    I do love that you have showed the Free Motion Quilting in real time and resisted the urge to speed up that process. I think it will make it much easier for my fellow sewists to follow along

    Hello,
    I'm fairly new to sewing.
    Your video has inspired me. I do have 2 questions.
    1. Do you have a previous video that will show us how to hand sew thick fabrics?
    I have moderate to sever arthritis in my hands. Any needle assistants you may know about I would appreciate any ideas you may have. The top point and the tree skirt will need to be done by hand. Unless there a tool to help push a needle I don't know if I can do any hand sewing.
    2. I have a Brother 2700 machine. Do I have to quilt the trees? I'm a new sewer. I have no idea about quilting
    Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.

    • @ShabbyFabrics
      @ShabbyFabrics  Před 4 lety

      Hello, I would use a metal thimble to push the needle through the fabrics. Yes, the trees need to be quilted, otherwise the batting shrinks and the fabric does not. Any type of simple quilting will work on these, so have fun! Happy Quilting! ~ Tammy

      Tammy,
      Thank you so much for your reply. Will a simple diamond or square pattern work on the trees. I will do best on a pattern I can draw on the tree pages.

    Tammy, love this pattern. I got all the way through up to sewing all 5 together. I have a Janome 9400 and it won’t go through the layers! You say to hand sew it, not sure how to do that. Any tips for me getting through these layers by hand? Thanks Kari

    • @ShabbyFabrics
      @ShabbyFabrics  Před 4 lety

      We would recommend using a heavy duty denim/ jean needle, that would be able to puncture all layers. -Kyla

    I absolutely love this Christmas tree and want to try it but the batting is so expensive! I have to buy 2 packages to make the tree and skirt which will be $50, I was hoping to make a few of these as gifts but I can't justify spending that much $$ on one tree.

      We are glad you enjoy this festive project. The Bosal Tabletop Tannenbaum Moldable Batting
      From Bosal was designed by Poorhouse Quilt Designs for this project. You could probably use some other stabilizer to replicate the rigidity, but we do not recommend doing the "steaming" step of the pattern as that may not work the same on an alternate stabilizer. Hope this makes sense! -Michelle

    Would a hand held garment steamer work ? I am old school and do not have a steam iron ...... I still iron with just a dry iron and sprinkle, "spritz", my clothes, or just dry iron fabric when I am sewing. Yeah, I use a soda bottle with a cork sealed sprinkling head to dampen clothes, sheets, table cloths, etc. Learned how to do this from my mom back in the late 1950's and in the '60's when I was a kid. Steam irons are ok. I just like to do things old school. Heck, I have my grandmother's old flat "sad" irons that my mom had to use when SHE was a kid growing up on a farm ...... had to heat them on the top of the wood fired stove in the kitchen. Still haven't figured out how to properly heat them on my electric stove to try my hand at REALLY old school ironing. Why would I want to do that? Why not? I am 68 ..... more than one way to tone up one's arms and shoulders! :0D

    • @ShabbyFabrics

      Your hand-held garment steamer might work! We haven't tried it! Old school ironing would definitely tone up those arms and shoulders. haha. Let us know if you do figure that out! ;) - Morgan
