{172} How To Pick The Master 575 And What Pick And Tensioner To Use

- This is a beautiful little lock that seems perfect to pick when you're first getting into picking brass body padlocks. This lock is 5 pins with a dead core and a dead shackle. Having a dead core it is perfect for practicing using top of keyway tension because if the tensioner flies out, you most likely won't lose your picking progress since the core doesn't spring back automatically. In this video I give some tips and tricks on how to pick this including what type of hook I prefer to use on this and why I prefer it.

I have three of these locks, and they're fun to pick. I had them before I got into locksport and they were nice to learn on. Two were keyed alike, and the other I'm pretty certain has at least one spool.

I guess I need to get a vise. I was really trying to learn to just do it in the palm of my hand.
It definitely helps to have a vice for times when you've got to learn a certain pin and it'll be helpful to hold kik cylinders and whatnot once you get to those. I still like to pick some locks in hand when I can but at times I've got hand problems and I love my vice! Thanks for watching!

@@ThisIsWhyWeCantHaveNiceThings. aww thank you! Yea I post often and I’m still making videos. You know, the LPU belt explorer website has a list of locks ranked according to difficulty. It’s the locks we use to go through the belt system with. It saves tons of money instead of buying the wrong locks all the time. Such a huge help. I used to get a new lock and it would either be way too easy and I’d pick it in 2 mins after getting it, or it would be way too hard and I’d have to put it away til I got better at picking but it was a waste of money. I love the belt explorer bc it kinda helps you choose what locks to get.

Lolol they are a lot of fun to learn out of the package. Mine took me 10 mins to pick out of the package until I figured it all out in there, and I can now pick it in about 15 seconds. But when you’re first starting, it is a great lock to get the hang of picking a dead core especially since it doesn’t have security pins. So you can learn the dead core without the fuss of spools to trip you up. Then if you move onto the 410 you are already used to the dead core and can focus on the security pins better. Dead cores are the worssttt same prob with some modern disconnected cam euros with the staggered bibles churs LL!
