Weddings in the States are different in that the bride’s family typically pays for the wedding, and the groom’s family has other responsibilities. It’s a last send off for a beloved daughter. Nowadays, if the couple already have careers, they prefer to pay for their wedding themselves. The wedding party is as simple or elaborate as their or their parents’ finances allow. Very seldom do they ask for money but they do have a list of things in all price categories that they need to start married life together, allowing their guests to ‘give’ as they are able. Sometimes they prefer guests to make a donation to a charity in their name. In Israel, the word goes out how much each guest is expected to pay to attend the wedding. Some families go into debt to attend a wedding! When we were starting out as a family in Israel, sometimes we could only afford for one of us to attend an event. Sometimes we could not afford to go at all and would send a gift later that we could afford. Someone once told us that we were expected to pay anyway if we were sent an invitation and did not attend. A gift was not enough! As an American, I thought how hard that sounded. We’ve been to lawn weddings, beach weddings, boat weddings, congregational and wedding-hall affairs. The sweetest ones were always the most creative, simple or elaborate, and guests blessed the couple as they could afford. Not the Israeli way, but a blended way. Today, we do what is expected. We live here, adjust, and embrace the differences. Happy wedding!

I live in the US and have never seen kitchenware given at a wedding. It is customary to give a card with enough money to cover the cost per per person for the venue plus more. Kitchenware is given at the Bridal Shower if any.
I gotta pause right there about 25:40 and tell you two, first off congratulations, but I paused it here when Hananya, you said it's because of the army that gave you the courage or something like that. Hananya, I use this analogy all through my life (65 now). When I was in my basic training up there just south of Jenin... I compare all the tough things both emotional and physical and say, 'It can not be as tough for me as basic training.' Gave me the courage and the will to do whatever it was that was hard.
Anyway I love you both and wish you an eternity of happiness, even with many children... Funny how I was first subscribed to India from when you were dancing with your friends on the balcony. And you Hananya about the same time or so. Then your getting married. God bless you both and Bibi also.

Congratulations on your first Isreality podcast. Thank you for sharing your proposal. There was a few times I was thinking uh-oh your digging yourself a hole Hananya. lol. I planned on proposing on a beach with a message in a bottle. I bought a colorful bottle with an old fashion design and wrote on a scroll a few sentences, rolled it up, tied a red ribbon around and put it in the bottle. But the trip to the beach didn't work out but we were walking through a nature path so I handed over the bottle there. As she was reading it I moved behind her and took the ring out and knelt. .........just a little critic - share the talking time back and forth ;). I think you are a natural talker Hananya , just keep in mind to try to get the conversation 50/50 ' ish. ;) God bless ya's. I visited South India and Coorg I think is a good location for honeymoon or even Andaman and Nicobar Islands or if you want something cultural and explore, Rajasthan and Gujarat might be good choices but you are always welcome in Mumbai, from where I'm. North East India is not a well travelled pathway but it is very beautiful, despite the lack of facilities. If you want to have a feel of tribal culture, you can go there but I'm assuming that you'll have lots of communication issues so it's on you, whatever you choose

If you think that Christianity was spread by peace in Goa, think again. Those who convert to Christianity in a tribe becomes so violent that others have to convert too. That's how many in the North East converted. Yes, you can visit North East India anytime you want.
