    Backstory to this nail business video...
    So recently I received an email from a viewer asking how to actually go “legit”, yes she legit, used the word legit, so I’m sticking to it.
    And at first I didn’t quite understand what she meant by that because she had mentioned she already had her license… and so in my head that sounded pretty legit.
    But surely after reading a bit more, I was like... ah! I know what you mean, like how to be legit, legit. Ok enough. What she meant was, how to set up the back-end of your nail business so that you are indeed a business now that you are a licensed professional.
    And so what this viewer expressed to me was that there aren’t very many resources (and that is true) that tell a nail tech how to properly set herself up to do business independently in nails.
    For example, things like do you need a separate business bank account or can you use your personal one?
    Do you need a business license?
    How do you report and keep track of your income?
    How do you even take payments from your client, etc., etc. …
    and then I was like AH! I get ya, yeah there really isn’t much out there, is there?
    So in today’s video I will be showing you 7 things you need to have to start operating as a nail business.

    Where have you been all my life? I’m battling working a 9-5 wanting to quit and go to the nail school!! Nails are my PASSION! I currently sell press on nails but want to be a “Legit” Nail Technician. Thank you for taking the time to even do this video to help others like myself.

    • @PaolaPonceNails

      So glad it helped Stephanie! I did quit my day job, and picked up an evening shift as waitress. You’ll need some sort of part time for a few little nail splurges. I literally had no more than $100 sometimes a week to spend... so I had to pick up a part time.

    There was a lot of helpful tips in this video. I think the scariest part of being an independent nail technician is taxes. Everyone usually tells you to just save money for taxes and that supplies are a write off but not the process or how to record the necessary information.

    • @PaolaPonceNails
      @PaolaPonceNails  Před rokem

      Thank you for the feedback!
      I think you are right about many no specifying how to write off things, but I believe it is because of liability reasons.
      Unless tax law is your thing, then you cannot really advice ppl 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Does that insurance cover clients who no show. For instance you charge a no show fee of say $40 and the client does a charge back with their bank saying it’s fraud. Will this insurance cover that cost so you still get paid?

    Hi Paola - I'm so happy to have found your channel, theres nobody as informative in the business side of this as you!
    I have a question about the Sole Proprietor//LLC option; I want to become an LLC because I know this is something I am doing in the future and working towards building. Gracias a dios, i'm moving pretty quickly. However, I still only make about $1500-2000 a month. Do you think it is still worth it to become an LLC? Even if it's just me for now? Most of what you mentioned i've already done or have been researching to do this year! I feel like i'm on the right track, but still unsure on what to do just because I'm not that busy just yet..
    I appreciate your help and knowledge! thank you!

    • @PaolaPonceNails
      @PaolaPonceNails  Před 3 lety +2

      Ugh... I cannot advice you on a legal decision, but I do understand your dilemma. I'm thinking you can still insure yourself/business as sole-prop. I think you will know exactly when it is time to become and LLC. There are fees every year for that, our experience was like $1000 per year?? So you can afford to pay it, but then doing taxes as an LLC just gets more complicated then needed for tiny businesses like yours. I dunno!

      From personal experience, if you get an LLC faster you can start building your business credit and you can start applying for business credit cards, lines of credit, loans to open your future big business or more businesses. Banks like to see that people are keep track of their business money. The sooner you start the faster you will grow your business credit. I recommend opening a business checking account using a credit union bank. Hopes this helps.
