      @@gamemode_1 yeah it took me a long long time and a lot of effort. On my CO win, I got cheated out of the ankh on 7-16 because a cursed cat was behind one of those aesthetic tarps hanging down, so when I got cursed it was annoying. I died on 7-19, then brought my health back up some, my health dropped from 23 to LITERALLY 1 on 7-23 due to me being caught in a combo attack. I got poisoned in 7-50s or 7-60s but I had 99 health so I was fine.

    I have the default movement set to run, should I set it to walk?

    • @creativeusernvme
      @creativeusernvme  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Hey thank you!
      For controller I use LB to jump, everything else is standard. Pretty strange binding and I’m not sure if I could recommend it. I think it’s something I got used to with Hades (bumper jumper). Most controller players play with the default controls.
      Most experienced players would recommend walk as default movement, I play with run as default though because I have occasional hand pain.
      For keyboard it’s WASD for movement, whip on J, jump on K, Shift for run, bomb and ropes on H and I and “interact” on L (might have H, I, and L mixed up, it’s been a minute since I played with keyboard..). I think most keyboard players have jump on J and whip on K though if they’re not using default controls.
      Hope that answers your questions. Cheers!

    This video was great. I love to see all of the techniques you use, but the best part is that I found them on my own too. It makes me feel good about myself to think about it like that. I’ve beaten the CO one time, which was my 20th entry into it, and I beat it on my 3465th play, though I had insta-reset a lot for speedrunning. On my first win, the last level was volcana and I was poisoned but had like 50 health so I was still good, but I only had like 3 bombs left so I waited on the last orb, which I chose to be close to the jellyfish. I had climbing gloves because they help immensely, but they are not too good to not also sabotage you sometimes, so I spent my last 3 bombs completely clearing out the floor of the room adjacent to the exit so there was no chance I’d get caught on the wall. My run was 3 hours, 12 minutes, and 49 seconds. Almost 4 hours when you include bathroom breaks and letting dogs out, from noon to 4 pm was my run.. january 18th, 2023. I’ll never forget it..🤣🤣🤣

      There was a glitch that was discovered in late September I believe, of last year, that allows you to skip the entire chain typically required to enter hell.
      There were many new categories that came from it, but one of the hardest by far that was realistic to beat was No% hell: a run that was low%, no gold, you can’t take any damage or use any resources (you have to finish with 4 health, 4 bombs, and 4 ropes), and you have to perform the glitch to enter hell, along with actually surviving hell and completing the game. My run stood as the only one for I think over 4 months but it might been a little less than 4 months. I did the math but I don’t remember what I got..🤣🤣🤣

    One more tip I'd like to add: if you're tilted just take a break. I got to 7-75 once and got very determined to grind for that 7-99 but ever since that happened I can't even make it to CO 😭
    One more thing, do you prefer alien compass or 99 bombs/ropes? On my 7-75 I had alien compass so I think that might have been what helped me.
    Keep up the good videos 👍👍

    • @creativeusernvme
      @creativeusernvme  Před rokem +1

      Great tip! I like to take a lot of breaks in Cosmic Ocean in general to stretch my legs and what not but especially to de-tilt. I always play worse when in a bad mood though I have heard some players say they can lose their momentum when taking breaks in C.O. Everyones different I suppose.
      I do prefer Cloning the Challenge bag over the Alien Compass but the Compass+Elixir is a great combo it just depends a bit too much on RNG for me to go for consistently. I need a way to Qilin Skip plus a decent amount of bombs and ropes to justify skipping the clone gun to myself.
      Also I found that overtime you start to recognize familiar layouts and sub-rooms in C.O. much like you would in say Dwelling or Volcana Pre-Cosmic Ocean. That paired with learning how to find the Exit based on the Jellyfish's direction basically removes the need for the Alien Compass for me.
      With that said though It's still a great Item and more and more people seem to favor it over the clone gun these days. Maybe I'll cover it more deeply in a future video. Oh and 7-75 is really good. You'll get back on track sooner or later, dont sweat it :)

    I've been playing bad lately and have only gotten up to 7-11 after a few CO runs, but these are great tips and hopefully I can get further with them. Also, I usually go the Duat route despite what most think, do you think using up the ankh is worth the Jetpack,elixer,alien compass and plasma cannon?

