One of VoicePlay's greatest strengths is tapping into the emotion of any song they cover, and no matter how they mix up the material to put their own spin on it they always respect the spirit of the original. Around the same time that this came out Pentatonix also did a cover of this same song, and while they performed it with a lot of skill and style, I thought they entirely missed the mark regarding the intention of the song. While as you've seen, VoicePlay really played to the message of the song- understanding the alienation the song describes, and the yearning for connection. So giving the opening and closing lead to Cesar makes perfect sense; that man could make stones weep with the emotion his voice carries. But they all did amazing; Eli arranged this one, and it's such a strong contribution!

Did Eli ever say why they don't pan to his face at the end, but did all the others?

For the most part, Geoff and Layne have been alternating the arrangements. Eli, the bald tenor, did this one. He's done a few and going forward will be doing more. He did their arrangement of Eleanor Rigby, I think you will like that one too!

The list is just their top tier. There are many more of us on the lower tiers.

Cesar (first singer) is so good at evoking emotions with his special talent. But then, they are all very good at bringing the feeling out in any song they perform.
The patron's names on the patreon list are only the very top tier. There are too many in total to actually list all of them every time.

I Can’t Make You Love Me is another emotional performance. Hauntingly beautiful.

I've liked this song a long time, but absolutely love this version. VoicePlay just nailed it.

VoicePlay always bring the feels. Always. They know exactly how to bring emotion to a song. They are so much more than singers.

Yes, the bass and the background harmonies at the start were awesome. What did you think of Cesar's performance? You know, the guy who was actually on-screen singing the melody and the lyrics?

I love this cover so so much. This song brings the emotions, and Cesar is just, WOW! They all poured their hearts into this one. Ilove the way they use the mirrors as a way of self reflection. So fire. Great reaction.

I think many of us bawled our eyes out the first time we heard VoicePlay's cover of this. They really hit us with the 'feels' here. And they even managed that wall of sound that in the original was all guitar - even to the point that the light show behind VP reminded me of the original video's. I couldn't name my favorite part of this. ALL of it is 'just right'.

No shade thrown on the original, but it never made me tear up. This version does. Also, make sure you watch VP's vids a second time, keeping your eyes on the screen. There's a lot of one-second epic little moments, I'd hate for you to miss them.

I love this cover of Creep. I'm going to be upfront here, though. I did not like Radiohead's version of it. I've been stalked. It was one of the most damaging experiences in my life, both physically and emotionally. There was no safety anywhere, including home. To me, the tone of Radiohead's "Creep" was one of internally justifying being a creep and stalking someone. Listening made me angry. VP's felt more like a study of the isolation, insecurity, & and loneliness involved in feeling you aren't special and will never belong. It made me sad, but also made me think about how the loners among us need more understanding and kindness.

I haven't had the experience that you've had, and my heart goes out to you, but I absolutely agree about the feelings toward the original. It's a fine song in terms of like arrangement and vocals or whatever, but it 100% gives off "Oh poor me, I'm weird (read: literally so creepy) and the girl I have (likely unrequited) feelings for is running away from me (and she probably should). Won't someone feel bad for me?" vibes.
VoicePlay's cover hit me right in the imposter syndrome feelings. I wanted to reach through the screen and hug every one of these guys during this cover.

Wow!!! What a cover. The emotional transitions are incredible. You can feel the despair, frustration and hopelessness with intense musical energy. Absolutely love it. Check out Vocieplay's Viking covers Valhalla Calling or My Mother Told Me.

I first became aware of Radiohead in the abstract, when someone on a web forum commented that "everyone" on a particular music recommendation service (called "AudioScrobbler"; I think it's defunct now) listened to Radiohead and Coldplay. But at the time I was mainly interested in expanding my collection of baroque-era music, so I didn't look them up (because I could tell from their names that they were definitely not writing music in the seventeenth or eighteenth century). Eventually I became aware of this song when VoicePlay covered it, and even then, at first I sort of shrugged and went "Why did they pick *that* to cover?" Eventually, after hearing it a few more times, it started to grow on me, although it would still need to grow on me a lot more to make it into my favorites list.

If you want to hear another RadioHead done as a solo by Geoff, check out High and Dry. Geoff's solos are not acapella, he saves those for VoicePlay but it is remarkable.

Have you listened to Seven Nation Army or Nothing Else Matters covers by Voiceplay?

It would have been great if it was a live performance, but it’s lipcynced to the max.
For a truly live and unprocessed version of Creep, you have to watch Haley Reinhart and Postmodern Jukebox.
