Axe carving a spoon

Please don't try this at home unless you know how to use an axe safely.
Here I'm carving a slightly curved cleft piece of wood into an eating spoon blank ready for knife work. Most of the crank is already present in the natural curve of the wood.
If your learning axe work like this then the key point to notice is that I mostly carve surfaces. Start with small accurate strikes to establish the cut then strike the established surface to continue the cut.

Brilliant video - can't wait to get my axe to try this. Currently doing most of this work with meat cleaver and a Mora knife 😂😂