    • @creativeusernvme
      @creativeusernvme  Před rokem

      Hey! Thats a tough question for me to answer because I rarely ever go for the Duat route or have a Duat-to-Cosmic Ocean win to be honest. It definitely is a riskier path but the Jetpack, Elixir, Compass, Plasma Cannon and Bomb Box (if you get enough Kali favor) is definitely tempting!
      I will say that I've beaten Cosmic Ocean several times without using the Ankh (weird flex I know) but point being is you don't need the Ankh to win.
      Respect to you for going the Duat path, seems like a pretty fun way to play and thanks for watching!

    • @Guitarherowned
      @Guitarherowned Před rokem

      I normally just go to temple for the alien compass and elixir than qilin skip later on so i don't have to use up the ankh. Duat to me is an unnecessary area, unless you're going for some type of a challenge run.

      @@Guitarherowned yeah i think most people would consider going Duat a challenge run, it definitely is a viable route though as long as you have a Kapala! ;)

    • @Mathemaniac187
      @Mathemaniac187 Před rokem

      It’s risky to ditch the ankh preCO but a jetpack can be valuable. My suggestion, which was my technique for my first win, is to get vlads cape, spring shoes, and climbing gloves. Those will allow you to have the best mobility without being flammable, and I have never, not a single time, messed up on the Qilin skip with vlads cape, climbing gloves, and spring shoes. I was worried the first time I did it but I’ve messed up more on the jetpack one than the vlads cape one. Even without spring shoes it’s still a great set up. You also don’t need a hired hand if you are skipping the chain, meaning you can just take the clone gun straight up to the top of tiamats throne. I still use bored hands because I take both the Excalibur and the clone gun to the sun challenge. The Excalibur prevents anything from waking up and killing you, like a witch doctor cursing you immediately. It’s not all that hard to avoid otherwise but every once in a while you get unlucky and literally can’t avoid getting cursed. Excalibur is the safer way to go. Good luck on the grind, as it took me 20 entries into CO to get my win!!!

    • @Nat_the_Chicken
      @Nat_the_Chicken Před rokem +2

      @@creativeusernvme Not only would CoG ankh skip be a game-changer, it would be a game-breaker. In Tide Pool it makes sense that it would be possible to skip using it because the only obstacles are level-design-based (still impressive that people came up with consistent strats for it though). But looking at the vanilla game mechanics and the way it's programmed, the only way into Duat is that altar and the only way to use the altar and not end your run is to lose the ankh. Skipping that, to me, would seem to require the ability to wrong-warp into a level, and there's no way there would be a wrong-warp specifically for Duat, you'd need an arbitrary one. Either that, or some kind of finicky death-cancel which could cause the game check to think you died when you actually didn't. Doesn't look likely, especially not for the near future.

    Are there any downsides to using the eggplant crown?

    • @creativeusernvme
      @creativeusernvme  Před rokem +1

      Good question! There are only two that I could think of
      1) I often find myself forgetting that I have the Eggplant Crown and try to backwhip an enemy or trap out of muscle memory. Simple skill issue though.
      b) if you don’t have Pitchers Mitt the eggplant can be hard to aim and a bit underwhelming at times. Also the pitchers mitt will allow you to catch a looping eggplant if you accidentally throw one through the horizontal loop (please correct me if I’m wrong about that, it’s been a while since I went on an eggplant run).
      I feel like the Eggplant Crown is a great strategy for C.O. especially if you’re going for your first win as it essentially grants you a permanent ranged weapon. Super handy in the cosmic ocean. Those are just my opinions though so take them with a grain of salt. I only have 1 eggplant 7-99 as well so maybe not the best person to give advice on it. I honestly usually skip the eggplant crown even when I go to eggplant world. I prefer using the whip but that’s just my personal preference.

    I have been playing for a little under 3 years and still can't finish 7-99 once, but your videos are super helpful and well-edited, keep up the good work creativeusernvme.

      @@comicgoldleaf 7-26 is still really good. a quarter of the way! Farther than most players have made it.
      Keep it up and i'm sure you'll get there eventually if you want to but at the end of the day between you and me its just walking through a door for 94 levels and a cutscene. Dont get me wrong its a great achievement and all but definitely not necessary to enjoy Spelunky 2 or to be considered a good player.
      I don't regret the thousand hours i spent grinding for my first 7-99 but i definitely could've been doing something a bit more productive! haha
      Good luck on your runs and thanks for watching!
