The fact that the dude's achievement was solidified in the sequel via a character description is an actually awesome thing for the devs to do.
More than even that, there's an entire secret ending, area, and dialogue referencing the run!
The run became lore.
Historians wrote legends.
What’s even better is that if you kill Yama in spelunky 2 as Tina he has a special piece of dialogue, which is both neat attention to detail and a very cool tribute

Also, as a new viewer I see you only started adding voice to your videos recently. If you ever want to go back and re-do topics but with your more recent style I'd love that, the videos are much easier to follow with voice over and I could probably use all the tips you can give me. 😅

Also there is the new slip in the Olmec boss fight that was recently discovered. Theoretically you only need the eggplant to compete the run

The eggplant was absolutely intended to be for co-op: you can have the second player hold the scepter, stay alive through the moai and even the gift box is no issue because every shopkeeper will gift wrap any items you buy

If a hired hand can hold an item for you, then why didn't runners use them for the moai head as well as the scepter?
The hired hand is designed not to pick up the eggplant, later on though we realised you could trick the hired hand into picking up the eggplant by using another object.
@Pastryperson This video is captivating! And I wonder. Is the info at around 8:20 inaccurate as Hectique beat the any% world record? Or am I just thinking of a different category.

Can you test killing a shopkeeper, throwing them on spikes, and then see if they forgive you on the next level?
The big question is, are those two bypasses the intended method, or did the devs have something else in mind for those spots, that nobody ever found?
