  • You heard that right. The X-T30 is my choice for a daily carry. I never totally understoond the hype around the x100v so maybe I'm missing out? But when it comes to the XT30 vs X100v I'm always going with the X-T30. What's your choice?

I have an original silver 27mm f2.8 as a "body cap" for my (graphite) X-T30. I usually carry it in a padded fanny pack with the 18mm f2 and the XC 15-45. Those are 3 of Fujifilm's 4 smallest lenses, the other one being the XC 35mm f2.

I love my Xt30 - use it with 16mm 2.8 and 35mm 2.0. - great story telling. Both lenses are sharp . - usually shoot. - 1/3 or -2/3 then raise the midtones around my subjects. This protects highlights / and this back-lit sensor recovers shadows pretty good 👍

Had an XT 20 which I loved, then I bought the GR3 and XT4 … loved them both. Resisted the 100v hype as I just didn’t get it … that was until I tried one for a few days, sorry, but what a truly lovely camera … I bought mine RRP (UK) and have a small ‘man purse’ that I can carry the GR3 and 100v (that’s 28mm and 35mm covered) and they literally now come everywhere with me. As a result I’ve done more ‘Everyday’ photography since and my confidence and knowledge has increased threefold … which has to be a good thing eh? 😊

I took the XT 20 with the 18-55 to Portugal, really struggled between that set up and my XT3 with the 16-55 but I'm glad I settled on the smaller camera and lens. The xt20 and xt30 are hands down more versatile cameras than the x-100 V.

  • @benjaminbjacobsen
    @benjaminbjacobsen Před rokem

XE4 has entered the chat. If you can find one. Granted you trade smaller size for no grip, if you add the grip it adds height bringing it closer to the 30's height with the evf. I've owned the X100 a few times and each time I sway back to an XE w/18mm. A lot of this comes down to a SLR/rangefinder preference. I really wish they'd make a new version of the 18mm though, hopefully slightly smaller but definitely better AF. It's odd to me they've made a V2 of the 28mm but left the older 18mm alone for all these years.

I own the XT-20 and the Pro 2, but I use my XT-20 most of the time with the FujiFilm 27mm lens on it. My XT-20 is in silver, and I can’t tell you how many people have stopped me asking if it was a film camera. I have been a photographer since picking up photography while serving in the army, back in 1959. I bought the XT-20 from KEH a few years ago. Service was good and the warranty gave me enough time to make sure it was a good quality camera. The camera had never had its firmware updated so who ever had owned it before probably hadn’t used it much. On the other hand I use it almost daily.

Hello tehere...thanks for the video....one question...the X100T is a bit slow to be ready, I mean, once you turn it on, lift it up and aim, sometimes it;s not ready to shoot like my Nikon DSLR's, is the XT30 better at that, is it fast? I mean, once you turn it on, is it instantly ready to shoot like a DSLR ? Please, let me know, thanks in advance.

I own an ET30 and love it. As you suggest, I’m not willing to pay a premium on a used body or wait for months to purchase a new body.
I think the XT30 body is superior to the X100S for hybrid photography. As you state, the XT30 is a mini XT3. There are so many video feature to choose from. Some people dig the fixed lens. Many will want the option to change lenses. It all comes down to what you want.
I choose not to upgrade bodies to the XT30ii. The improvements are incremental. If buying new I don’t think I’d pay extra for that body. It all comes down to your needs and how much you are willing to spend. For me, the XT30 is the right choice.

I’m late but curious. I don’t want a full system and more GAS, had that with Nikon years ago. Now would consider getting back to more serious than just iPhone photography. What made me interested in x100v was useable images straight out of camera (good filters), wifi connectivity, built in nd filter, decent lens, small form factor. Want a fast lens but not one that’s twice the size of the camera. So a good fast pancake but for a budget as well.
So how does the t30 compare on that front?

All my life, I have used film cameras, Mamiya, Canon, and my most loved treasure, a pair of Yashica 124s. My XT 30 II finally arrived, and a side-by-side comparison, they are almost the same size. If you had compared the X100V to an X-T30 with a 27mm f/2.8 lens, say, bolted to the front, *then* it becomes a meaningful and interesting comparison.

I would say the XT30 is more versatile for sure, but for everyday and travel, I'm using the X100V hands down. The X100V is just simpler so you don't have to worry about bringing different lenses for different shots, you get a 35mm equivalent and that's it. I mean, I do have the TCL as well, but I don't bring that for everything.
The X100V has everything else that you mentioned as well, the same sensor as the XPro 3, built in flash, the same video specs, and even a built-in ND filter that you can use for both photo and video. I use the ND filter every day I take the X100V with me. And I personally like the rangefinder style, and even love the fact that I can use the EVF or change it to an optical viewfinder.
But again, if price was an issue, especially since the resale of the X100V has skyrocketed, the xT30 is a no brainer. I would even argue that the XE4 might even be the better buy.

The ability to have interchangeable lenses is a big bonus for flexibility to get closer to your subjects on vacation especially in mountainous areas. However the prime lens in the X100V is much better than the Fuji prime lenses you mentioned. When you buy a range finder type camera the glass is everything. One of the main reasons Leica photos look so good. The T3, T30ll all are great values especially these days when you see X100V prices hovering above $1700.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but that actually gives the exact same functionality as the view mode button. You literally choose to make that function button into the view mode button.
I do however agree that they shouldn't have removed the view mode button in the first place. But the option to bringing it back via an fn button largely mitigates that.
Personally I love the X100 series in general, and the X100V in particular. I've had every iteration of the series before the V came out, going all the way back to 2011.
The X100V is of course the most refined and capable X100 camera yet, and it is truly among my favourite cameras. Having said that, I can totally understand that it's not for everyone, and why some may find it too limiting and perhaps even underwhelming after being it.
The Tik Tok hype certainly doesn't help in this regard...
Anyway, glad to hear that you're enjoying your X-T30II instead.
