Canadian here. I found dandelion & burdock soda ONCE in my local grocery store and, once it sold out, they never carried it again - a shame, because it instantly became my favourite fizzy drink. Thank you for sharing this recipe; I'm definitely going to have to try it!
Herbalist here. Just remember that Burdock can have hypoglycaemia actions, so you must be careful if you're on diabetic medications.
And with Dandelion root, do not use it in cases of obstructed gallbladder or bile ducts.
If you don't have these, then this is an awesome one to make. Looks delish
What? But burdock is full of starch
Not an expert, but I have a family member with problematic Type 1 diabetes. The issue might be that the starch causes a sugar spike, causing too much insulin to be produced/injected, potentially leading later to a sugar crash and if that's not corrected in time, then a hypo?
It may just need the individual to adjust their monitoring and insulin input accordingly - they will have experience in what their body needs and doesn't when it comes to carbs! Hope this helps.
I imagine a diabetic would be cautious anyway with something containing honey.
@@yourmum69_420 not so full ... but it has inulin ... part of its goodness ;-)))
If you allow the D&B to cool to just a Luke warm then all the amazing benefits of the Honey will be preserved and you’ll then have yourself an even more healthy beneficial drink. Hot temperatures denature the amino acids etc if the honey. Honey is an incredible product!
Thank you so much for this video. I’ll be hopping about searching the undergrowth. Good point to indicate the best places to find Burdock too. Can you tell us. Thanks
I can just imagine myself going round your kitchen stoned checking out all the cool ingredients.
I dunno if that’s creepy. 😂 Wowww how’d you make this? Cool! And this one?
I’d be happy as a dog with two tails.
What a nice way you made this video. I really enjoyed its artistic side too.
Gaddam!
When you dig up the burdock root use a post hole spade, push it into the ground to make a small square and leverage it until you hear a pop, the plant should then come out easily without having to dig it out and making such a mess around it. Not a forager am a horse owner where this plant is an absolute menace, seeds can last years without germinating and the burrs are a total pain in the behind giving the horses a new hairdo 🙈 I’ve dug up acres of them and this is bar far the best method I’ve found without wrecking the fields
Thanks for this tidbit of knowledge! I live in an apartment, and have to rely on others' properties for my foraging. I always hesitate to ask about burdock, due to the amount of digging involved to get the root. Maybe this will give me a little edge in the game. :)
Make it using sugar adding a little ginger bug and it'll be fizzy.
Defo will I am a Vegan we don't do bees valuable nutrients luv n light x
Super wholesome video, I can't wait to try this out - nice work guys!
So simple ❤
😊
Great vid, I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially when he was talking about the plants, never heard of the term 'biennial' plant. Great no fancy stuff trying to make it more enjoyable or humorous, just smiles all round and a genuine avid interest. Oh, liked the referencing about the saint who woke up one early morning to cure a hangover and he asked the lord to provide a drink, and the lord did provide and Latin names and annotation brilliant! I wish I could do vids like that👍
Thank you for these videos , I appreciate them ❤️
You two are amazing 👏
Lovely
Thanks love it !
Definitely making this!
Another great video! Just a note though, your audio is only coming out of the left channel, I had to go to windows accessibility options and force mono, then up the volume a ton to watch the video.
We are having audio wars lately!
Very cool thank you!
Beautiful land!
We had Dandelion & Burdock long long before cola.
It’s known just “Dandelion & Burdock”
Great recipe 👍🏻🍺🍺🍺
Cheers Michael!
Thank you!!! Love you guys so much ❤
✌️😁💚
For years and years I've been thinking about making my own D&B and today I've just got a packet of burdock seeds so I can grow my own. I am very heartened to see just how easy it is to make and to learn more about the plants and their benefits, great video! :D
It has taken over my garden with those huge leaves. I love it!
God lord don’t plant them find any horse owner they will probably pay you to take them away
God Bless you and your family. I'm enjoying learning from your videos as I begin this new journey of discovering the precious resources provided to us in our beautiful earth.
We're pleased to be a part of your journey 🙂

😁
Amazing i know what we are going to be doing this weekend !!!
Enjoy!
Yeeeeeeessssss! Thank you sooooo much for this… been waiting patiently! Lol.xx❤️❤️😁
✌️😁
Watching this again for a refresher. Since we haven't completely frozen over yet here (Central Ohio, USA) & the ground is quite mushy, I plan to harvest some roots tomorrow & hope to get enough for eating/drying & a batch or 3 of cola.
Look into burdock chips they are also nice 🙂
Awesome video
Sweetness 🌻🌱. Wow so much information. This video is gold. Thank you!
