      I used to say the same thing as you. Then I got into micro-soldering as a hobby thanks to these videos. Started by saving some money from work and ended up getting one of those Aoyue 3 in 1 stations (968a+), some flux, different tips, wick, jumper wires, etc. I started buying electronics kits (digital clocks, VU meters, Arduino boards) and got better over time. Then one of my coworkers asked me if I knew anybody who could fix her son's 2013 MacBook Pro since the Apple store wanted $1k for repairs.
      I told her I wouldn't mind checking it out, and at the very least I could tell her if the repairs would actually amount to that. I managed to figure out that it was the Backlight fuse (thanks, Louis, all these hours of watching your videos helped immensely!), so I got a quick replacement for it and managed to get the MBP working again. It was an extremely satisfying feeling! Making a quick profit off of it didn't hurt either. And now I'm getting all sorts of computers to keep me busy in the weekends (I even managed to fix two Nintendo Switches that had bad charge ports and a PS4 that had a bad HDMI chip!).
      If it keeps going this way, I may actually consider quitting my job and starting my own repair business, especially since there's no place around here that can do micro-soldering to my knowledge.

      @@RGInquisitor Thumbs up! Solving problems is satisfying. $$$ is also nice! I occasionally like watching people do their craft, with narration of their thought process. Similar to Behind the Scenes extra features, or having artists explain their inspirations and process. I may not understand most of what's going on, but I still like it.

      @@Trondtravle The only broken electronics I had at the time were my LG V10 with a burnt CPU (awesome engineering, LG!) and a 50" TV with a blown PSU. I used the TV to learn how to solder and de-solder, and then the V10 to remove and replace smaller components.
      However, the best experience came from buying DIY kits off Amazon. They vary in complexity, so you can look for easier kits of electronics to assemble, and then work from there. They're not too expensive, and some of them are actually useful when you assemble them (digital clocks, FM radios, calculators). Once you've obtained enough experience with them, you can consider buying broken electronics from eBay or from friends and family and then start working on your troubleshooting.

    Mikeselectricstuff has a really sweet trick for determining if something is an input or output if you dont have a wiring diagram. He goes through it on his ipod nano reverse engineering series. Yoou break the trace and put a resistor in the line and then pull either side to ground with another resistor. If that sides voltage drops, its the draw side. If both sides voltage drops, its the supply side. Pretty neat trick if you dont have a diagram to follow. He explains it better on his video.

    You've probably answered this, but I've always wondered why laptops are not designed to divert liquid spills so they never touch the motherboard? Or why not do a 4-second spray of some clear lacquer over the board? It would seem to be an actually valid selling point, a liquid-resistant laptop. Please advise.

      @@matthewfiedler4739 Indeed, I use OBS for that, I am curious how he quick swap between the cameras, as his desk setup have a keyboard right in front of him it is probably easy to do with hotkeys for each source, it is a bit harder here with the way my desk is setup.

    Also ! Could you try fixing other laptops as well cause (exept Dell now and then *Not their Alienware* does do good repairs) but sometimes other manufacturers are equally crap ! Like really crap ! From Lenovo to everyone else :/

    What is The Most Reliable Apple Component?
    Guess
    The Fuse The F*ng Fuse Never Blows

    • @benjaminmiddaugh2729
      @benjaminmiddaugh2729 Před 5 lety +1

      A fuse that never blows is only reliable if the need for it to blow never arises. A reliable fuse will blow when the situation warrants. Apple fuses never blow when they should, which makes them reliably unreliable.
