    Coastlines of Hongkong have kept changing since 1850's because of reclamation. The section between Kowloon and Hunghom Stations on the blue line (KCRC British Section) followed the coastline of the 1910's. If a map of that era is used, it would be easier to understand why the track alignment was designed.

    Arguably the best and most efficient metro in the world. It works so effortlessly because the density of Hong-Kong allows for a single station to offer easy access for many riders being that the developed areas do not take up a lot of space having no spawl.

      The East Rail Line wasn't a subway until recently, as it had road crossings before and didn't routinely run. It's not even the first line in MTR metro.

    If you want a broader definition of "railway" you can also extend the time to include tram on Hong Kong Island and peak tram which opened in 1904 and 1888 respectively.

    • @davidng2336
      @davidng2336 Před 2 lety +3

      The trams are operated by RATP Dev Asia, while the peak tram is operated by Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels. IDK why a hotel would run a transit system, to be honest.

    The video is amazing. Good Job!
    Btw. There are somewhere else can be fixed that would be more perfect to the video as following.
    1. KCR British Section before rename to East Rail, the Railway line represented in the black and white stripes line.
    2. KCR: East Rail used #0089d0 ; West Rail used #c93a95 ; Ma On Shan Rail used #a44c0e ; Light Rail used #f79239
    3. The KCR Circle Station Symbols is different to the MTR symbol. Those were be used in the same colour as the line instead of using the black stroke like MTR, and also the symbol size was bigger than the MTR version.

    According to historical documents, the KCR British Section didn't really stop services like the Chinese Section in 1938. Instead, the railway still operates between Kowloon and Lo Wu, which had beed used as the temporary terminus again. (in 1937-1941, mainland China was under the war, but Hong Kong was not being invaded yet as it was a British colony). Suspension of the train services within Hong Kong should have happened in around 1941, when the Pacific War begins.
    The KCR timetables published in 1930s could show how the train services changed under such circumstances. (1) In 1935 - 1938, 6 pairs of train were running between Kowloon and Canton, while another 8 pairs were from Kowloon to Shumchun. (2) From May 1938, the train for Kowloon to Canton had been reduced from 6 pairs to 1 pair. (3) Since January 1939, all trains for Canton and Shumchun had been stopped, the northern terminus had been changed to Lo Wu until the suspension in 1941.
