My vet asked me if I sedate her before we come to him. My cat is calm like she is under drugs and just hisses or try to scratch the vet when he give her vaccines.
She's like my cat. My vet said that she is shy, because in front of strangers, she acts all calm and meows like a kitty, but at home, with us, she's like Dark Vador

Same here. She got stung by an Asian Hornet, paw 4 times its normal size, came home for help, go to the vet. Had to wrap her in a towel to put her in the crate without having our skin ripped of our arms. Meooooooow... Sounded like we torturing here the whole drive, then quiet in the waiting room with other animals, quiet in the vet office, didn’t want to leave the crate, had to pour it out. Big eyes, slow moves, checking everywhere without moving, no sound during the whole vet examination and shots. As soon as the vet said « you’re good », went back by herself in the crate. Get her in the car, meow meow again, get her out of the crate, little eating, then straight on the couch, and slipped the whole afternoon. Found the hornet nests the next day, scared the shit out of us, 4m form the window and sized like a basket ball. No sound, only 2 or 3 hornets around. Called someone, pschit, next day all dead
Same here. Oscar hates the crate, fights us when we put him in it and meows while we drive to the vet. When the vet takes him out to weigh him, he just walks back into the crate, all quiet and curls up
It helps when the vet interacts with the cat instead of plonking it down and sticking a needle in them..see the way he waits for the cat to calm down..that's a good vet

There's really no point in getting them comfortable at the vet when it's just a 10min procedure. Quit bashing one of the hardest professions in the world- you really don't know.
Roo I agree, but I don’t think it’s worth it for the cat to be scared shitless every visit to the vet. Get them comfortable the first time and they won’t have to fear it every single visit.
They're uncomfortable and probably somewhat scared, but they are not terrified. And how well the cat is handling their fear is a testament to it's temperament. It's like a 5 year old who is scared to get a shot but just does their best to stay calm until it's over.

This is an AWESOME VET! He is so calm and quick with the exam. He is gentle but firm and in control of the animal. He reminds me of our Vet! Animals always respond this way to him!

All the vets loved my kitty when we took her! She was purring the whole time and was asking for pets. She's very friendly and cooperative. The only thing she didn't like was when they tried to draw blood from her, which is understandable. But when it comes to taking medicine, she does very well. She's a good girl.
Quiet voices, sympathetic handling, no sudden movements = years of experience. She wasn't having fun, but she wasn't terrified either, and will probably not respond badly when she has to have another visit.

I think one of the reasons this cat is so calm, is because the vet is holding it by the neck, where the cats function nerves are. It's what mother cats usually bite to carry around kittens, because that nerve *literally makes the cats stunned* When they are being held from there they literally just stop and fall over.
I wish that was true for all cats! I've been fostering a 4mnth old kitten, and we went to the vet yesterday. She needed to have her ears cleaned due to mites(it is horrible for her so I understand why she got so upset - cleaning solution is poured in & then the ears are wiped out with cotton) and eventually there were THREE people trying to hold her still, and still unsuccessfully 😂 they finally got it done, but not without some scratches and nips. poor baby. I told the vet "you wouldn't believe me, but she's actually the friendliest and sweetest kitty I've ever met when she's at home". she just hates going to the vet.
MIne reacts the same way. Very timid, always looking for a place to hide, but basically quiet, and Dr is always gentle wither so she doesn't too scare or hurt. You have a good baby there. 😁

Refusing to accept any interaction from their owner is the kind of behavior I'd only expect if either the cat was separated from mom too early or introduced to humans too late.

My very lovely and very old cat died last December, and he LOVED the vet. Wouldn't scream or hiss or anything. Rubbed his face on everything he could get, even the vet. He really just didn't like to be stuck in a carrier for longer than necessary lol! He would let strangers pet him too while waiting for us to come home in the evening. He was really affectionate with humans and other cats, and I miss him so much. He died at home, and we buried him next to his little sister who died years ago. He was my big old baby and loved everybody. ❤️
