ideas and we have a history to be proud of. But there's been a huge attack on these institutions and legacies as bad things.
But my point is that if we want to stop the division we have got to find the things that unite us. We have to start celebrating and teaching our own ideas again and re-learning our roots. We have to realize that White or not we're all in this together. We all benefit from this Republic. We all share in its legacy and its success is our success. Until we start grasping that with more clarity, this isn't going to stop.
I've seen it myself; lots of the young guys I knew in the Alt-Right - which I was a fringe member of being a Catholic Reactionary, and I have plenty of stories of my own many wouldn't believe about how that movement changed even from what I joined - have realized the pointlessness and self-destructiveness of these hateful ideologies. They're young and have a long way to go like I did but they're going to find the way out and many already have.
That empathy that you felt when you connected with that individual came from God. I truly believe that.
