- Even the biggest classic car enthusiast would be forgiven for not knowing the Marcos Mantara, but this video is all about proving why you should know it!
Ultra rare, striking styling, excellent handling, and who can forget that V8 rumble - I take this Marcos Mantara out on the road after a brief history and introduction into the forgotten British Sports Car.
In a first for CZcams, I will be living with the ultra-rare Mantara, everything from trips to the local shops, all the way through to full-blown adventures. Subscribe to the Fuel Up Classic CZcams Channel to find out what living with a hand-built British sports car is really like. There’s plenty more classic car videos on the way too!

I like to think I played my small part in keeping the business going by selling the original business with all the moulds, build files etc. for every car to a new owner who values the brand as much as Rory McMath did, who'd been involved with Marcos as an engineer for 55 years. Long may it continue.
marcos is my favourite car of all time
I have had 9 Marcoses and I must have driven another 15. My fave cars. I had a Mantara in Balmoral green. I loved it! Such fluid handling. I have owned or driven most models, but if I get another, it will be a Mantara.
There's nothing quite like them! Thank you for watching and sharing your Marcos ownership story.
Thanks Mate, I wish I could have as much fun. Nice work to see a human having so much fun. GO MATE GO & GO HARD
Love my Mantara, much better drive and far easier to own than the Mantula i used to have. Looking forward to seeing more.
Wonderful cars - and fantastic value when originally sold in terms of fun per £ spent. I got mine new in 1996 - going strong still at only 35,000 (mostly dry) miles. It will be interesting to see direct comparison with TVR - the latter had a reputation for being more twitchy and inclined to oversteer...
Thank you for watching. It's great to hear from long term owners and hear their experiences. I will put a comparison video together when the weather improves.
I worked there at Westbury Trading estate for a number of years. Most of us are still in contact, and we would all probably agree that it was the best time/job of our lives. Amazing company, Jem was a huge character, as was Chris, we were all friends.
And I've been in that actual car.
That's incredible! I can imagine it was a fantastic place to work.
Really? To my knowledge it's the only one thatv was made in this colour? I have tracked down the original owner who kindly shared some great pictures and stories of it from back in the day. He used it daily for a number of years, I believe.
@@fuelupclassic Yes I only remember one in that colour, and it was that one, pre delivery/collection. And funny enough, I remember the clutch being particularly stiff in that car, amazing that that memory has come back to me. It was a fantastic place to work, we were all great friends p.s. different CZcams account but same person 🤣
@@keithyp8427 Incredible! Thank you for sharing your memories of the car.... The clutch pedal is still quite stiff! haha
I saw my first Marcos in 1991 at an Oldtimer show in Austria. I got the chance to sit in it, to check if i have enough room for my feet because i'm 197 cm tall. It fits perfect. So i went in 1992 from Austria to London and bought my 3 Litre Volvo. I did a nut and bolt restoration and now, 30 years later it's always a pleasure to enjoy it. I love it !!!❤
That’s great to hear. I hope you continue to enjoy it for many more years and miles. There’s nothing quite like a Marcos!

Brilliant. Thanks. I have a Mantula and I often have an Audi up my chuff as well.
The "cos" in Marcos was the brother of the "Cos" in Cosworth !
I love the marcos
I really enjoyed this.

well done, i have an lm400, they are good cars
I first thought it was a Mantula, so I have learnt something thank you, and amazing the condition for 100K miles good buying

Thank you! Great to hear you enjoyed the video and subscribed. The next video will be posted later tonight
I'm 165! Great vid. I haven't seen these on youtube before. Looking forward to more content.
Nice review, thank you!
My -95 Mantara has made only 110km from new and yours 100000 miles. And both look like a million bucks :)
Thank you. Hope you are enjoying your Mantara
Excellent 👏👏💎
Thank you for watching.
Hi, I have #2 which I'm rebuilding with a new chassis, before I started, she done around 118,000 miles, I've had her 13 years and she has spent many of those raising money with the Sporting Bears 🐻
Fantastic to see another one out there that covered some miles! Hope the rebuild is going well.
Thanks 👍🏻😊
The front look, with its double horizontal front lights reminds me a little of the SOVAM 1100 from the 60s. But I recognize that the comparison stops there. A french fan 😉
Ohh yes I see what you mean! They do look rather similar at the front. Thank you for watching.
Never heard of these. Interesting styling.
The tail reminds me of the new Supra.
I bet it doesn’t weigh much.
Thanks for this.👌
You’re right the new Supra certainly shares some similar design elements. Glad you enjoyed it.
weight 1020kg
I am old enough to know about Marcos sport cars Don Adams in Get Smart used one we all know about his Sunbeam Tiger but he also used a Marcos not the model reviewed it is a very good looking car and the dash board l love timber dash boards you can never have to much timber in a car
These cars are not very known because owners are from older generations and reviewers rarely test them.
Young men never even heard about it, as racing simulators don't have these cars.
It's too bad, I wish this brand become as popular at it deserves, at least as TVR.
I hope to change that and get more Marcos content out there for people to enjoy. At 32, i'm firmly in the 'younger' category of Marcos enthusiasts but I really enjoy the car and plan to do a lot more with it in the near future. Thank you for watching. Matt.
Nice video, i am at present restoring a 69 year Marcos with a Chevy 6.2 V8 and 6 speed box, previous was a 5.0V8, some videos on my youtube channel
I will check them out. Hope the restoration is going well.
Iconic jem
I had one in 2005. Fell on hard times in 2010 & had to sell it 😢.It went to Austria & was converted to left hand drive. Still miss it & if I am ever fortunate to have the chance to have another one I’ll sell a kidney if I have to.
Was this one yours ? In the clip they say it came 2010 from UK to Austria. Best wishes from Austria 🇵🇪..czcams.com/video/J6XjHb8xJKA/video.htmlsi=rueesYJ3MUB-M4hL
Before I had children back in the late 1970's I had a Marcos V6 (Ford Essex) for a couple of years which replaced an earlier Lotus Elan.
The Marcos was much better, and certainly didn't suffer, "Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious" - if you know what I mean!
At the time of purchase, it was a toss up between it & a V6 TVR. Although most of my friends disagreed with my choice then (a bit of a hairdresser's car, a show pony, - Can you believe that!)I still think the original Marcos shape was better than anything Lotus & TVR offered at the time and drove rather well too!
PS. Well what did my friends know, they were still trundling around in archaic TR6's, & MG B V8s...
Wonderful! It's always great to hear from current and previous Marcos owners - It sounds like you made the right choice back then and had plenty of fun with it.
Anything he said in this video is exactly true for a Marcos.
My school teacher had one, and we all thought he was the coolest 😎
A very cool teacher indeed! 😎
are these the guys that made the Mini Marcos.
That’s correct!
Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-(
In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO )
it won't happen as they plan
it's just will be very expensive until people revolt against it.
Just love these cras tried to buy one but hey THEY ARE NOW EXPENSIVE IF YOU CAN FIND ONE THAT IS ???? So settled for a T.V.R. very very similar if not even the same sort of thing ?? Marcos being even more scarce !!
Very rare and they have everything you can't get even from Ferrari or Porsche today - a natural V8 with manual.
