Burdock: The All-Purpose Alterative

  • Sweet and grounding, Burdock is an Earthy plant with its wide leaves, deep taproots, and ability to both nourish weakness and cleanse excesses from the body. Just as it loves to grow near waste grounds, Burdock clears metabolic waste products and toxins from the fluids in your body to keep your skin glowing and healthy.
Since the health of the skin is merely a reflection of the health of your liver, blood, lymph, and digestion, focusing on topical solutions alone won’t get you very far. By working on each of these organs on a deep level, you can find long-term relief for chronic skin conditions through Burdock.
In today’s plant profile, you’ll discover:
-Why I call Burdock the “all-purpose alterative” and how it’s so versatile
-Burdock’s unique blend of sweet, mineral salt, and slightly bitter tastes which leads to its versatile medicine influence
-The relationship between oily and expansive Burdock and the gas planet Jupiter
-How you can use Burdock to improve your skin, whether it’s overly dry or oily
-Ways Burdock can help you deal with your worries about the unknown
-Different ways you can prepare Burdock at home, from tea to soup

From a Shamanic perspective, telepathically/energetically connecting with Burdock is delightful. She has a, “Marry Poppins,” type of energy. She goes to the root cause. She asks us to reevaluate our thinking patterns on subjects that cause the ideologies of permanence.

wonderful thank you for your generosity and love of burdock. I grew a HUGE plant last year, from fascination as to how to grow it... i now have a million burdocks in my garden and getting ready to harvest them ... I love the root ... very grounding and earthy, great when julienned with carrots and a little shoe splashed on it ... soooo delicious. I have also made miso pickle with julienned burdock. I have found it strengthening generally and can help detox if needed. I once gave a broth containing burdock root (freshly harvested) to a juicer friend ... he had a serious detox! Good to go slow with it if you havent had it before and you havent 'cleaned out' for a while. I dont know how i signed up for you but im glad i did! Many tks

Hello from Oz, I love your natural passion and great knowledge when discussing herbs. Liquid Burdock has been a herb I purchased and used in my clinic practice for decades, I’m a retired Nat & herbalist, I am now, in my retirement, living in a climate where I can grow many herbs I couldn’t grow in my previous tropical climate and Burdock is one I’ve just started growing from seed, I so love watching it grow and thrive along with yarrow, comfrey, calendula and others I had been unable to grow, it is an absolute delight. Thank you for all your wonderful information and great passion 💚🙏🏽🇦🇺

Whoa. This is brilliant! I may overwhelm with this reply but……..I have been seeking info on healthy digestion for preventive measures (my father and his brother both died from pancreatic cancer) and after many years searching, I landed gratefully amongst the ancient health science of ayurveda. It is very clear that a dry airy Vata dominat dosha such as mine (and likely my father) requires bitter and sweet AND healthy bile and inulin production. I am continually learning how to achieve this thru the proper foods/spices along with lifestyle habits. Now I can try adding burdock root tea to further support healthy digestion - aka healthy organs. A huge thank you for your passion to share your knowledge in an incredibly clear delivery. 🙌

I actually had a greater burdock volunteer in our greenhouse this spring here in North Idaho. It’s huge now and flowers are emerging. After I collect the seeds it will need to go. Unfortunately probably won’t be able to get the roots because it grew from under the side it our raised bed. We have a common burdock in our front yard we will be harvesting.

I was taking burdock and it cleared my acne and dry skin and was amazing, and then i presented with my first ever psoriasis "flare"-- small but obvious psoriasis patches on my inner elbows, armpits, bellybutton, as well as toenail presentation. After i stopped burdock, my symptoms faded away. While I believe there were other things that likely contributed to the development of psoriasis, like a case of strep 3 months earlier (treated at home with garlic) and living in mold, i can't help but wonder why the Burdock seemingly brought it out, since it is supposed to be a good herb for psoriasis. I've contemplated the hierarchy of healing, perhaps Burdock was bringing out to the surface what needed to be brought out. However, it definitely felt counterintuitive to continue or restart Burdock when it seemed to cause that reaction, and I've been nervous to touch it ever since.
