  • This video is about 3D laser scanners and their applications in building information modelling (BIM) processes. It describes the terms "scan to BIM" and reality capture. It also explains how Autodesk ReCap Pro software can be used to import and convert scan data from the 3d laser scanner into RCP point cloud format which can be then edited in BIM software applications such as Autodesk Revit and Civil 3D.

    I did tried the FARO scanner, too many noisy point cloud data scanned which may due to the open space environment. And, it was really exciting to use such expensive equipment. Autodesk probably would be a monopoly company of such technology for coming centuries.

      Thanks for sharing your experience :) I would say the Tech world is not 100% predictable. You may see a brand new company starting any time. But Revit in particular, is going to be dominating for a long time (I think).

    Hi Dr. Thank you very much for your excellent presentation. I have gone through all your videos and found them very useful. You make me think of to advance my future carrier and education on BIM. I am currently living in Ethiopia, Africa. Can you suggest me any possible ways of getting additional training or courses on BIM? With regards.

      Hi, Thanks for your comment. First you should know how BIM is evolving your specialisation within the Built Environment sector. Which BIM software applications are the most important ones in your specialisation? You can find very good tutorials on LinkedIn, CZcams and Autodesk website. If you want to study BIM, there are various courses that offer BIM modules. What is your profession?

    Thank you Dr Elham. Here you mentioned laser point can b open in RC so I have PCD files which is not gona to read by any software and can open in Cloudcompare but the files are not aligned so everything is messed. Now point is how to align and merg all these 2000 pcd file's..

    • @waqashassan470
      @waqashassan470 Před 2 lety

      We can align it through coding but a will go for manual process

      What is the PCD point cloud data file format you have? See this website, it may help:

      You can also convert them into Navisworks.

    Which scanner is most worthy and quality result!?

    • @builtevolvechannel8870
      @builtevolvechannel8870  Před 2 lety

      It depends on many factors: do you want to scan indoor spaces? outdoor? both? How large is the space? What are you looking for? Leica is a very good brand for 3D laser scanners used in the construction industry.