Thanks for watching 😁
wow so glad i came across ur videos enjoyed ur presentation n informative instructions on how to use the plants u harvest 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you so much for this video! Fantastic! Will be making this soon and I subscribed to your channel! Excited to see more content!
Thank you for joining us 😁
Loved it. Will try this. Might add cherries 🍒
Lol. That would last maybe 3 days at my house.
I love burdock tea w/honey. Never tried it w/dandelion.
Thanks for a wonderful video. Y’all are precious!!
Wow, when I think of the number of dandelion that I have thrown away! Oh man what am I like! Thank you so much for a subject that’s very close to my heart. God bless. Keep the videos coming.🙂🙏👍
😁
Just discovered your channel thanks for being awesome!
WONDERFUL, pretty too!
😁
That Rabbit you showed has myxomatosis.
You two are supper cool I love how simple your instructions where it's almost impossible to mess up. Thanks for the knolage you just got a new subscriber from hawaii🙂❣️❣️
A beautiful country ♥️
Thank you for this idea & the detailed instructions for the recipe. I ingest dandelion and burdock root several other ways, but never tried this. Will have to give it a go. I'll bet if I made a big batch or several small batches & froze it, it would keep all winter (if I don't drink it all first). 😉
😁
You two are so sweet together 🩵
Great and informative video. Enjoyed every second of it and will be heading out to make our own soon. Much appreciated.😁😁😁
✌️😁
i have a polly tunnel now this i am going to have a go thanks.
Awesome 😁
Does burdock grow in OK? Are you all in England? I ask because my fathers family is from there, I love your accents and your info is great! I will be looking for burdock, hope it grows here, I’ve plenty of dandelions in my yard💕🙏
What a lovely tutor! And it looks like a lovely libation. I have a sodastream, so adding carbonation would be easy! (I've been carbonation kombucha recently, tasty option!) I'd likely go with less honey, and perhaps freeze some ... also think of mead ....
I recently saw refrence to those burdock boxes, and a gal who divided a potato grow box (2×2') into quarters, putting 2 seeds in each section! I'm thinking of a 5 gallon bucket and dumping out for harvest!
Wow glad you mentioned that! We were going to build the long box with an open side 😄
I really enjoyed watching this video 🌼🍃
Blessings and sunshine to you all ❤☀️
I will definitely be out and about in Nature looking for ingredients 🙂
Enjoy the fresh autumn air 😁
Happy Days 🥂
Cheers!
👍🏻
Fabulous! New fan here ☺😋
🙂
Your smoke alarm needs a new battery. Awesome video! need to look out for burdock now!
It's changed now 🤣
I love dandelion and burdock 😁 need to try this one🙃🙃
Easy one to cook up!
@@homeiswhereourheartis indeed mate 😊 hardest part would be digging up tap roots 🙃🙃
@@wildshadowmatic1571 truth! 🤣
@@homeiswhereourheartis the amount of times I snapped the roots trying and just thought I will give it a big tug 😂 who in their right mind digs a ft or 2 for some roots?😋😂😂 oh wait I would 🙃🙃😂😂
I love to dig up dandelion roots in the autumn for dandelion coffee. But tap roots I only bother with on rare occasion 😁
I say rare occasion Im always doing it 😅
Hi guys, I'm building up quite a library of your videos, love them and love watching yourselves and your family 👪 foraging then preparing mother nature's delights..
Would love to see your larder ,full of all of your wonderful preserves..
1 question please 🙏
How long would a batch of Fireweed honey store for ?
I'm on my last jar of dandelion honey 🍯, made 12 jars ,gave some to friends an d family 👪 ❤️
❤❤❤
ended up at 2 of your vids today completely randomly, was on a yew war bow vibe earlier so wanted to learn about the yew tree, then later today was looking up what dandelion and burdock pop actually was cos someone said the sticky buds plant that kids stick on each other is burdock, like the pop
I absoulutely loved every little bit of this video; the recipe itself, the timelapse of Dane working with the medicinal qualities on screen , the energy when you're home together and the development of Dane's narration skills. Perfection I'd say. 💜 The only thing i want to warn you about is the honey. If you add it while the mixture is still hot it will turn into a kinda harmful glue like substance so please be aware next time and let stuff cool first if you can. Have a lovely week , love you all. ☮ ✌.
Glad you liked the video Patrik! It's great to get your views & hear what you think as we evolve! ✌️😁
@@homeiswhereourheartis My pleasure, really. You are the first few people I connected with through the internet. Lots of things on social media and youtube just reek of superficiality and fakeness. But you've warmed my heart ❤the first video i've seen and you just keep on delivering and improving. Wonderful job!
