    You can actually take the screw out of the socket on the led and turn the clips (one piece) and reinstall the set screw on the led. Then your set it will install with no issues

    I've found LED headlights in my 1995 Silverado do not project light very far. They are bright white for sure, but only illuminate a short distance in front of the vehicle. Basically useless at highway speeds. They light up reflective signs very well though.

    • @NavyDad
      @NavyDad  Před 2 lety

      there are some good LEDs and bad ones out there. do your research before you order. you also need to make sure your grounds are very good. weak, damaged or corroded grounds will cause issues with LEDs. your low beams should be an LED equivalent to 35 watts, high is 55 watts in the US. also make sure the low beams are aimed correctly here is a good how too haynes.com/en-us/tips-tutorials/how-adjust-your-headlight-aim-emergency

    What's the purpose/function of the little bulb by the low beam? I have the same headlights installed and thought they were for melting ice and snow off the headlights if the high/low beams were converted to LEDs. Anyway its left me puzzled.

    • @NavyDad
      @NavyDad  Před 24 dny

      that is a good question. the only thing I can think of is City Lights many European cities like London, Paris, Berlin mandated them for driving at night in urban areas using low watt city lights rather than the vehicle's headlights. I think Its still a thing in some places. Thousands of GMT400 trucks were exported. It may be that the manufacture of these lights made them all country complaint... or they just thought it would be cool to torture our fingers getting them in there lol

    these aftermarket led lights only last about 6 months on average. So when they go out you'll end up going back to the original factory lights. So make sure when you do this save the old lights.

    • @NavyDad
      @NavyDad  Před 4 lety

      If you are talking about the Halos yes as I noted in the video I head the same thing which is why I hooked them up to a switch rather than always on, so far so good after 9 about months I don’t turn them on at night since you really can’t see them very well.

    How is the light pattern with these headlights? I purchased the same headlights just clear and the pattern is absolutely terrible. It’s worse than the $40 eBay headlights I had on the truck before I put in the Anzo headlights.

    • @NavyDad
      @NavyDad  Před rokem

      I light pattern sems ok to me, far better than the OEM lights mine are a few years old now they may have changed them. it could be the your LEDS too some bulb models can be "Clocked" within the bulb own housing itself so they can apply light in the right direction toward the reflectors. I think someone posted a while back they dont make the same model I showed in the vid that the part number was updated.

But after I installed them the light coming out was funky, not pointed in the right direction (even with adjustment), and dark spots all over. That and no matter what I tried to do the high beams always ended up pointed at the sky.

      hyper flash has nothing to do with the headlights thats the turn signals and the 4way hazard flashers. But all you need to solve hyper flash is 2 electric flasher relays. like the Novita EP35 Turn signal flasher (the one on the fuse box by the bottom of the steering column) and 4way hazard flasher like the "Keep It Clean" #10853 (keep it clean is the brand name) which is just under the dash left or right of the steering column depending on the year.

      Very soon, should be mid February. its been a winter, had some Covid in the family everyone is well now and for some reason I didn't get it (yup we are all vaxd) and then... I blew the motor in O'l Blue on Christmas Eve..... UHG... Had a long way to go and a short time to get there (pick and pull Fort Worth closed early) They had just posted a 99 Firebird. I picked up the complete rear disk brake setup for the Chevelle ($70 for everything) then hauled a$$ home for family Christmas stuff. Over a 100 miles round trip pushing 85 all the way (he ran so good too). Stopped for gas a few blocks from the house and that was it, he wont start, gas, spark nota the little 4.3L (218K) was done. He did his job he got me home for Christmas. If everything goes well this weekend I'll be doing a vid on What is going under the hood and it "ani't no" LS. However yes before I do the engine swap, I'll do the mirror how too. Hope you keep watching.

    I was told that the LED lights burn cooler than the original ones which makes the outside lens freeze over while driving through ice and snow. I've been thinking of switching over to LED but am now a bit hesitant since I work 3rd shift and wouldn't want that issue. If anyone knows one way or the other I'd love to know...

    • @NavyDad
      @NavyDad  Před 2 lety

      They still generate heat just not like a halogen. I live in the Dallas area so I not much opportunity for long term cold and ice. However most modern cars/trucks have LEDs today like all new F150s as example but they dont seem to have issues. the only thing I could say it try it and see what happens as you can always go back to halogen

    • @NavyDad
      @NavyDad  Před 2 lety

      Had another thought on this. You can buy aftermarket heated mirror inserts on eBay or Amazon. They’re water resistant and stick on. You could remove the headlights the put them on the back or top of the housing (could even do the taillights too) then use a switch like this to control it. it’s a thought anyway www.amazon.com/ThermaSync-Defroster-Heated-Mirror-Control/dp/B075FY4194

      Hi I have not done any engine upgrades yet. That will be later in 2020 as I need to finish the Miata MX5 Turbo build first. I’m keeping the engine swap a secret until I do the work next year. It’s not an LS, Diesel or a Chevy engine maybe a one of kind I hope. As for the 4.3 in your truck a Turbo is the cheapest way to add power to your existing engine if it’s in good condition. The “China” Turbo kits are much better than they used to be and it’s a cheap fun way to add power.

      @NavyDad  Před 3 lety

      if you click on the Google doc in the description and scroll down to the pic of the Relay you can use this as a guide. if you just want the light to come on all the time when the truck is on. Use a 4 pin 30/40amp Bosch style relay: Pin30 goes to 12V battery with an inline 10amp fuse. Pin85 is ground. Pin86 is the trigger to activate the relay connect it to wire on the main fuse block that is active when the ignition is on. This is only a 12V signal. Pin87 connects directly to the 12v lead on the Halos. If you want to add a switch, put the switch between the trigger Relay wire. Of you can take the relay out and connect the switch directly to the battery with a 10amp fuse. doing it this way will allow the halos to be turned on at any time, like at a car show
