Man, this brings back memories. Not of any specific game but the circumstances surrounding these games. I have a different take that may seem off-topic but is still related to the video games. The tradition the guys and I had was simple. We attended MANY games back in the early '90s to 2000s. How the video games tied in, we would attend a game at The Garden, Meadowlands, Uniondale, Philly, or Hartford, wherever we could drive to, in time Boston, Buffalo, Montreal, Landover, and Quebec City made the cut as well. We would exit the aforementioned venue after the game. After a local contest, our tradition was to head to the local Houlihan's, drive back to our home base in West New York, grab a couple of cases of beer and a bottle of Stoli's, get lumped up like Derek "Turk" Sanderson after a Worcester bikini contest, and play any of the EA NHL series on our buddies PlayStation, usually into the late AM hours the following day. Back on topic, Blades of Steel was the first realistic SIMULATION albeit without the NHL or NHLPA license. I fondly recall the EA series and identify more by their soundtracks so the verdict for me would be EA NHL '07. In these games, I would be remiss to mention that I pulled the trigger on the Gretzky trade before Neil Smith without trading Chicken Parm or Norstrom. I understand we acquired The Great One as a free agent after Keenan scolded Wayne like he was Roman Vopat in front of the entire Blues team after that Yzerman goal in the playoffs but that deal with LA that brought Churla, McSorley, and Kurri in for Chicken Parm, Norstrom, Laperriere, and Lafayette was the Gretzky Deal without Gretzky, I made the better deal now pass me a brew LOL! One of the many dubious deals in our history, as previously mentioned, the Amonte deal that Keenan forced, regardless of outcome was also absurd. Neil, if you are watching and reading this comment, I had the honor to meet you on more than one occasion and you were always friendly, classy, and accommodating, you were and still are class, as for that aforementioned coach, well, he kept himself out of The Hall of Fame as Babcock will eventually find out, now, boys let's see your phones! I watched your past video with Neil and like I said, if he comes across that comment, I have nothing but respect and admiration for the only GM to ever make my life better by winning that Cup. We love you, Neil.
NHL games I feel like really fell off after psx (original Playstation) I remember really enjoying nhl 94, 96, 2000 and faceoff 99 and 2000 After that every time I tried a game it the controls felt... clunky? It also felt like a lot of the new features felt poorly implemented. I've actually just given up on the hockey games. Which is a bummer because I liked nhl games better than nba and nfl games, and while NFL games seem like they stuck with what works, the last couple of NBA games I played were also a bit iffy, though not nearly as much as the nhl ones. Though to be fair the wrestling games are probably the ones that fell off the hardest.
Everyone knows the best game is from Super Nintendo nhl 94 😂😂😂😂 but I ain’t gonna lie nhl 2k on the 360 and ps3 was the most slept on that was a real deal hockey simulation it made u feel like u had to move and think like a nhl player I wish ea took notes just didn’t get the attention it deserved
Nhl 94 is the GOAT

My personal favorites were nhl 05, nhl 3 on 3 arcade, and nhl 10
I had NHL Faceoff 2001 on the PS. Was easily my favorite hockey game for a long time, outside of NHLPA93 (Sega) & NHL Hitz 2000 (original Xbox)
The hockey games I also like are: NHL 14, NHL 06, and the modern games(just because of their game modes).
I think NHL was the last great one. The just seem to update rosters and do little else

So true. The newer the game, the worse it felt

Maybe the games fell off because of poor representation of the sport...like this garbage video
Thanks for watching