@@patrikosvath7590 thank you Patrik!
It means alot to us to have you here 😁
👍👍👍
❤
You have a beautiful array of honeys and herbs on the counter innthe background. I believe i saw red nettle something. Can you do a vid on it all , but pls let me see your red nettle plant...have something out here called dead nettle, wondering if similar and uses
💚💚💚💚
✌️💚
I LOVE your videos! Thank you ever so much for all the wonderful info! As a small note, the waving of the camera is very distracting and makes me feel seasick--lol. Love everything else ❤
We have been told that before we better stop the swooping camera stuff 🤣
My favorite childhood drink. I hated cola though.
This isn’t cola but you need to interest people.
I have SOOOOOO many burdocks in my 3 acre yard!! When the turkeys forage, they end up with them sticking all over their feathers.
That's fantastic guys and whom is the music in the background please?❤
Wet the leaves and put on sunburns will soothe and repair a burn
I heard it was traditionally sweetened with pear juice?
Sea moss only has 92 minerals but burdock has all 102 that we need❤❤
Great recipe , could you add citric acid to make it fizzy ?
Thank you
Love October because of all the beautiful colours in the countryside and Halloween 🎃
🐝🌈❤️
Yes I believe you could! 😁💚
Add yeast and go from cola to beer, it lasts longer!.
Can you actually eat the roots as you would vegetables?
Guys I hear your fire alarm chirping in the video. That means the battery needs changed.
It's a pain! It's painted over on the ceiling we're going have to actually break it off 🤣 we've not long lived at this address
@@homeiswhereourheartis sorry for freaking you guys out. Just want to make sure everyone is safe.
Well time to get experimenting if it's just a case of boiling roots and yeeting things in, well if Stevia works... I can grow literally everything and just boil up some D&B, as for carbonation, get CO2 canisters and a pressure rated bottle then load up a nozzle, seal the bottle with the nozzle on top then blast it to no end with CO2, and wait till equilibrium lest you have a fizzy sticky fountain.
How long can the roots be stored after digging
with what did you film 10:00?
Also, I've heard it's possible to mistake the belladonna for burdock, which could make it quite dangerous to harvest as a novice? Is there a way to identify the difference in the roots?
Cheers
If it's got leaves that are two square feet in area, it's burdock. Late summer on you will also see the older plants with the "burrs" that give it its name. Spiky balls that stick in dogs' paws.
How can you tell the difference between burdock and cuckoburrows!?
5:32
Check your fire alarm ..can hear it bleeping looool
Beep 🤣
Could it be fermented to make a light beer?
Yes 👍
Must get the microphone closer 8m on a phone full volume and just hear you
We had to buy a new one. Our newer videos are better audio quality 🙂
I love D&B but a bit confused why you’re referring to it as cola? It’s not got Kola nut extract in it? Is it for your US viewers who might not be familiar with traditional D&B from England? If so then I’d have thought it’s more like their Root beer or Dr Peppers….
We just called it cola because its what dandelion & burdock has become over time 😁
My first attempt at this this evening. The root wasn't quite as nice as yours and nor did I have it quite as clear when it went into the pan.... oops. Hope I survive.
Unless it contains in one form or another "cola" nuts its not a cola, plus its much nicer than any cola.
Why do some people dehydrate the burdock? 👍
what did you add to it at the end?
Fizzy water 🙂
Is it meant to be extremely bitter?
No it's sweet 🙂
Cola?
+ Elderberry syrup 🙏
Berries & cherries
Monkfruit to sweeten
Or honey +rlemon 🍋
I love honey & lemon too!
Can you eat those herbs raw
Yes 🙂
Everytime I see burdock, I think of elephant ears.
My only tip is increase your audio a bit more as its low. :)
Fingers crossed our new microphone will fix it 😁
@@homeiswhereourheartis Good luck mate, we have made some of our own wild food videos on my channel amongst other research and decodings, plan for a famine and colder times / a reset event, survival mode is needed now.
Sorry but no plant has Vit B12. Vit B12 can only be sourced from meat. However, vegetarians can take fortified yeast but B12 does not occur naturally in yeast. That being said...burdock has, folate which is the natural form of vitamin B9. It's called folic acid in its synthetic form. Folate is essential in making new cells, DNA, and other genetic material. I may make this but I'll sweeten it with molasses.
Your smoke detector needs a new battery
thats a lot of honey for such a small amount of liquid.
It's better than Cola
